1. Describe the importance of the following characteristics that enable an EN to
develop therapeutic relationships with patients
Trust and Confidentiality:
Trust and confidentiality are the results of effective communication and
interpersonal relationship. Trust is the significant value that the nurse should
possess in nursing practice.
Confidentiality is the basic quality of the therapeutic relationship. The nurse
should ensure that the patient information is confidential which builds the trust
between the patient and nurse
Confidentiality:
Confidentiality is the fundamental quality of the therapeutic relationship which
builds trust between nurse and patient. Confidentiality is the basic right of the
patient. Confidentiality has to be maintained by all health professionals to build
trust.
Self-reflection:
Self-reflection is an essential part of nursing practice which enables the nurse to
handle the difficulties and improves the knowledge and skill. Self –reflection can
promote the learning outcomes of the nurses in nursing practice. It also
improves the self –confidence to solve problems efficiently.
Social conversation:
Social conversation is an effective way of communicating with patients. The
nurse has to communicate with the patient abiding the social manner and social
values. Social conversation is an effective way to build a therapeutic relationship
with the patient.

Respect- the essential professional value that a nurse should possess
when she cares for a person with a disability.
Person-centered nursing- It improves the physical and mental health
of the person and prevents complications.

Advocacy- is the basic quality the nurse which improves the services
in a beneficial way
Collaboration- The nurse must collaborate with the volunteers from
the community services to build a healthy nation.
3. What does the documentation of clinical handover contain?
Documentation is a vital part of the nursing practice. It is the tool of
communication which helps the inflow of information. Documentation of
the clinical hand over contains the information of the nurses involved in
the handover process (Pascoe,2014).Other information is the time and
date of hand over and the information shared through oral communication
during hand over.
4. Outline why each of the following is an essential element of communication
with patients, family, and colleagues:
Effective communication is essential to maintain therapeutic relationship
with the patient. Professional relationship improves the relationship with
colleagues. Listening, trust, honesty, confidentiality, respect are the
essential elemental of communication with the patients, family, and
colleagues.

Information technology is the communication tool of the new millennium. It has to
be used in the Medical field to pass on the information of patient, investigation,
organ donation, blood donation, information’s about health professionals and for
emergency need (Macdonald, 2016).

Professional email etiquette is written communication made between
professionals with respect and dignity.
