Introduction
Aiming to create a fair and comprehensive view about the various processes of group
dynamics and the factors that impede group interaction, this essay will elaborate upon the ideas
as well as theories related to communication. Group dynamics refers to the various manners in
which individuals in a group interact to establish as well as maintain the sanctity of the group
(Nazzaro & Strazzabosco, 2009). The presented case study presents the problem faced by
Machalia in one of her group dynamics engagement. It was seen that she was not allowed to
voice her opinions in the group that consisted of mostly senior members. It was also seen that the
senior members had completely disregarded her opinions about sponsorships. The problem lies
in the fact that her ideas were discarded by the other experienced members of the group. The
following paragraphs will endeavor to argue for the idea that it is essential for every group
member to take into consideration the perception and ideas of others, irrespective of the age or
expertise.
Discussion
It has to be accepted that the aspect of group dynamics inculcates the crucial notion of
proper team building (Geiman, 2016). In the given case scenario, it is seen that there is a
prevalence of lack of team-building ideologies because the senior members failed to take into
consideration the ideas of the person concerned. Studies and theories are emblematic of the fact
that in order to build concrete teams, it is essential to take into consideration the perspectives of
each member (Watson, Gatewood & Lewis, 2014). In addition to this, it can also be said that the
aspect of group dynamics also encompasses the concept of the proper introduction of each
participating member (Klandermans, 2014). In the given case scenario, it can be traced that the

group members of Machalia failed to indulge in proper introduction of the perspectives of each
other. Recent studies are emblematic of the idea that in order to achieve proper group dynamics,
it is crucial to inculcate the notion of concrete and regular group communication. Transparent
and regular group communication acts as a catalyst in the transference of information from one
to another (De Oliveira, Huertas & Lin, 2016). A closer look at the given case study will reveal
that there is a lack of proper and comprehensive communication. Machalia’s view-points were
disregarded for being too far-fetched and representative of the views of present generation.
However, it has to be accepted that in order to ensure the proper flow of ideas amidst the groups,
it is important for the existence of the communication amidst all the members.
In the given scenario, it was also seen that one of the main aspect of the scenario was that
the senior members had tried to exercise their dominance over the speaker. Studies project the
idea that exercising dominance over others in group interaction and communication can act as
impediments in the process of effective team building (Forsyth, 2018). Recent studies depict the
idea that in group interactions, it is integral to value the opinion and perspectives of others. In the
given scenario, it is seen that the dominating individuals refused to assimilate the ideas of
Machalia. This is reflective of the idea of exercise of superiority that had prevented the person
from properly expressing her views. This aspect is problematic because this aspect is seen to be a
major cause that contributes in the relative non-participation of other participants in group
activities as well as endeavors. It has to be accepted that dominant leaders and members fail to
perceive the capabilities and inherent skills of other members of the group. Dominant members
in the group also fail to take into consideration the perspectives and ideologies of others. In the
given scenario, it is seen that the senior members refused to consider the perspective of
Machalia. It can be said that, in this situation, Machalia had suggested a relevant and proper idea.

However, due to the sheer exercise of dominance as well as ego, the seniors had refused to pay
any heed to her propositions.
This aspect is quite a disruptive one because this has affected and impeded the
participation of the person concerned. A closer look at the case scenario will unearth that the
aspect of unequal domination had impeded the proper development and expression of ideas of
Machalia. In addition to this, it has to be accepted that the given scenario is also emblematic of
the prevalent failure in group dynamics. Various studies and cases have revealed that in the
instances of group dynamics, there have been cases that reveal the sheer failure of
communication that led to the failure of the group (Kanki, 2019).
One of the most important part of team and group formation is the idea of achieving a
common goal and resolving the various problems. In order to achieve this, it is important for the
group to agree upon common ideas and objectives. However, to achieve this, it is crucial to take
into consideration and to collate the various emerging ideas and conceptions. It has to be
accepted that for the achievement of proper objective, the group has to understand the various
ideas and concepts (Harvey, 2014). In order to resolve this aspect of dominance exerted over the
group members, it is quite crucial to erase the presence of unnecessary dominance. As is detected
in the above-mentioned scenario, unnecessary dominance can impede the personal progress of
participating members. To achieve the equal representation and prevalence of each member,
groups need to organize activities that help in the proper representation of members. Proper
measures of monitoring needs to be inculcated to monitor the equal participation and
involvement of each participant. In addition to this, it can also be said that the aspect and
processes of group communication and group dynamics can be resolved when the group
implements proper communication measures through social media platforms (Seufert et al.,

2016). This can ensure the correct and comprehensive collection of feedbacks and responses of
each member in relation to the objectives as well as the goals that need to be achieved and
concretized.
A comprehensive look at the entire scenario will project that the case represents the sheer
failure of group dynamics and group relations. The situation could have been resolved if the
senior members had taken into consideration the perceptions of the person concerned. This could
have allowed the assimilation of the ideas of the person concerned.
Conclusion
After analyzing the above-discussed ideas, it can be mentioned that the problem of
domination and disruption in conversation had been caused by the exercise of dominance by the
senior members in the group. The problem had also been caused by the repeated interruption and
disregard extended to the person concerned. It is important for the problem to be resolved to
ensure that proper group communication and dynamics can be achieved. Considering all the
parties, it can be said that the seniors should have resorted to gauge the ideas of Machalia. She
should have tried to express her views. The long term and short term solutions point towards the
idea that it is important to inculcate the notion of proper understanding and training.
Theoretically, the problem relates to the area that seniors often try to belittle the perspectives of
others.
