Introduction
The significant definition of events is not known to anyone in this world. Any activity that brings
fun and frolic to many people can be termed as a events. There are thousands of events held in a
particular year all around the world. Some events have global reach while other events have a
local affect. Events like Olympics gather people all around the world. Events are economically
healthy. A particular area can benefit financially from the events held in that particular place.
In this assignment, the impact of the events on tourism will be discussed. The other aspects
which will be discussed are what are the techniques that get involved in the planning of the
events. The social, economic and the environmental effect of the events will also be discussed.

Events not only bring fun and frolic to a particular area but also bring revenues. All the revenues
gathered helps in the economic development of a place. All around the world there are thousands
of events that take place all around the year. World-renowned events gather thousands of
tourists. Events do not have a universal definition (Gibson and Connell, 2016). The vibe of any
event can be local or global. The events, which are held in the globe, can be divided into
categories. Some events are held once in a year while others can be held twice or thrice in a
particular year. Some events have relational approach while others do emit a sense of fun and
frolic (Clarke, 2016) There are some cultural, corporate and social goals of every event. Events
can be categorized in the following categories:
 Mega events
 Hallmark events
 Major events
 Local events
The gathered tourists might buy the products which helps in the economic growth of that
particular area. Events have affected global tourism in a huge way (Richards, 2017).
A natural system of a place refers to the soil, climate and weather of a certain place. Many a
times it has been seen that the natural systems of a place get affected when events are held. In the
events, people come from all around the world. These people might come up with activities that
affect the natural system. People visiting the area of the events might dirty the place, which
might affect the soil quality. This particular damage might have some changes in the weather of
that certain place (Festival, 2018). The local people staying should ask the tourists to keep the
area clean and green. The local communities with the help of the local government can manage
the events in such a way that the area does not get affected in any way.

In modern culture festivals became the significant tool for the sake of the economic development
for both the case of re-branding and re-imaging of various cities. It is very important to know the
historical and geographical context of a particular event to understand the impact and challenges
of festivals.
Events help a local community and the natural system in a variety of ways. Events have a
significant effect on the promotion and branding of local communities. Local communities may
have some handicraft products, which it manufactures exclusively. Events held in that particular
area can help in gathering of tourists (Getz, 2017).
Durga puja is the time when the streets of the Kolkata dress up in a way of an eighteen year old
girl. This particular festival of Bengal gives a huge opportunity for the economical development
of the people to each class of people. The major reason after this is during the time of this
particular festival a huge number of mass buys products and goods which starts from new clothes
to accessories, the demand of food becomes way more than usual. The cause of this is a large
number of people comes from outside to see the Durga puja festival of West Bengal on every
year basis (Getz, 2016). This is why during this time the price of the transport also increases
apart from the government transport. The local lower middle class people use this opportunity to
earn. In a audit study by the West Bengal government of 2015 it is proved that this particular
festival actually helps to develop 7.8% development of the entire region.

The involvement of the public sector in the festivals adds consideration of return on investment,
social equity, psychic benefits, market failure of arguments and public goods. It is proclaimed
that both the impact and worth of an event should have the evaluation with the triple-bottom
approach. Each of the three dimensions of TBL depends on the factor of economical, socio
cultural and environmental prospects. There are few things which is suggested for the sake of the

There are other planning techniques such as events and paradigm shifts of the festivals and
institutionalization. There is huge issue of considerable importance that is to what extend a

fulfilling all the social and cultural issues. There is another factor on which the sustainability
depends on, that is tangible and the political support of all the stakeholders. The management
strategies are related to the stakeholders of the festivals (Miller e al., 2015). The long-term
sustainability of festival managers directs the importance of giving an attaining the status of the
‘niche’ in a community. The community and sustaining committed stake holders and practicing
of the constant innovation in the way of making the festival work.

The ability to examine the impacts of festival and events
Festival and events make a huge impact in our society’s social life. A lot of festivals andevents
takes place around the world every year. Olympic being one of them an Olympic game takes
place every after 6 years in different country. Over 190 countries take participate in this event.
The qualification of playing in Olympic is very low. Only hand full of people get elected to play
in the Olympic. Originally the summer Olympic were budgeted at around 12 billion us dollar in
2008 Olympic the overall budget was 44 billion dollars. Local business in this time can be seen
making more money than usual.People all around the world come to this event. Every player
from all around the world comes to represent their respective country. Everything in the
beginning looks so colourful but after the Olympic events the building gets left alone and unused
by the government which ultimately creates a big problem to the country (Hudson,
Roth,Madden,and Hudson 2015).
Every religion has different festivals which they follow dearly. Every cast every religion come
forward to celebrate their festival once or twice in a year for example Christmas for Christian,
Yom Kippur for Jewish, Durga puja for Hindu. Durga puja takes place all over the India but
mainly celebrated in Kolkata West Bengal. This festival goes on for 10 to 15 days in the city of
Kolkata where new street food stalls can be seen decorated roads, building, gardens and many
others. Lase of clothes can be seen during these times. Thousands of People can be seen on the
streets even during the night they wear colourful dresses during this time. The city can be seen
standing still just to celebrate the Durga puja. Over 4000 god’s statues gets placed in all over the
city for people to visit (Nakatani, 2015.)

This report gives a overall idea about what impact tourism and hospitality makes on event and
festival. This report also shows what impacts are made on the local community. Managing of
these events and festively can get better with experience. Appropriate plaining and management
is required to host these events. The punctuality and creativity is very important.
