Introduction
Superdrug is a UK based company that provides health and beauty related products to a wide
range of customers in the market. The company has a retail model and has is partnering up
with a Nigerian company to expand its business operations. This report has been prepared to
gain a deeper insight into the performance management strategies that can be used by
Superdrug to successfully manage employee performance during its joint venture with the
new company. Further, the report also discusses certain strategies that will help the company
in engaging its employees. Lastly, the report will also discuss some strategies that will allow
Superdrug in managing its workplace changes.
Performance Management at Superdrug
Performance management is an important part of human resource management at Superdrug
and the company has already implemented a number of policies in the field of performance
management (Noe, et al., 2017). Some of the performance management strategies
implemented by Superdrug are discussed below;
- At Superdrug, performance management is carried out on a quarterly basis, which
means that the performance of the employees is assessed and rewarded after every
three months.
- The target given to the employees are developed on the basis of their achievements
- The company promotes training and development of its employees and also
encourages them to go for Aspire programs
- Performance management at Superdrug consist of performance appraisals and
rewards as well.
Through its engagement and performance management strategies, Superdrug has been able to
create a positive work environment and achieve an overall increase in the productivity. The
company has set aside a huge budget to improve its stores and has registered a pre-tax profit
of £92.9 million while there has also been an increase of around 2.5% in its sales.
Since the company is going in for a joint venture with a Nigerian firm, it will have to make
amendments to its existing human resource management strategies and policies in order to
