This report is based on Marks &Spencer, it is the leading British retailer havingheadquarters is Westminster, London, UK. It deals in selling effective quality of home products,food products and clothings. This report covers the function and purpose of HRM, approaches torecruitment and selection with its strengths and weaknesses, effectiveness and benefits of humanresource management practices, key elements of employment legislation. Apart from this,application of HRM practices in a work-related context are also discussed in this report. TASK 1P1: Human resource management is defined as the system that concentrates upon developingthe individuals and also the managing person so that people will enjoy human dignity in itsemployment. Hard and soft model of HRMHard human resource management is considered as the model of employment where staffare viewed as a resources which have to be controlled for attaining more competitive advantageas well as profitability. The soft human resource management is defined as the model whichemphasises people as well as its self direction, trust and others at centre of any strategic approachto person. So, Within M&S, their manager comply the soft human resource management as theytreat their employees as the most essential resources because they focused towards staff training,motivation and so on. Workforce planning: Workforce planning is defined as the continuous procedures that is utilised byorganisation to relate the priorities as well as requirements of business with their personnel toassure that they can able to accomplish their regulatory, legislative and others goals (Baum,2015).
