3.1 Impact of ownership on the management of heritage and cultural sites
Many public as well as private organizations are willing to
getting the ownership of cultural heritage sites. It is helpful
for them in order to earn profits and sales revenues as well.
Basically, these organizations are coming under the control
of government of UK or some another non-profit business
entities. In addition, some traveling companies which are not
able to earn high profits and values are still in the hands of
private industries; they are least bothered by preserving
their historical importance. There is mention public,
commercial and cultural organizations; and its roles or
responsibilities towards management: -
Public business organizations – there are many public sector
business organizations that have an impact on growth and
development of cultural heritage industries. For example-
department of cultural, media & sports are coming under
public sectors. These kind of organizations are in under
controlled of government of UK and it is liable for its all
functions as well as operations. The main aim of these
business entities is to providing all traveling services to
people at lower rates. They can raise their funds with the help
of central government of United Kingdom.
Private sector business organizations - the main objective of
private sector business organization is to earn profits by
providing quality services to customer. They are regulate with
the aim of achieving their goals and aims in order to providing
then trendy products of traveling. Along with this, Woodland
trust and national trust are the two types of private business
organization. Now a days this type of industries are developing
in competitive market because it is enable to easily influence
customers by giving attractive tourism packages.
Voluntary sectors – Voluntary sectors are considered with non-
profitable business organizations which are implement with the
aim of social welfare. These organizations are developed in
market in order to provide services to the lower section of the
society. In addition, English Heritage and Heritage Lottery funds
are the two types of voluntary business organization. Their
managers can raises funds by receiving donation and charities
form higher authorities.
Private, public and voluntary sectors plays an important role in
growth and success of these sectors. Many business organizations
are working with existing historical monuments. In UK one of them
is historic monument and building to England. It is a non-
government sector that is working with old architectures in
London. This can also be known as English Heritage. It is its
responsibility in order to preserve many historical sites that are
emerged with English Coasts. Along with this, The National Trust
was also established in same sector in the year of 1894 with the
similar aim of preserving cultural heritage. The main objectives is to
prevent the beauty of old buildings with the help of art, pictures
and furniture. Visitors who came in UK are mainly belong from
foreign locations and linguistic. So as managers of these industries
should have to implement different expert facilities and providing
guides to their tourists.
3.2 Roles and responsibilities of business organizations
Department for media: - The department of cultural, media and sports is
concern with UK's government. It was responsible to providing services in
2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games; that are enable to build a digit economy
for UK. Along with this, it is helpful in order to take responsibilities on regular
basis and improving strength of cultural heritage industries. DCMS was enable
to coordinating the overall department successfully bid by London and
appointed as a agency of supplying the games and programs in whole world. In
2010, DCMS was received the total responsibility for digital economy policy
and joined hands with BIS.
Heritage Lottery fund – It was setup in 1994 under the national lottery act. The
lottery fund is enable to support all types of projects as big as they having a
long lasting impact on heritage industries. It is registered charity that maintain
the all collection of National Heritage. English charity involves over 400
historical buildings, sites and monuments of England that are older more than
5000 years. It is enable to distribute a share of national lottery funding that
have a collection of a wide range of heritage projects across UK. In addition, it
is enable to provide fund to non-profit organizations in order to applications
for investments. It is a non departmental body of public that reports to the
parliament.
Woodland Trust – It was founded in Devon, England in 1972 by the Kenneth
Watkins. In 1977, it had 22 branches in six counterspies; Woodland Trust
announced an expansion of sits activities across united kingdom. It is acquired
Balmacaan Wood next to Loch Nees in 1984. now it has over 80 woods in
Scotland and by covering 210000 acres. Along with this, the organizations
receive their findings from the sources that include legacies, membership,
appeals or donations, grants or charitable trust, corporate supports and another
business organizations.
