Case study summary
The case study here talks about Ester who is a 28 year old Australian woman. Ester received a
diagnosis for paranoid schizophrenia, opioid and alcohol dependence. The patient had also
encountered incidences of sexual victimization. The patient is homeless, lives in a shelter and
depicts active psychotic behaviour. The patient considers her drug and alcohol abuse to be a
normal phenomenon and not an addiction. The patient had often visited the community and local
health care centre with a number of physical and mental health issues and refused to accept any
treatment. On extension of the health services to the patient she had often depicted less
engagement, which affected the recovery rates in the patient. Ester mentioned that she feels
threatened by the healthcare professionals attending to her support care and rejected the
medications provided to her. Therefore, a wellness recovery action plan (WRAP) could be
designed to extend sufficient care and support to the patient.
