Health promotion is a process of enabling people to increase control over and improve their
health (Fletcher and et.al., 2018). This study is based on One You health promotion campaign
whose main aim was improving health and protecting them against obesity and negative impacts,
happens by alcohol consumption. It will discuss effectiveness of some health promotional
models in promoting health and in an active engagement. It will further discuss roles of
healthcare professionals in making healthcare promotion campaign effective and successful. It
will further show some relevant data, features, target people and strategies of health care
promotional model, used in One You campaign.
MAIN BODY
Effectiveness of health promotional models for success of health promotion campaign
Health education model: It is an effective health promotional model that is being used for
educating people about importance of health. They are being educated about all those activities
that can have negative impacts on their health. People are being educated about ways of
improving their health (Wold and Mittelmark, 2018). They are being taught and made aware
about ways by which they can maintain health and to seek help when needed. This model is
widely used in health promotional campaigns for accomplishing specific goals related to
campaign.
Behavior change model: It is a preventive approach that focuses on behaviors lifestyle
that impact on health to the great extent. As per this model, people are being encouraged to
follow healthy lifestyle that can improve their health. They are being asked and educated about
importance to use preventive health services and taking responsibilities for their own health.
They are being suggested some strategies and activities that can help them out in improving
health by knowing their lifestyle behavior (Miller and et.al., 2020). There are several behavior
change models or theories that are being widely used such as: social cognitive and health belief
model. Social cognitive theory in health promotion can be used in education, communication and
psychology. By this theory, professionals try to focus on interacting or maintaining a balance
between internal factors such as thinking and external determinants such as rewards. It is
believed that there is motivation behind every action and when people are being rewarded and
motivated related to improved health then they can focus on taking care of their own health.

Empowerment model: It is as like behavior theory or model to some extent as in this
theory of health promotion, professionals focus on developing individual’s ability to control their
own health. People are being encouraged to engage in critical thinking in order to know both
positive and negative sides of each activity that they do. This model is mainly developed for
supporting nurses with frameworks that can assist them for controlling their influences to
participate in healthy policy decision and helping out people in improving health by such policies
(Náfrád and et.al., 2018).
So, from the above discussed all health promotional models and theories, it can be said that these
can help healthcare professional in improving health of people and making health promotion
campaign successful.
Effectiveness of One You health promotion campaign
There are several health promotional campaigns that helped public of the UK to the great
extent in promoting and improving health. One of best examples of health promotional program
is: One You. It is the first campaign in England that targets adults in midlife in a holistic way.
The main aim of developing this program or campaign was to engage millions of people in the
year to come and provide them with personalized support in order to help them in promoting
health, maintaining simple changes that can mean a longer as well as healthier life (The One You
Campaign: A Week in Review, 2016). This campaign follows successful campaign change4life. It
encourages people to change their lifestyle or reappraise lifestyles, putting themselves first and
doing all activities and things that can improve their health. 40-60 years of people was main
target in order to make them aware about effectiveness of improving health by making use of
health promotional physical activities. It is stated that NHS spends approximate £11bn a year for
people who are living with one long term health condition for treating preventable illness that is
caused by improper diet, smoking, lack of physical activity and alcohol consumption. It works
with partners in order to encourage place based approaches for providing health services to
individuals (Bennett, 2017).
This campaign was launched in the year of 2016, March; main focus was people between
the age of 40-60 years old for improving their health. This campaign invite adults to take “how
are you” health quiz in order to know their current behaviors and suggesting them better
strategies for improvement. From this quiz, it was found that% of deaths in England is because
of people’s behavior. In the year of 2013, females and males aged of 45-64 reported a long

lasting illness. It is belied that by focusing on this age group and engaging them in this program
can double their chance at being healthy aged of 70 and over.
In this campaign of improving health of preventing people against obesity some healthcare
promotion model have been used such as:
Educational model: as per this model, healthcare organizations need to make use of some
strategies and apps via which they can educate to people about importance of improving health.
In regard to “One you” campaign, it is found that leaflet, posters and official websites have been
used for making people aware along with activities by which they can improve their health.
These are the best examples of mass media and digital marketing (Fatemi, Murray and Langley,
2021).
Empowerment model: This model is being used in health promotion in order to develop
individual’s ability for controlling their own health status. For making this campaign successful,
official website has been used for promotion of this campaign. It becomes important for
healthcare providers to make people aware about campaigns and its effectiveness in order to
engage them in campaign. So, these strategies have been used for this campaign success.
Behavior change model: It is an effective preventive approach whose main aim is
focusing on lifestyle behavior. It is important to change behavior or lifestyle of people in health
promotional campaign and under this model, face to face interview has been done with target
people in order to know their lifestyle behavior and suggesting appropriate strategies for
improving health (Brewis, SturtzSreetharan and Wutich, 2018). In most of the cases, it is found
that people were addicted to tobacco and alcohol and also due to lack of physical activity, cases
of obesity was increasing. These strategies helped in making One you campaign successful.
Role and purpose of professionals in delivering health promotion campaigns
Healthcare providers or professionals play a vital role in making health promotion campaign
successful. They communicate with target people and making them able to engage in campaign.
They provide all essential services that help in promoting health such as: access to healthcare
services, promotion of physical activity and others. As professionals have more deep and
accurate knowledge about health so they can help in spreading awareness regarding health and
also communicating to people regarding measures which can be taken in order to avoid specific
health issues (Health promotion: in depth. 2021). Campaigns are conducted so that awareness
can be given to various health issues. Various communication channels are available these days

like televisions, radio, social media etc. professional can use such channels so that to invite
people to join the campaign and through these channels professionals can also spread awareness
amongst the people. Knowing the targeted audience is very important. As professionals have
knowledge that what audience have to be targeted. As we all know that there are various health
issues. As some happens only with adults and some happens only with children while remaining
happens in both adults and children. So, its better to target population accordingly. If children
will get targeted for the health problem which develops in adults, then it will be of no use and
waste of time. Health promotions campaigns are important for the society so that can educate the
society. If society will get educated then they will remain healthy. As it is said that prevention is
better then cure so health awareness will help people to prevent themselves from harmful
diseases. It is very important that health promotion campaign is guided by some professional
because they have idea about health and know that what measure can be taken (Donovan and
McHenry, 2017).
CONCLUSION
From above discussion, it has been summarized that health promotional campaigns play a
vital role in educating people about importance of improving health. Such campaigns help people
in knowing consequences of lack of physical activities, not having nutritional values of food,
consuming alcohol and others. Further, it has discussed different healthcare models such as
educational, empowerment and behaviour change. In all these models, people are being educated
and encouraged to engage themselves in physical activities. It has also shown some features and
strategies used in One You health promotion campaign such as mass media, official websites and
others for providing detailed information to people and engaging them in campaign.
