Difference between clinical data and administrative data
Clinical data is considered as the staple resource of data for medical and health
research. This data is collected either as the part of the official clinical trial practice or as the
part of the development of continuing patient care. Example of clinical data includes
electronic heath records (EHR). While on the other hand, administrative data is considered as
the data or information collected by the organization regarding their operations. This data
primarily includes information of routine operations and evaluate the effectiveness of the
organization in achieving their target or goal. The clinical data is collected by the health
researcher that will include all the relevant information regarding the patient and their health
condition whereas, administrative data is responsible for collecting the information of the
families and children they serve (Ehrenstein et al., 2017).
Why does the inpatient record have more content than those from some of the other
settings?
The inpatient care is provided to such individuals who spends at least a single night in
the hospital to receive adequate treatment and care form the hospital and inpatient record is
responsible for collecting all the relevant information of the patients who are present in the
hospital for at least a full day. In the inpatient record, the healthcare facility can integrate all
the relevant information of the patients present in the same hospital, belonging to different
departments. While, the other healthcare setting like rehabilitation, physician office and
emergency department have limited number of patients and this record does not include
information of every patient like inpatient record. Therefore, inpatient record have more
content and data as compared to other settings (Mehta et al., 2016).
