INTRODUCTION
Human Resource Management is the very well known name for each and every
organisation in order to operate all the business activities or functions effectively. This is also the
practice which includes in hiring, selecting, vetting employees in an appropriate manner. HRM is
also responsible for manage the company works and employees who are working in the
company. This present report is based on Sainsbury's company which is the third largest
supermarket chain in the UK. It was established in the year of 1869 by John James Sainsbury.
Further discussion will be made on HRM concept with its functions and purpose. Along with this
benefits or drawbacks. Lastly, lot of explanation of HRM like how it can be used in workforce in
context of HR officer in Sainsbury (Marchington, and et. al., 2016).

1. Justification the function and purpose of HRM, applicable to workforce planning and
resourcing an organisation.
HRM is an essential approach in order to selecting and hiring high skilled people or an
individual for the company to operate and manage their function of business properly. HRM is
mainly concerned about the controlling, directing and leading the human resources by training
and development programmes and provide benefits or rewards in order to increase employees
working performance efficiently. There are various functions which mainly performed by the
department of HRM with in the organisation in order to running business smoothly. Functions
are given below:
Recruitment and Selection: This is very unique function of HRM which is always used
to select or hire specific candidate for company. Recruitment function is always determine the
best knowledge-based person at right place for a specific job role. Whereas, selection defines the
choosing right person for the good position effectively. In reference to the Sainsbury's this
process will be more beneficial for them because by this HR of an organisation can easily select
or recruit the individuals effectively (Banfield, Kay and Royles, 2018).
Training and Development: This is also the unique function of HRM that helps in
providing different training and developing programmes to the staff members and employees so
that they can learn so many new things and able to give unique idea to the organisation
effectively. By this function employees or team members can get highly motivated and also can
