Work related Health and Safety measures are the management interventions,
implemented for example, policies, procedures, risk management, audits, inspections, and pre-
placement health assessments.
The implementation of WHS is a protective guard against anything that can contribute to
organizational health and safety risk.
Workplace wellness programs are actions or interventions adopted in the workplace in an
attempt to actively reduce the incidence of workplace hazard, and actively reduce the likelihood
and consequence of injury or disease, for example employee support and assistance program,
general health promotion measures and programs, general health monitoring, fitness program,
workplace health and wellbeing events and inclusion of any other health products or health
services. Workplace risks include traffic management, machine guarding, working at heights etc.

Specific legislative requirements are set of prescribed laws, regulations and strategies
depending on which every organization and their employees need to determine their legislative
obligations. On the other hand non statutory health promotion programs are set of actions using
which good health and wellbeing can be fostered. The difference between these two is that where
the legislative obligations provide a framework to create a healthy workplace, health promotion
program provides the benefit to achieve health and wellness to the entire community1.

Legislated health and safety monitoring: Occupational Health and Safety Act
2004 and Work Health and safety Act 2011.
Voluntary OHS and WHS programs: Safe Work Australia, Health, safety and
wellbeing.

As per duties Work Health and Safety Act 2011, the three duties which need proper
health monitoring are
People working with electrical equipment and machines and for this purpose
different legislations such as electrical safety codes of practice has been prepared.
People who lift heavy materials from one place to another and for this purpose
workplace inspection will be carried out.
Thirdly people who are always under stress that affect their mental health and for
this purpose, consultation, representation and participation will be carried out2.

Comcare require health monitoring report because with the help of these reports, the
organizations are able to provide health monitoring and screening to its workers and as per the
regulation 376 are able to carry out tests and inspection so that injuries and diseases can be

identified. This is an important step as if the injury or disease that affects the worker is
unmonitored, it can cause severe health issue.

Lead, being a heavy metal and hazardous for health, it comes under the clause 392 of
Work Health and safety and all the organizations need to take effective safety measures for their
workers dealing with lead directly or indirectly. In my region as well, at first a notification will
be generated prior to work with lead, and the complete details as the commonwealth WHS
regulation should be provided in the notification. As well as the biological monitoring of the
person dealing with lead will be increased so that the level of lead in his/her blood can be
monitored and can be prevented from any adverse situation3.

Working hours: Extended working hour can cause stress and affect the mental
stability of the employee as well as detach them from their social life.
Economic insecurity: If the employees are not being paid as per the effort they
put in the work, it affect their confidence and mental strength negatively.
Working environment: it is an important factor as with positive working
environment employees can accept challenges and overcome them without any
difficulty.
