INTRODUCTION
A green roof is a based on the building that are partially as well as completely covered with
vegetation and also growing planted over water proofing membrane. It may include different
additional layers such as drainage, root barrier and irrigation system. The documentation will
describe about the Green roofs which last longer than convention for reducing energy cost
through natural insulation. It will create peaceful retreats for animals and people which are
automatically absorb storm water. The essay will cover the advantage and disadvantage of Green
Roofs. It will discuss about the different type of vegetation that mainly used in Green Roofs.
MAIN BODY
Define Green Roofs
A Green roof system is a type of extension that existing roof which mainly involves high
quality of water proofing, drainage system, root repellent system and other type of light-weight
growing medium and plants. It can be defined that Green roof may be design in modular, filter
and also growing media. This type of Green roof development include creation of contained
green space through human-made structure (Baciu, Lupu and Maxineasa, 2019). On the other
hand, A green roof is simply assuming the growth of vegetation because it is made of
waterproofing layer so as growing plants. Green roofs can be divided into different groups:
intensive, semi-intensive and extensive.
Extensive roofs have growing medium shallow which usually less than six inches with
limited plant diversity. Sometimes, it is not accessible. Intensive green roofs have grown deeper
soil medium which always support for diversifying in selection of plant. It may include small
trees. These are three different type of green roofs which require for specific layers in roofing
materials (Mahmoodzadeh, Mukhopadhyaya and Valeo, 2020). It consists of drainage layer,
roofing membrane, Thermal insulation. Filter membrane and structural roof support. These
layers have performed different task to keep maintain and protect structure layer.
Background Information on Green Roofs.
The origin of Green Roofs began thousands of years ago, consider the most famous green
roofs that are hanging Garden of Babylon. It is to be considered in seven wonders of ancient
world and also constructed around 500 B.C. The extensive green roofs are basically lightweight
adaptation of sod roofs which help for reconstructing the overall design structure. It is the most
extensive Green roof that beneficial for resolving urban environmental problems and issues. In
