INTRODUCTION
Tourism is defined as the activities that allows individuals to move and stay at places that
provides different environment and involves change of geographical areas. Global tourism leads
to providing an opportunities to large number of individuals to move out of national boundaries
and helps an economy to grow. As tourism industry is one of the major sector that generates
foreign exchange earnings in the country. More and more globalisation helps in enhancing
connectivity in two nations and provides opportunities to explore new places. Through
globalisation connectivity among two nations becomes strong and this provides a opportunity to
national business to expand internationally (Cornelissen, 2017). To understand the concept of
global tourism destinations Kuoni Travel organisation is considered. This organisation was
founded in the year 1906 in Zurich, Switzerland. Services including passenger airlines, package
holidays, cruise lines and hotel destinations are provided with staff of 12000 employees.
In this project scale and nature of global tourism with growth and characteristics of key
emerging markets and destinations are provided. Role of key organisations in development of
global tourism together with threats, issues and challenges to further development of global
tourism is mentioned in the report.
TASK 1
P1: Interpret statistics to present an overview of the nature and trends of tourism on a global
scale
Tourism at global level is an activity that provides travelling opportunities to individuals
and group of persons to shift into totally different environment for a small period of time.
Tourism at initial phase was quite expensive and usually it was not attractive because of huge
amounts of finances were required to make to trip to some other nation. Global tourism helps in
growth and development of the industry by providing various services that facilitates tourism
(Ezeuduji, 2015). Services like pre booking facilities, hotel accommodation, travelling services
and food and beverages helps to develop this industry with the consumers present at national and
international level.
Tourism industry is at growing stage and providing number of attractive services to large
number of consumer group with services that are affordable and as per consumer taste and

preference. A revolutionary growth is recorded in the global tourism industry in the past decade
and this leads to generation of positive development of all the other complementary services.
When tourism industry is seen at big picture that it is recorded that growth is predicted at
an annual rate of 3.8% in the year 2025. this growth rate is faster than growth in the overall
economy of UK. Growth in the tourism industry is promoting development in various other
industries that are influenced through enhanced tourism.

From the above graph it can be interpreted that tourism industry has reflected growth
through number of tourist arriving form different nations is increasing in UK. It is estimated that
in the year 2020 number of tourist in UK will be at 1000 million (Gössling and Peeters, 2015).
This expected growth rate will help in developing whole economy and will generate more and
more revenue for the nation.
Tourism Trends in the global industry reflects the following trends-
Local Experience: In today's scenario it can be noticed tourist while visiting new places
shows their interest to engage with and participate in the local culture. Enjoying local cuisine to
celebrate regional festivals and holidays, local experience are some of the recent trends that are

seen in the industry. For example- to enjoy local experience tourist visit Japan at the time of local
festivals so that traditional food, games and cultural cativities can be enjoyed.
Automation and technology: One of the more eye-catching popular trend is Connie, the
Hilton Hotel Chain's robot concierge (Higham, 2018). This fully automatic hotel facilities
attracts tourism and it is seen that more and more tourist prefer automation facilities.
Involvement of more and more technology for online booking and pre visiting destination
through digital interface is one of the most trending facility that is enjoyed by large number of
tourist.

P2: Investigate the characteristics of key tourist generating and receiving areas of the world
As tourism is on of the fastest growing industry in the world it induces various countries
to generate some features in the nation that are turned as a key factors for attracting more and
more tourists. Opportunities are complemented with competition in the tourism industry and to
make a economy well established and developed for tourism all the facilities that supports
tourism must be developed in the nation (Use of mobile in tourism industry, 2019). Countries
that are developed possess well established infrastructure and transportation facilities with some
attractive and well designed establishments that become centre of attraction for all tourist. For
example- Burj Khalifa in Dubai has become centre of attraction and attracting more and more
tourist to visit. Some of the characteristics for generating and receiving tourist in the country are
as follows-

Architecture: Physical structure of a nation had become one of the important factor that
attracts and bring more and more tourism in the nation. Tourism architecture shapes the
landscape in the long run. As a result of this architectural improvement leads to enhance quality
of tourism in the country. When historical monuments in the country will be developed and
maintain properly than it become centre of attraction for tourists who wants to feel the culture of
the city. This will help in introducing more and more tourist in the UK.
Infrastructure: It defines a physical system of a nation in relation to transportation
facilities, water, sewage and electric system (Jovicic, 2014). In tourism industry infrastructure
has become one of the important key for attracting tourism. To enhance tourism in the country
government takes intervention through developing various infrastructure facilities so that
destination can become more attractive to tourists. For example- Dubai is one of the well
developed country with new and techno friendly infrastructure and this has become one of the
reason for Dubai to become one of the most preferred location to tourists.
Tourism Sites: Natural beauty of a place is and will always be a driving factor for
introducing tourism to such places. Beautiful and peaceful environment grabs attention for
tourist and they recommend such places to others and is termed as one of the key factor
attracting more and more consumers in tourism industry. For example- Eiffel tower, snow fall
point in Switzerland, ancient caves and natural parks has become one of the key factor for
attracting more and more tourists.

P3: Determine specific reasons for the growth of key global tourism generating and receiving
areas of the world
Tourism has become one of the important factors contributing more and more towards
economic development of a nation. Increasing trends in the industry helps towards development
of various other sectors that grows simultaneously with tourism industry (Kiráľová and
Pavlíčeka, 2015). Enhancement in tourism brings more and more business in the economy and
helps in improving standard of living through providing more and more job opportunities in the
nation. When tourism increases it leads to increase number of cross border transactions and
facilities international business to grow and expand rapidly. Some of the fastest growing and
preferred tourist destination in present time is Europe, Dubai, China and United Kingdom.

Reasons that are recorded which leads these favoured destinations to become more preferred are
as follows-
Good climate and beautiful scenery: Beautiful climatic conditions has become one of
the important feature that grabs attention of tourist at any place. Pleasant climate and ample of
sunshine attracts tourist who comes from different climatic conditions. For example- Resorts that
are located in UK and USA in warmer reason attracts individuals of colder reasons. Individuals
that are located in warm countries gets attracted towards colder countries to take good experience
of environment (Lew, Hall and Williams, eds., 2014). Various picnic sports with beautiful
sceneries with fresh water lakes, waterfalls and sunset points become attractive additional points
that helps in enhancing tourism in a particular nation.
Socio-economic factors: Accessibility, accommodation, amenities and other services
become important factor in the area of attracting more and more tourist to a particular
destination. Accessibility of all the services to make tourism easy attracts more and more
consumers to enjoy tourism. Accommodation facilities as per life-style of different tourist helps
in providing services as per their taste and preference and attracts more and more consumer
group. Amenities like skiing, roping, paragliding, rowing, surfing and safari adventures are
considered by tourist while selecting a place to enjoy tourism.
Historical and Cultural factors: Many tourists are attracted to places of historical
significance and that which have a legacy of rich cultural heritage. Tourist love to enjoy places
and famous ancient monuments that brings them near to history and culture which was their in
the history. For example- Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, great wall of China, Stonehenge in England
and Taj Mahal in India are some of the famous monuments that attracts more and more tourism
in these countries (Liu, 2014).

Exploration: This is the first stage in which a place is identified and visited by few
peoples and after that they tell others about their experience. Exploring new places by more and

destinations helps in introducing more tourism and economic opportunities for a nation.
Involvement: At this stage local people starts noticing number of tourist visiting a
particular destination. After that they started getting involved for providing various services such

Development: At this stage business organisations identifies new tourism as an

be operated and enhanced at global level than World Tourism Organisation helps in developing
and sustaining tourism activities at world level (Saarinen and Lenao, 2014). UNWTO
organisation in the current scenario is one of the major contributor towards GDP of a nation and
also leads towards sales and purchase of goods and services in other sectors. This is one of the
organisation that comprises with private sector development as well as educational institutions
are involved to develop sustainable development of tourism industry. Some of the barriers of
these international organisations are as follows-
Reducing barriers in tourism industry: Various international organisations such as
European Travel Commission, World Tourism Organisation and International Tourism
Association involves in minimising chances of international barriers in the industry. They play
major role in facilitating all those services which supports growth and development of tourism
industry at global level. Main focus is provided on sustainable development of tourism.
Enhancing Tourism Via Attractive Packages: WTO interrupt in the tourism industry
with an intention to bring safeguard and interests of traveller which help them to develop

P6: Review the significance of various threats, issues and challenges to the future development
of global tourism
As tourism industry is one of the most growing and developing industry all over the
world by providing a wide range of activities in the process of revenue generation. Working in
the huge business environment which is full of competition and uncertainties brings threats,
issues and challenges towards global tourism. Some of the challenges and issues that hinders
growth and development of the industry are defined as below-
Threat of Terrorism: Terrorism is termed as one of the greatest threat to travel industry.
In the present time various beautiful travel destinations are avoided by tourists because of the
security concerns and issues they face while visiting to certain places. For example- in France
after attacks in July 2016 hotels saw a rapid decline in revenue and this attack also hinders
tourism of Paris. A decline in the rate of tourist visitors is recorded in Phuket after attack of
terrorists. Approx 200000 less tourist visitors arrived in the country after these attacks.
Climatic Conditions: Adverse climatic conditions has become one of the important
factors for creating hinderer in growth of tourism industry. Global warming and change in
climate results as a threat to tourism sector as it makes travelling destinations less attractive to
visitors. Countries which is populated and possessed adverse environmental conditions are
avoided by tourist and this leads to poor growth and development of tourism industry. National
and international organisations like European travel commission and WTO make each possible
efforts so that tourism is encouraged. To maintain good climatic conditions business
organisations and general public are provided with motive to clean and safe environment.
Safety and Security: In travelling industry threat regarding safety and security at the
time of travelling form hijack and accidents is a challenge in the sector. Together with this threat
of safety in different nations and theft and totally different language and culture acts as a

From the above project report it has been concluded that global tourism as per its statical
data is reflecting increasing trend over the period of time. As tourism is increasing rapidly in the
world there are several characteristics that needs to be present in a destination for receiving more
and more tourism. As per destination life cycle all the places needs to move with different phases
that defines its stage for development. Tourism is increasing rapidly and digital media is
contributing to its fullest to being growth and development in the tourism sector. Factors that
attracts tourist to visit a particular destination needs to be developed and keeps on evaluating so
that tourism can be enhanced and maintained. International organisations make all their efforts to
introduce sustainable development of tourism sector.
