INTRODUCTION
The human resource management plays an important role for the success and growth of
business organisation. In addition to this, it is the tactical approach which is adopted for the suitable
management of person in order to achieve competitive advantage over rival firm at workplace. The
main purpose is to recruit and select the talented as well as competent employees in order to
increase the performance level within company. Apart from this, the manager provide good working
environment in order to retain them for a long period of time. This report is carried upon the
company named as TESCO. In context of TESCO, it is the popular chain of supermarket which is
located in UK. The manager focuses on providing positive atmosphere to its employees in order to
satisfy them. It motivate subordinate to increase their performance for achieving competitive
benefits at marketplace.

Human resource management is a tactical method to administer person as well as work
culture. It signifies recruiting, influencing, managing the people in the business organisation.

Therefore, it is necessary to manage human resource in an effective manner in order to achieve goal
and objective of business organisation. In reference of TESCO, the function and purpose of HRM
which is necessary for workforce planning that is going to be mentioned below:
Functions of HRM
Managerial Function: The managerial functions include planning, organising, directing as
well as controlling the task and activities of business organisation in an effective manner. It is
necessary to plan, organise the work structure, directing the employees as well as controlling the
functions and activities which is performed in an organisation. In context of TESCO, the manager
emphasised on comparing the desired plan with actual plan and find the deviation, if any. In
addition to this, they motivate employees in order to accomplish the vision and mission of the
company in an appropriate manner. (Azeem, 2016).
Operative Function: Herein, the main purpose of manager is to recruit and select talented
candidate according to the requirement of job (Haque,2019). Therefore, it is necessary to analyse
the skill, knowledge as well as qualification which is necessary to execute the job in an effective
manner. In reference of TESCO, the HR professional focuses on recruiting and selecting the best
one from available candidates. Apart from this, they conduct training session in order to increase
their performance level in order to achieve the goal and objective of business organisation in an
effective manner. And also the manager offer rewards and incentives to its employees based on their
good performance at workplace (Bhardwaj, 2020).
Advisory Function: Human resource management is proficient in handling human resource
so that they provide suggestions on matter allied to human resource of the business organisation. In
discourse to TESCO, the human resource management give their opinion to high authority in order
to formulate the policies, programs as well as procedures. It helps in increasing the success and
growth of the company in future period of time. Also, they perform the functions of HRM in such a
manner which is used in workforce planning as well as resources of the business organisation.
Purpose of HRM
The main purpose of HRM is to recruit and select the talented employees in order to boost
productivity as well as profitability of the company.
