2HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Introduction Human resource department plays an effective role in influencing the organizational performance(BrattonandGold2017).TheHRMfocusesonintroducingthetraditional techniques for motivating employees, so that the organizational goals can be achieved in the right manner. However, in the current situation, due to improper management decisions, the overall performance of the company as well as human resource management process is getting hampered. In this study, the organization namely Qantas has been highlighted. In the year 1920, QantaswasintroducedinQueenslandasthelargestinternationalanddomesticairline (Qantas.com 2018). With its large transportation business, the company has grabbed large numbers of customers’ attention.The purpose of this study is to highlight the key influencing components in the organization that create an impact on the human resource management process. Key influences and its impact on HRM process Stakeholders In the year 2017, Qantas contributed 0.6% in Australian economy with the numbers of 26150 employees. In the case of Qantas, it has been identified that with increasing management related issues in the workplace, the company has sacked near about 1000 employees in 2013 (Abc.net.au 2018). As its result, dissatisfaction among the employees has been increased, which has influenced the service standard in the organization. Union has blamed the outsourcing process of the company. Unions have takenscaremongering tactics, which has influenced the management functions of the company. Legal framework
3HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT With increasing business issues in the workplace, it has become very important to follow the legal frameworks like Minimum employment standards, Minimum wage rates, reward, recognition and employment laws in the workplace.Analyzing the issue in Qantas, it has been identified that proper employment standard has not been maintained in the workplace. Due to not following the employment laws, the management discouraged the other employees. Impact of legal framework and stakeholders in development It is true that Qantas is a popular airline organization in Australia, which has become a global brand in the current scenario. However, due to improper stakeholder management and employee turnover, the development process of the company has got affected. Although the company has introduced strong organizational culture in the workplace, but after thee financial loss it has sacked large number of employees without following the leagal process. In this case the brand reputation of the company has got affected, which has impacted on the development process. Social factor Analyzing the work culture in Qantas, it has been identified that it has created a performance culture for getting high performance employees (Qantas.com 2018). The hardest part in the job pattern in Qantas is its shift working pattern, which influences the sleeping pattern. However, it is true that management in Qantas is understanding and polite. Ethics and corporate social responsibilities Analyzing the ethical responsibilities of Qantas, it has been identified that the company follows non-negotiable ethical principles. Passengers’ safety is the first priority of the company. In order to maintain the ethical standard, Honesty and integrity are being maintained by the company (Qantas.com 2018). It is also true that the company is committed with the fair and true financial reporting. Qantas has committed in reducing the emission and maintaining sustainability. Analyzing different social initiatives of Qantas, it has been identified that in the year 2010, 1.5% fuel efficiency has been improved by the company. The aim of the company is to reduce its net emissions over 2005 levels within 2050 (Qantas.com 2018). Impact of ethics and social responsibilities in Acquisition As the company tries to maintain the ethical standard and social responsibilities in the workplace, in that case, it can be assumed that it can help the company to explore the effect of acquiring. It is true that depending on the corporate ethics, the merger friendly takeovers can be done effectively. Impact of technology in maintenance It is also true that technological advancement in Qantas has influenced the net losses of 400 maintenance or engineering positions as the new technological innovation does not need much maintenance force (Blogs.crikey.com.au 2018). However it is also true that by introducing fully automated services, maintenance standard in the company has got effected. Economic In the words ofJackson, Schuler and Jiang (2014),the economic situation in an organization has higher level of impact on the management functions. It has been identified that the value of international fleets decreased $2.6 billion due to inappropriate financial decisions. Impact of economy in Development: It is true that the economic and technological factors in the company, highly impacts on the development process. Depending on the economic situation in the organization the business revenue and market share of the company get influenced as large numbers of stakeholders refused to incest in the company after the loss of $2.6 billion. Due to increasing employee turnover, the existing employees got demotivated, which has delayed the development process. Increasing complains from the unions; the company has lost its brand popularity. As its result, candidates denied joining in this sector, which impacts on the recruitment process of HRM.
6HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Conclusion In can be concluded in this study that the role of human resource management is very important for managing business operations in an organization. Analyzing the situation of Qantas, it can be said that the company has faced various challenges, due to improper management decisions. The company has faced various human resource management related difficulties. Analyzing the key influencing factors in case of driving different business issues in the organization, it can be said that the company needs to focus on improving the Human resource practices, so that such issues can be solved.
