INTRODUCTION
Health and safety is required to be maintained in healthcare by putting efforts in order
to determine workplace hazards and reducing safety issues properly. It consists training
procedures for personnel in terms of accident prevention, emergency preparedness and
utilisation of protective clothing & equipment’s (Lennard and et. al., 2016). Moreover, it is
necessary to apply effective procedures and regulations intended to prevent accidents or
injury at workplace in health and social care. The present report is based on NHS Trust which
was established under National Health Service & Community Care Act 1990 and set up in
five ways. This assignment will focus on systems, policies and procedures for communicating
information with responsibility to manage health & safety at workplace. It will also include
risk assessments and impact of health & safety policy in context of care practices. The
effectiveness of policies & practices at workplace to promote healthy and safety culture with
self-contribution for the same is given below.

2.1 Impact of risks assessments to make decision about policies and procedures
According to case scenario, it has been analysed many of healthcare trusts did not
consist bariatrics policy which is required to lead planning, amassment and management.
However, it includes management of manual handling risks including number of staff,
provision of appropriate equipment’s, and intra & inter agency communication (Lindahl and
et al., 2013). Moreover, NHS trust is required to adopt bariatrics policy involving assessment
of risks in order to make correct decision regarding policies and procedures to improve
experience of obese patients and increase effectiveness of clinical practices. Moreover,
impact of risk assessment in healthcare is given below –
Capability to take immediate actions – The assessment of risk and problems are
helpful to make accurate plan of care and facilitate correct decision making about policies in
order to conduct effective medication process. The NHS Trust should implement bariatric
policy in respect to assess and manage risk factors by proper decision making for taking
immediate steps to provide treatment to obese people.

Increase effectiveness of plan – The care plan is required to be prepared by
evaluating actual problem of sick individual which facilitate to utilise appropriate treatment

of clinical practices and procedures. However, it will provide support to reduce risk and
complications in medical condition of obese people in respect of making them healthy. In
addition to this, NHS Trust can achieve beneficial impacts of implementing health & safety
polices on care practices which are as under –
Management of emotions This consist to manage the emotions and obese
individuals and motivate them to remain calm while undergoing the treatment procedure
(Rainnie, 2016). It is necessary for NHS Trust to encourage people to maintain their will
power as it plays an important role to increase medication outcomes.
Patient handling – The obese patient are heavy in weight so that it is essential to
carefully handling them because single fall or misshapen can results into severe injury. The
NHS Trust is required to make proper decision to moving or handling obese people by
assessing their situation and related risks to prevent problems and make them healthy very
soon.
Improve treatment process – The risk assessment is supportive to prepare effective
care planning by adopting appropriate procedures and activities in order to increase obese
patient experience (Zurutuza and Marinelli, 2014). However, NHS Trust should properly

2.3 How dilemmas encountered in relation to implementing systems and policies for health &
safety
The dilemma can be described as a situation in which difficulties are faced while
choosing one from two or more alternative choices. In context of systems and policies for
health & safety regarding obese people, it is necessary to select best criteria to make the well-
being. Moreover, NHS Trust is required to follow standards of practices and legislations in
order to apply efficient policies and methods for improving treatment outcomes of obese
individuals. There are certain standards given by Care Quality Commission (CQC) such as
safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led should be followed by NHS Trust for ensuring
correct systems or policies to be implemented at workplace to make obese individuals disease
free. In addition to this, it is important to gain knowledge about laws of nation related to
health & safety to obey them accurately as it facilitate to conduct correct attempts of
treatment (Ruwanpura, 2013). However, it consists various Acts including Public Health act
1936, Mental Health act 1983, Mental Health act 2007 and many more that helps to ensure
safety of patients in respect of specific medication process.
At the other hand, there are several principles to be followed at the time of conducting
healthcare procedures and methods to make obese person well-being. It include safety,
dignity, independence, privacy and communication which facilitate to manage health of an
individual properly. The overweight or obese people are required to be treated by obeying
desired legislations, principles and standards to gain better outcomes of medications. The
dilemma of using bariatric policy can be decided through legal rules and principles in
different situations of obese individuals in order to conduct accurate treatment process for
their well-being.
2.4 Effects of non-compliance with health & safety legislation
The non-compliance can be described as failure of an action in respect of expectations
regarding outcomes of specific process or activity. It consist various side effects on patient
outcomes and may create complicated situation which is difficult to be solved for care
professionals (Shatkin and Kim, 2015). However, there are different legal rules related to
health & safety such as Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, Manual Handling Operations

Regulations 1992, Control of Substances Hazardous to Health 2002, Health and Safety (First
Aid) Regulations 1981 and Mental Health act 2007. It is significant to follow overall
legislations and regulations to conduct appropriate treatment process for wellbeing of obese
people by gaining desired results.
At the other hand, non-compliance of health & safety legislations results into several
negative effects in context of organisation as well as patient. However, it effects negatively
ion goodwill of organisation among people which results into reduce in productivity and
profitability. Moreover, it also impact severely on medical situation of obese individuals as in
appropriate attempt of medication will facilitate to further complications. In addition to this,
external agencies may take strict actions towards such organisations and cancel their licence

mattresses spent by £15–20000 a month. Moreover, several effective actions are taken
immediately which impacts positively and facilitate to gain certain benefits in Surrey and
Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. However, it will provide support to reduce problem for
assisting nursing staff, musculoskeletal injuries feel from 20% to 4% and pressure ulcer
incidences reduce from 11% to 3% respectively. In addition to this, the health and safety

3.2 Effectiveness of policies & practices to promote positive health and safety culture
The effectiveness of policies and practices plays a significant in respect of promoting
health & safety culture in healthcare organisations which helps to improve experience of sick
people. It include the criteria of preparing efficient procedures and activities so that peaceful
environment can be maintained which is beneficial to sick people as well as staff members.
However, safety policies provide support to prevent injuries, improve patient outcomes and
reduce chance of risk accordingly (Ahsen, 2014). In context of Surrey and Sussex Healthcare
NHS Trust, some of methods or strategies can be implemented to promote positive health &
safety culture which are given here. Initially, proper communication channel is required to
selected which facilitate to convey information about medical condition of patient in order to
provide correct medication for their well-being. Moreover, an effective training and learning
program should be carried out for staff members to make them more efficient & skilled to
apply safety measures in respect of making sick people healthy. In addition to this, Develop
and implement a positive reporting process include healthy conversation between
professionals to reduce chance of problems and increase results of medications procedures.
3.3 Self contribution for placing health & safety needs at centre of practice
Health & safety needs are required at every healthcare organisation because it provide
support to provide accurate medication to patients and increase perfection in practices of
staff. As per my point of view, I prefer to determine relevant issues at my own level of
working and put efforts to sort out them respectively. However, it is my contribution to
improve health & safety by applying effective practices at my own level at the time of
dealing with sick people accordingly (Zeller and Levin, 2013). Moreover, I believe that every
medical professional should think at their performance standards and try to increase their
skills to improve outcomes of treatment procedures conducted for well-being of patient. In
addition to this, registered nurse, mangers, specialist, surgeons and other professionals are
required to provide suggestions to management so that organisational policies and practices
can be improved appropriately. I have analysed that different departments required their own
specific aspects to be applied for better outcomes which should be consulted from staff
working in the same sections to fulfil health & safety needs accurately. It is necessary for

given organisation to conduct meeting of staff and take their suggestions for improvement
which facilitate to take correct actions for boosting up health & safety.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it is conclude that health & safety is an important aspect to be
ensured in health and social care at workplace. It consists systems and policies with
legislative requirements such as vertical procedure, horizontal procedure, emergency
communication system, use simple language and communicate precisely & clearly. However.
It include organisational structure with certain policies like monitor risk & hazards, managing
systems & policies and improve health and safety standards to make sure security in health
organisation. Moreover, it involves impact of risk assessment such as capability to take
immediate actions, increase effectiveness of plan and patient safety. In addition to this,
benefits of implementing safety policy include management of emotions, patient handling as
well as improve outcomes of treatment process. Furthermore, it is essential for given
healthcare organisation to follow specific standards, legislations and principles to provide
safe treatment for sick people.
