Persuasive essay, theory and research to make the case that investment in HRM does
indeed have positive effects on organisational performance.
INTRODUCTION
Human Resources department is the backbone of each and every company and employees
are heart of the organisation. HRM resource is the term that are used to describe formal system
devised for the management of people within company (Armstrong, & Taylor, 2014). It is the
process of recruiting, selecting, inducting employees, render orientation, organizing training and
development, appraisals for performance and providing benefits. In this present report,
Woolworths company of Australia will be chosen which was founded in 1924. Its headquarters
are located in Bella Vista, New South Wales, Australia. More than 1,11,000 people are employed
in Woolworths company and its revenue is $42.132 billion. This present report makes understand
the actual meaning and concept of Human Resource. This essay will also depict the fact that
investment in HRM has positive impact on the performance of company by explaining various
facts.
MAIN BODY
The division of human resource in company is the most important and crucial department
of each and every organisation. Woolworths company has also given extra focus on human
resource department as without employees none of the work in organisation can be
accomplished. Entire organisation functions and operation is depended on human resource
department of company (Collings, & et.al., 2018). IT is the lifeblood of company as no one can
prove this wrong that employees are not important. Recruiting, managing and directing people is
the fundamental function of human resource management. All the issues that arises within
company is also solved by the human resource department. On the other hand, training and
development programmes, safety, benefits, motivation of employees all other functions are done
by human resource management. They play strategic role in managing people as well as the
environment and culture at workplace. In the execution and achievements of goals and objectives
it is very important that company should appropriate invest for effective and efficient human
resource department because investment in HRM indeed have positive impact on company's

performance. Woolworths company is also contributing appreciable amount of fund in human
resource department.
Here are importance and functions of HRM that proves that a great and efficient
practices of human resource as well as a good investment of company leads to positive impact on
company’s functions and operations are as follows-
Recruitment and Selection- This is the one of the fundamental and most important
function of human resource management of company. The long term goals of business can be
achieved by effective recruitment of company. Candidate required should be cleared by human
resource department of company to fill the vacant post. They take measures to fill the vacancies.
However, it is very lengthy procedure as there are lots of activities are attached like advertising,
sourcing potential candidates, application screening, conducting interview but it is the primary
function of HR.
Recruitment process has its greatest importance in organisation because if employees are
not assigned for the particular post than it is not possible that company can achieve its goals and
objectives (Bratton, & Gold, 2017). If human resource management is not there or effective than
it is not possible to perform function in an effective manner as only they have the trick and
knowledge to select or hire the best candidate. This is the functions that HR manager has to
perform in an effective manner as because if this function is not executed in effective manner
than company cannot able to run smoothly. The Human resource management of Woolworths
company is very effective as their recruitment and selection process are very efficient. Company
is also making good investment in recruitment and selection like they use modern media for
advertising the job, they also make contract with employment exchange firm where company can
get skilled employees. Thus, Woolworths organisation make enough investment of fund on
human resource management in order to have positive impact on company's performance.
Management of training and development- This is one of the most essential function of
human resource manager to prove that company should make optimum contribution in training
and development programmes of organization. It is the duty of HR manager that they should
organize effective training and development programmes for worker. So that employees’ skills
and knowledge is increased and if their performance will rise than it will surely boost the
productivity of organisation and leads to positive impact on organisation position and
performance. Management should provide effective training for managers of company. It is
