Both firewalls and Intrusion Detection System (IDS) relate to the network
security, however IDS is not same as firewall and firewall searches for intrusions
outwardly in order for stopping them in taking place. Access is limited by the
firewalls among the networks for preventing intrusion and an attack is not signaled
from inside of the network. Suspected intrusion is evaluated by IDS once this takes
place and alarm is signaled. IDS watches for attacks also which originate from the
system. It is achieved traditionally by examination of the network communications,
identify patterns and heuristics of the common attacks of computer and take action
in alerting the operations (Liu-Rong, Mei & Zhong, 2015). System which terminates
the connections is termed as intrusion detection system as well as is other form for
firewall’s application layer.
There are both pros and cons for each security device and the firewalls are
also same. If strict mechanisms for defense are applied inside the network for
protecting this from the breach, then this could be possible the legitimate
communication might malfunction or whether overall protocol is applied into the
network, then this could be hacked easily by the malicious users (Hock & Kortiš,
2015). Hence, a balance should be maintained among loosely coupled and strictly
coupled functionalities.
Role of both IDS and firewall are to protect corporate network. Four major
kinds of firewalls are there: application gateways, gateways of circuit level, packet
filters as well as other firewalls. Though few predicted that end of firewall within
network is indispensable tool to protect assets. IDS could be purely configured as
