Introduction:
The paper is focused in the discussion of a reputed technology company named as
Microsoft. The mentioned company has strong reputation of conducting sustainable business
in the IT and Technology industry. The chosen organization specifically operates in the
consumer electronics, computer software and hardware, cloud computing along with the
social networking service sectors. The paper provides a brief overview of the company along
with the consumer electronics industry. Apart from this, the paper provides a significant
elaboration regarding the environmental factors of United States. In addition to this, the paper
provides significant information regarding the competition that the company faces in the
mentioned market. Other than this, the paper includes a crucial analysis regarding the internal
environment of the company along with a set of important suggestions for the improvement
of the business operations for the company.
Company history:
The selected company is one of the significant American multinational organization
and is considered to be a market giant in the IT and Technology industry. The selected
company was established in the year 1975 by the duo of Paul Allen and Bill Gates
(Microsoft.com, 2019). The company is currently headquartered in Washington and serves
the customers across the world with the products such as Windows, Servers, Office along
with the services such as the LinkedIn, Office 365, Outlook.com (Microsoft.com, 2019). The
brilliance of the management team of the company which includes the chairman of the
company, John W. Thompson, Technical Advisor, Bill Gates, President, Brad Smith and the
Chief Executive Officer of the company, Satya Nadella along with the service excellence of
134944 number of skilled and qualified employees played a crucial role in the generation of
110.36 billion US dollars in the year 2018 (Microsoft.com, 2019). Along with that, the

company was able to generate an operating income of 35.05 billion U dollars in the year 2018
which proves the strong financial base of the company (Microsoft.com, 2019).
Industry overview:
Considering the significantly growing IT and Technology industry, it is evident that
the business operations of the companies are distributed in various industries starting from
the Hardware, Software, Services, infrastructure, information and digital business (Dutta,
Geiger & Lanvin, 2015). With a precise focus on such diversified product categories, it is
visible that the companies have the scope of designing considerable number of solutions or
products for their customers which not only increases the profit of the companies but also
increases the customer loyalty towards the company.
