Strengths and Weaknesses of the Organization
The organization, one of the most sought after health care institutes in USA, has many
positive and negative aspects. The strengths of the organization are:
Infrastructure: the organization has several medical institutions like Weill Cornell Medicine
and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons collaborated with them. They
have different divisions for regional healthcare, ambulance service and community healthcare
management. There infrastructure includes thousands of beds, operation theatres, pathology
centers, doctors, nurses and other executives (Griffith, 2015).
Technology: in order to provide the best healthcare, the organization uses the best medical
equipment, technology and facilities. This makes them leaders in the industry. They also have
an extremely developed network system and record database that stores all patient data.
These can be used to diagnose the conditions of the patients better and provide them with
better care.
Online facilities: the organization uses their online website for the patients ease. The patients
can book appointments, call ambulances and navigate their services through this website.
This knowledge sharing helps people to gain trust towards their services.

the organization. They are equipped to handle all kinds of situation. They are able to manage
the workings of the hospital well.
The weaknesses of the organization are:

Expense: the healthcare in USA is expensive. In this organization, the expense of healthcare
is quite high and thus many patients might face problem while paying the bills. The health
insurances cover much of the healthcare, but they have become costly and difficult to claim
in many cases.
Cyber security: the organization holds an enormous amount of personal data of large
number of people. The database have the risk of being under attack from hackers which will
have an immense detrimental effect on the organization.
Steps for improvement
In order to prepare the New York-Presbyterian Hospital for Baldrige program the following
steps can be taken:
Improve cyber security: the organization must improve the security of the record keeping
system. They must install improved and hierarchy based information access system so that
the information is better protected. Better firewalls and thereat detection system is also
necessary.
Integration: the most important part of Baldrige program is to integrate the organs into on
unit for better performance. In order prepare the organization, the integration of all the units
are necessary. The medical facilities, colleges and services need to work seamlessly. In order
to do that, an improved communication channel needs to be established.
Cost-reduction for patients: the organization should attempt to reduce the cost of the
healthcare services. They should also provide the audience with assistance regarding the
insurance claims so that they are able to avail their services.
Human resource management: the organization recruits a large number of human resource

to be established (GOVERNANCE AND LEADERSHIP., 2019). The human resources needs to
spread evenly and efficiently in order to provide optimum service to the patients.
Importance of the steps
These steps are important, as these will prepare the organization for Baldrige recognition.
The Baldridge recognition requires organizations to have high performance characteristics.
Integrating the different organs and institutions connected to it, establishing patient assistance
and human resource management will help the organization perform better.
Challenges
For the implementation of the steps a change needs to be brought in the organization
and the workers related to it needs to support it. This is likely to be the greatest challenge.
The workers are generally resistant to any large change. They might feel threatened because
of the changes that are needed. Another challenge that can appear is the funding. These kinds
of changes need large funding. The authority and the management may be unwilling to invest
a large sum of money for the implementation of the plan. Managing the patients and their
care during the change period is another challenge (Schulingkamp & Latham, 2015). A large
number of patients visit the hospital every day. Being one of the most popular and a leader in
the country, they cannot stop their day-to-day working while implementing these changes.
Recommendations for action steps
In order to address these challenges, a health care administrator would need to
communicate with the staffs and administrators of the organization. An open communication
channel between the authority, management and the workers needs to be established. The
staffs need to be informed about the changes and what improvement it will make to them, the
organization and the patients that they care for. A detailed discussion with the trustees and the
board member will solve the funding problem.
