INTRODUCTION
Leadership
Leadership is the process of motivating a group of people or individuals to focus over
gaining a common goal. Leadership plays vital role in the organization’s success such as it
supports leaders to motivate their followers to put higher level of efforts in the workplace
through their string relation with the human resource managers (Nawaz and Khan_ PhD, 2016).
It is one of the prime functions of the manager that helps in maximizing efficiency as well as
gaining goals. So, it is important for the managers to have all traits of a leader then they can be
ideal leader for the staff in the company. There is various type of leadership theories that adapts
by leaders in the company. Leadership theories explains individuals how and why only fewer
people become a successful leader. Such kind theories always focus on the characteristics of the
leader, but there are several theories that attempts to determine the behaviours which individuals
can adapt to enhance their own leadership capabilities in dynamic situations. However,
leadership styles and leadership theories keep big difference from each other such as leadership
theory is a type of discipline that focus on what makes person a successful leader and what they
do. While leadership style always focuses on traits and behaviours of the leader. Toy’s ‘R’ Us is
an international clothing, toy and baby product retailer company which offers it’s product
services across the world. In this company, HR professionals perform significant role in the
company they support company to make it’s business globalized in the business market.
company posses’ several segments of products like toys, clothing, baby products and video
games. HR managers have adopted different leadership style in order to make business
successful in its sector and expand it’s business activities across the global. Leadership theories
are mentioned below as follows:
Situational leadership theory
Choosing leadership theory means pick the right leadership style for the right person. It is
proposed by Blanchard and Hersey in order to bring understanding in leaders that how to act at
different places with different leadership styles. The main goal of the situational leadership is to
access own strengths, skills and level of maturity in being self-directed in the form of gaining
goal. This leadership theory encompasses four type leadership styles i.e. coaching, directing,
supporting and delegating. HR professionals of Toys ‘R’ Us company adapts this leadership style
as well in the company to deal with current situation. For example, it has faced huge financial

loss in their business due to covid-19 pandemic and it also brings employees dissatisfaction in
the business. due to this HR managers plans to implement some new strategies so that company
can recover it’s loss. To implement strategies, it is essential for the managers of Toy’s ‘R’ Us
company to stay motivated staff in the workplace. So, HR professionals follows situational
leadership theory in the company to become good leaders and brings acceptances in individuals
for the new working environment in the company (Foti and et.al., 2017). With the support of
situational leadership theory, leaders adapts coaching leadership style and organize skills and
development class for the staff so that individual can learn how to use digital platform for selling
product and services in effective manner. Due to covid-19 all MNC’s have become digitalized
because most of the people avoids to go out for buying something in the pandemic period. So,
they prefer to buy products from online platform. Coaching leadership style supports HR
managers to train it’s staff and improves their working efficiency in the business market (Fiaz,
Su and Saqib, 2017). While delegating leadership style is another leadership style of situational
leadership which is adopted by HR manager to delegate different tasks among staff accordingly
their expertise so that each gives their best performance. HR also adapts supportive leadership
style in the task completing situation because there were several staff who were facing issues
while dealing with complex tasks. In that state HR helps them to figure out issues and makes
them more efficient for the job. Thus, different leadership styles of situational leadership theory
have adopted by HR managers to deal with current situation so that Toy’s ‘R’ Us can gain
maximum profitable results in the business.
Democratic leadership
Democratic leadership is known as participative or shared leadership that is one of the
most common and popular leadership styles because it plays effective role when leaders works
with highly professional and experienced workforce. It is another one of the most effective
theory that have adopted by HR professionals in Toys ‘R’ Us company. This leadership theory
believes in leading motivation in number of staff then company can achieve it’s all proposed
goal within timeframe (Thompson and Glasø, 2018). This leadership theory has only one specific
leadership style that is democratic leadership style which must entail up with different factors
such as competence, creative, courage, honesty, intelligence and fairness. HR managers of the
Toys ‘R’ Us company involves all staff members in the decision-making process so that they can
understand individual’s aspect regarding proposed decision and HR listens them intently as a
