Abstract
Southern Regional Health System is a healthcare organization of Jackson, Mississippi.
The organization is focussed in providing quality of care among the patients irrespective of
their race and ethnicity. But, a recent report has produced a gap in the care which has
occurred due to the disparities. However, another report also disclosed that the staffs of the
organization are ready to acquire changes in order to reduce the gap of disparities. A
thorough analysis has found the exact strength and challenges of the organization. It is
assumed that an improved strategy and educational program can help can help the
organization in this regard. It will also help to improve the quality of service also.

“Where we are now”
Southern Regional Health System is a healthcare providing organization in Jackson,
Mississippi. In order to find the current position of the organization, an environmental
assessment is highly required which will show the community of people living around. The
area is well-known for its high diverse population and the poverty rate is also very high in
that region. Among the people living in the poverty line, Hispanics and blacks were three
times more in count when compared to white people. It means most of the poor people in that
area were from the black as well as Hispanic community. From the organizational review it
can be said that the mission of the organization is to provide “excellent quality of care for
all”. The main philosophy of the organization which they follow is to be “colour blind” while
providing care. They did not want to keep ant disparities as per the race and ethnicity of the
people who come for the healthcare services. The organizational culture has been established
in such a way so that care can be equitably delivered across the patients and patient
population who visit the organization to get services of healthcare. From the external
assessment of the organization it has been found that Southern Regional Health System was
situated in such a place where unemployment was one of the biggest concerns which resulted
in the increased poverty rate (Wang, Kung & Byrd, 2018). The unemployment rate among
the black residents were two and half times more than the white residents and Hispanic
people were likely to have two times more unemployment rate than the white people living in
the area. This disparity in employment and poverty also affected the market structure.
However, the organization was focussed to provide care irrespective of the race and ethnicity
but the internal assessment produced the fact that, there were indeed disparities in care
provided by them. The report on the four core measures for heart failure among the patients
visiting the organization showed the result that all the patients were not receiving equal
