INTRODUCTION
Human resource management is the strategic approach to effectual management of
people in organization, so that they support the business achieve competitive advantages. HR
department is planned to maximize worker's performance in service of employee objectives.
HRM is concerned with motivating, hiring and maintaining employees within businesses. The
present report is based on Squire's Garden centers which is located in UK. This is a family
owned business that give their services to local community.
This report will explain about purpose of Human resource function and their importance
in organization and also discuss benefits and disadvantage of recent recruitment and selection
methods that compare with the other one (Brewster and et.al., 2016). In this study justify job
description and person specification and recommendation for appropriate vacancy. Furthermore,
this report also evaluate the benefits of Squire's and explain development opportunities to
employees in organization. In addition to this, the present study also clarifies employees’
engagement and their importance and recommend for engaging employee within company. It
also explains UK employment legislation impact on human resource decision making process.
TASK 1
a) Purpose and importance of HR functions
Human resource department is the department which handles a various functions in an
organisation and human resource functions has got various purposes within an organisation.
Staffing- Human resource has to handle many issues in an organisation which are related
to staffing, performance management, compensation, training and development etc all these
come under the functions of HR. Purpose of HR function in an organisation is to manage the
people strategically which also includes recruitment and selecting of the new employees in an
organisation. This is very much important function of HR whose purpose is to staff right
candidate, at right post and at right time as well.
Training and development- After hiring the employees then coordinating with the
employees and provide training and development programs for effective performance of the
employees in an organisation (Tracey, 2016). A purpose of HR function is to maintain the
balance between the employees and management in Squire's Garden Centres. HR is to help in a
recruitment and selection process Squires Garden by providing potential and qualified candidates

to the organisation. It purposes is to maintain good working conditions and to manage the
employee relations in an organisation.

Recruitment and selection- HR functions have great importance for Squire's Garden
without HR functions an organisation would not be able to meet their goals of recruitment and
selection process (Rabin, 2018). HR functions help an organisation in providing a required
candidates for the right job at right place. It is the function of the HR to deal with number of
problems and issues such as employees management, need of training and development in an
organisation, provide compensation, helps in motivating the employees, handling employees
grievances recruitment and selection etc. So without proper HR functions Squire's Garden will
not be able to function smoothly. Thus HR functions are a backbone of Squire's Garden as it
helps in meeting in achieving business objectives.
HR officers can become an employer of choice by fulfilling the staffing need in an
organisation. Which can be done by selecting effective and potential candidates for the
organisation (Islam, 2018). HR officer plan is to make the proper recruitment and selection
process which will help in selecting required candidates and should be able to deal with
problems of recruitment process effectively. HR should frame a proper planning for recruitment
and section, effective training and development programs and performance measurements which
will help HR officer to become employer of the choice for Squire's Garden.

At present Squire garden is following specified recruitment and selection process which
includes like that of advertising on website and local newspaper. So following are the advantages
and disadvantages of current recruitment and selection process of Squire's Garden are:
Advantages:
As Squire's Garden is advertising its vacancies through its website and local newspapers
it will help in attracting those candidates which are familiar with the organisation.
Answering a series of questions will help in choosing the eligible candidates for the
organisation.
