INTRODUCTION
Currently ,health and social care is very important for every person. Every person wants
to remain fit and healthy. So for it ,it is necessary for health professional that he should have all
equipment that are necessary for providing the best services to the individual and he should also
understand the requirements of the individual. In today time ,technology is upgrading and
provides the best services to the individual so that they can remain fit and healthy (Moule and
Hek, 2011). This project is based on SHARP team [Social inclusion ,Hope And Recovery Project
] that is a community based team that conducts healthy living programme and social programme
that helps the individual in remain fit. This report will explains concept of health ,illness or
disability and how perception is changing today related to the health and social care and impact
of legislation or rules on these services and currently what are the system available that full fills
the needs of the individuals.
TASK 1
1.1 Concept of illness ,disability ,health and behaviour
Health means the fitness of a individual in terms of physical fitness ,mental and social
status. It has been defined as a status of happy and comfort.
Illness – According to WHO “It means the temporary defect or temporary poor condition
of the health ,mental or social health of a person.” When a person is affected by some diseases
then it is known as illness. For example - In the given scenario ,there is a old man. Suddenly his
blood pressure becomes high and have mental illness, it is a temporary defect to the old man so it
is known as illness. Social and health care workers help the person in preventing this illness by
using their knowledge and skills.
Disability – it refers to health condition or physical impairment that prevents the
individuals in living the normal life. It has two types of disabilities which is permanent disability
or temporary disability. In permanent disability ,person can not work in in their whole life while
in temporary disability , person can work after some time (World Health Organization, 2012). So
social and health care workers should have the proper knowledge about this disability so that he
can help the affected person. For example – Mr. Benjamin have diabetes that is a disability
because in this person can not live his normal life.

Behaviour- Every person have different behaviour. In the society ,there are many
behaviour issues that are concerned with health and social care. If any person' behaviour is
changing then it's result may be mental sickness ,depression etc. and many people may take
advantages of this situation by abusing them. So in this situation ,health and social care workers
should have knowledge how to deal in this situation (Munn-Giddings and Winter, 2013).
All these factors are interrelated with each other in order to provide appropriate treatment
t to their. It can increases the market growth of that organisation. For every service provider, it
must have to they have to take care about clients healths, behaviour, disability and illness.
Medical model is used in psychology ,that indicates about the abnormal behaviour and
physical problems and should be treated medically. Sometimes it arises because of brain injury.
According to this model disability is a medical model by which illness or disability the result of a
physical condition intrinsic to the individual. Because of this individual life may reduce and
cause clear disadvantages to the individual. This model is also known as individual model.
According to the social model ,disability is caused by the way society is organised rather
than by a person's impairment or difference. It looks at ways of removing barriers that restrict
life choices for disabled person. It is helpful in removing the restrictions from the life of
individual who have disability. When disability has finished then disabled person becomes
independent and be able to control their life.
A professional of health care should have knowledge about all these problems so that he
can deal with these problems. Mr. Benjamin who have mental illness that will be included in the
illness because it is a temporary defect or condition of him and cerebral palsy will be included
temporary disabilities.
1.2 How perception of specific needs have changed over time
Perception is a process by which people translate sensory impressions into a coherent
unified view of the world around them. It also includes how individual respond to the
information and he is respond to the environment. It allows the individual to take the sensory
information in and make it into something meaningful.
In earlier time ,no one have any knowledge about health and social care and they didn't
take any load about their health but now a days every person is conscious about their health and
social care and their perception is totally changed about illness ,disability ,and health as a result
of integrated and advanced changes in the health sector. At this time ,disability can be occurred

in many forms so health care sectors has aim to provide the best services to the affected person at
reasonable price that they can afford it. For understanding the changing perception related to
health and social care , the term intellectual disability and normality should be known by
everyone.
In intellectual disability ,people loose their intelligence skills and physiological ability
that helps in day to day function. It may be occur because of interference in normal brain
development. Mr. Benjamin who is a old men is taking the services from health profession. It
can be seen here that now perception related to the health and social care is changing rapidly and
today everyone is conscious about their health. There are so many challenges and issues face by
the employees of health and social care centres so as they have to manages their behaviour with
customers and build healthy relationships with them. Along with this, the perception towards
disabilities affects many cultures and phenomena of health and social care centres.
Poor Law Act was passed by parliament of united kingdom. This law is designed to
reduce the cost of looking after the poor as it stopped money going to poor people except in
exceptional cases. This law protects the poor from the rich men or from exploitation that are
done by rich men. This law provides all right to poor.
Disabilities Discrimination act protects the patient from discrimination that are done on
the basis of discrimination.
1.3 Impact of legislation ,social policy ,culture in the way that services are made available
In UK ,there are many rules and legislation of the government related to the health and
social care that protects the right of people with disability. These rules are amended according to
the needs of the person that result is that services are become cheaper so that everyone can afford
this services. These act includes Disability Discrimination Act ,Equity Act 2006 , Special
Educational Needs and Disability Act 2001 and so on. These acts protects the right of disable
person from discrimination. It says that there should be no discrimination on the basis of
disability and educational institution has made rules that every child have right to take education
whether he/ she is a normal child or are suffering from disabilities as stated in 28A section of
Disability Discrimination Act (Kirmayer and et.al., 2011).
In health and social care ,rules are implemented time to time for developing this sector or
service. And currently a rule is implemented for ensuring that every child should get the equal
right or opportunities. In UK there are community that take care of disable person and ensures

that they are getting proper care or right from the professional. So legislation ,society policy or
culture is very helpful in this sector because it helps in providing the best services to the disable
person.
Health and social care centres have to follows all rules and legislations of country. In
that, their employees don't have any right to hurt the feelings and emotions of patients. They
have to work accordingly the religions and beliefs of their customers. Background, culture and
past experience of care-takers also effect the decision making process of organisation. So as
managers have to implement effective and open communication among these care centres.
There are many law related to health and social care which are as follows -
 Care Standard Act 2000 – This act has established a new system that will inspect the
standard of services that are provided by care taker. Its main objective is to improve the
standard of health and social care sector.
 Mental Health Act – This act is applied when patient are admitted ,detained or treated
against their wish. It is also known as being sectioned.
 Mental Capacity act – This act protects the individual who have lack of mental capacity
to make their own decision and it provides proper care and treatment.
 Data Protection Act – This act protects the personal data that is stored in computers
from hackers or crackers.

2.1 Analyse care needs of individual with specific needs
Mrs. Sarah is a old women that have many problems like she is partially deaf and blind
and have no proper communication skills and so on. This lady has requirement of some caring
and treatment from the professional that have knowledge and skills to solve these problems. Any
one can take services from the professional of health and social care (England and et.al., 2012) .
In this situation ,SHARP team is very helpful in providing the services to the resident of UK.
Mrs Sarah has some problems that requires some specific attention from the professional.
Health and social care workers have responsibility to clearly know about the problems and give
recommendation to her so that she can improve herself. And after that, they should create the
person centred approach that is explained in the nursing code of conduct. And next that ,all
necessary drugs or recommendation should be given to that lady.

Nursing staff should support that lady so that she can feel happy and don't take any
depression .This result will be that her condition will be improved. An ill individual has so may
problems and issues, so as they are not able to do proper communication with their doctors, due
to this they aren't provide a well being treatments to their patients. They also have to implement
some effective tools and techniques by which doctors can easily understands the feelings and
emotions of an individual's.
Care need is very important for the patient because if patient will not get need and care
then there will be no improvement in their condition. In the given case Mr. Benjamin have
mental illness if care taker will not take care of him then his condition will not be improved that
may result that he will died or may harm to anyone who are around him.
2.2 Current system for supporting individual with specific needs
The health and social care services is beneficial for affected person as well as for service
provider. In today time there are more system that are available for supporting individual with
specific needs which are as follows -
 At this time ,Government is supporting the affected people by making new policies and
strategies that have to follow by every service provider as well as the affected individual.
It is done for for promoting health among the people (Reeves and et.al., 2011).
 Community engagement strategy is very helpful in supporting the individual with
specific needs. It has objective to improve the health status of every one and evaluates
that there is no discrimination on the basis of disability.
 There is a commission that includes many organisation, agencies ,high level of
authority or NGO that have objective to develop the arrangement that will help in
improving not only the well being but also the health communities.
 There is a Health Promotion Strategic Framework Model which is the first national
framework that have aim to improve the health and well being of people. This model has
some approaches which are as follows-
◦ Development of multi sectoral approaches for removing the inequalities.
◦ Increase the health and social promotion activities (Thoits, 2011).
◦ Increase the improvements in the protection and promotion of health among people.
◦ Increase the capacity of the organisation that will help in improving the health in the
society.

2.3 Evaluate the services available in the chosen locality
There are many services that are provided by an professional for improving the health of
affected person. For example – The SHARP team which has provided the services to Mrs. Sarah
or Mr. Benjamin that result is that they feel the improvements in their health. There are many
services that an health and social care workers provides to the society which are as follows-
 Safeguarding - It is very important aspect to the council. They provides the suggestion
or recommendation so that affected people get well soon. It provides the advice after
seeing the situation of the individual and their family. So it provides the safeguarding to
the people.
 Blue badges – The SHARP team also provides this services to it's clients. In this it gives
the concession to free parking and less restrictive parking permits so that disable person
have not face any problem and can reach to every place of the building without incur
extra amount (Mattocks and et.al., 2014).
 Care facility – It includes medical services such as to evaluate the condition of person
before doing any treatment of them. They helps in improving the condition of the
employees.
 Legal services – The SHARP team also provides the legal services through reporting of
abusive cases to relevant authority so that victims can get justice.
Health and social practitioner should have full knowledge about the disease that MR.
Sarah have. For taking care of an individual ,health and social care have full knowledge about
the following things -
 He should know how to deal with this problems.
 His communication skill should be good so that he can easily deal with the problems.
 He should know about all medicine that will help in improving the conditions.
 It should be a motivator so that he can motivate the patient in taking care of his health.

to take care of its patients and clients. He has to maintain healthy and positive relationship with
their clients so as they can easily knows their problems and issues. This will helps in providing
better services to customers in that service provider has to also take care about customers values

Mrs. shah. They should have to give her special treatmentt and provide them all necessary
facilities.

3.1 Approaches and intervention available to support individuals
There are different different approaches and intervention that are available for supporting
the individual with specific needs. This has objective to identifying the support of individual
with specific needs (Korda and Itani, 2013). This approaches have objective to bring the all care
workers like doctors ,voluntary organisation etc. and collaborative work that will help the
disabled person for living normal and meaningful life. These organisation implements a system
or strategies that helps in achieving the desired result. Approaches are as follows-
 Evidence based practise - In this ,affected person receives the services from the
provider. This approach helps in providing the integrated scientific services or better
quality of services and provides the proof to the clients.
 Self -help- approach – In this approach individual with specific needs are supported to
help by themselves. For example – In SHARP team, patient is said to known , if they can
then can pick any services in their choice.
 Advocacy approach – This approach is helpful in legal cases. It helps the individual by
reporting of abusive to the police that will help in getting the justice and all equal rights.
This approaches helps the disabled person in getting the equal rights and development of
them.
There are many intervention that helps in developing the individual with specific needs.
For example -
 Medical therapies –In this individual get treatment according to their prevailing
condition or problems or needs. So as they can get appropriate treatment and it also
increases effective communication among customers with their service providers.
 Communication intervention – Communication is very important aspect in every place.
Patient and service provider should communicate with each other so that they can
understand the problems (Thielke and et.al., 2012). It helps in developing healthy and

well being relationship among doctors with their customers so as they can easily
identifies their problems and health issues.
 Educational intervention – It also plays an important role in health and social care
sectors because it provides the information or ideas how to deal with any health issues so
that it can improve the efficiency of the person. Every professional should have the
knowledge how to deal with the problems of patients.
 Vocational intervention – It is helpful in increasing the self sufficiency so that they can
become dependent person and can live their own life in their own motion or can improve
it's daily life. It also helps the people to acquire the adequate knowledge about the
prevailing condition or situation so that they can know how to improve his own life and
can live better life (Kuo, Frick and Minkovitz, 2011).
3.2 Effectiveness of intervention strategies for an individual
All intervention strategies is helpful in developing the individual and is able to reduce the
existing problems of individual.
 Medical intervention – It is very helpful in controlling the prevailing condition or
problems of individual. Mrs. Sarah have dual problems which is deaf and blind if
professional will provide medical therapies then it will help in removing this deficiencies.
So while implementing this intervention strategies ,care worker should evaluate the
existing problems. Medical interventions involves effective and new techniques of
problem solving by implementing them managers can easily identifies actual and
accurate problems of their patients,.
 Psychological care – The staff of SHARP team should evaluate the condition of the
patient then give the advice or guidance (Kuo, Mac Bird and Tilford, 2011). In Mrs Sarah
case ,professional should evaluate the problems or conditions of her then should give the
necessary drugs or adequate advice that will in removing the deficiencies. This strategy is
more effective when patient will live with their family who supports or cooperate him.
 Communication interventions- For knowing about the problems of patient ,care
workers should communicate with the patient so that he can understand about the
problems and can give proper recommendation and suggestion to the patient.
Communication can be done between care workers or patient as well with agencies. It
can also done with police in the case of abusive case that will help in getting justice.

 Person centred approach is a process that involves listening ,thinking, coaching ,sharing
ideas and seeking feedback.
3.3 Potential impact of emerging developments on individual
In health and social care ,there are many emerging development that affects the
individual with specific needs. There are some points that affects an individual like preferences
versus choice ,rights versus protection of self or others etc. Some policies are so confusing to the
person in which they don't know what to do. There is a Health Promotion Strategic Framework
Model which is the first national framework that have aim to improve the health and well being
of people. This model has some approaches which are as follows-

in preventing the bad practise by the professional or protects that people who are suffering from
mental condition. Other legal development that helps in preventing many cases like rape ,getting
bribe from the patient by care workers etc (Kuo and et.al., 2012).
This efforts are appreciated by the individual with specific needs because these
development help them in getting better services at reasonable prices without any discrimination.
In the society ,there are many agencies that helps the individual by giving donation or fund that
will help the individual in getting better services.
Impact of emerging development to the individual with specific needs -
 Individual can take best services from the service provider with out any discrimination
and will get equal rights.
 It will help in getting the best services at reasonable cost because of development of
legislation.
 Development of legislation ,individual can get justice against the abusive case.

It protects the discrimination on the basis of disabilities and provides equal rights to to them that
are available to the normal person.

4.1 Different concepts of challenging behaviour
Challenging behaviour is that concept that is made by the view of the society. It is also
known as socially unacceptable behaviour and is used in defining the person behaviour with
communication or learning problems. This behaviour is creates challenge for that person who is
providing services like parents ,teacher and so on to the individual with specific need in health
and social care sectors (Health and Social Care. 2017). The behaviour of a person shows that
individual have some problems that need to be sorted out by the professional. According to the
Marmot and Bell “ Challenging behaviour means that when a person has a repeated pattern and
interference in his normal life, with his peers or the society.” This behaviour may be harmful for
that person who is near that individual with specific needs and helping him in improving his
mental conditions or other disabilities. It affects the people negatively.
This behaviour focus on that group who are not similar with each other. For example -
Mr. Patrick who show unfriendly behaviour with other people. If any person have this behaviour
then he will not be able to fight the external factors and that result may be that he or she will not
grew up out from this problem. If any person is having this behaviour then it can not be say that
he have psychiatric disorder. It is occurred in Mr. Patrick by entering into new
environment ,new opening of nursing home etc.
Mr. JC who have also challenging behaviour because he have some mental illness that
result he was behaving aggressively and giving abuse to the care workers.
These behaviour may consider the following things which is given below -
 These person can assault to anyone means he is very harmful for everyone.
 He can do anything whether it is legal or illegal things. He does not think before doing
anything.
 He behaves that can harmful for others as well as for himself.
He can do that things that is harmful to the property etc.

4.2 Potential impact of challenging behaviour on health organisation
Challenging behaviour has many impact on health and social care organisation. Mr.
Patrick have challenging behaviour that may impact his organisation in the following ways
which are as follows-
 It will strain the economic resources of the organisation because if he will behave
aggressively then customers will not come for taking treatment then it will not have any
economic or financial resources (Gruneir, Silver and Rochon, 2011).
 By doing wrong behaviour with staff ,it may loose his trained staff who can provide best
quality of services to the customers in health and social care organisation.
 By carrying out this behaviour , it may loose it's loyal customers.
 By carrying out this behaviour ,to get the attraction of the society and achievement of
goals becomes a challenge full way.
 It may increase the risk such as life critical danger.
 In this situation, professional requires good quality of training that will help the
professional in maintaining good and advanced technology in an organisation that helps
in maintaining the customers (Tracy and et.al., 2013).
So from the above point ,it is clear that challenging behaviour is very harmful for the
organisation as well as for the society because by doing this behaviour by the professional may
harm to the customers while doing treatment.
Mr. JC who have also challenging behaviour because he have some mental illness that
result he was behaving aggressively and giving abuse to the care workers.
4.3 Strategies working with challenging behaviours
For getting successful in the business ,there should be strategies that directs or guides the
company in a right direction. So strategies is very important for every organisation. Mr. Patrick
who have challenging behaviour then his employees should make the strategy that how can it
survive in the society while having the challenging behaviour (HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE .
2017). If the owner have challenging behaviour then employees of him have roles and
responsibilities to work and provide best services to the patients.

Employees should work on existing strategies rather than making the new strategies
because about old strategies ,employees have full knowledge and know how to implement these
strategies and it should provide proper environment to the patient as well as to the carers so that
they can feel happy and good that result may be improvement in the diseases.
Strategies or course of action should be clearly communicated to everyone so that they
can work accordingly and can work with efficient and effective manner and will achieve the
desired result and if anyone is violating the rules then it should take corrective action (Strijk, van
Meijel and Gamel, 2011).
Managing challenging behaviour is very difficult task for every person who are related to
that person who have this person. This person may harm to any person. For dealing with this
situation following risk factors should be considers -
 Depression among the care takers.
 Social separation.
 Physical and verbal aggression etc.
For improving the condition of these patient , health and social care takers can use the following
methods-
 Care taker should provide the trainign to it's employees so that they can deal with
problems.
 They should respect the patient and should ensure that their activities should not hurt the
emotion of patient.
 Care takers should follow all rules and regulations in giving the services and cares to the
patients.
 Government should take initiative to evaluate the process of care takers and should
evaluate that care worker is following the policies and regulation or not.
In model patient ,patient are examined by small hoards of inexperienced students of
medical who have no knowledge about disease ,and varying degrees of innate bedside manner.
Foe dealing this problems ,care taker should provide all knowledge and training so that they can
deal easily with this problems.
Cognitive behaviour theory is a talking therapy that can help you manage your problems
by changing the way you think and behave. This model is used to treat anxiety and depression,
mental and physical health problems.

patients so as they can easily share their problems with them. An appropriate behaviour also
helps in to attracts customers towards organisation. In context of ifn doctors behaves well with
their customers so as they can easily identifies their problems and provide them effective
solutions.

CONCLUSION
At present time ,health and social care is very important for every person because
currently everyone wants to remain fit and healthy. For getting this they are going to the
professional or health and social care organisation where they are taking medical
treatments ,doing exercise and so on. From the above report ,it concluded that currently
perception of there people is changing related to the health and disabilities. There are many Acts
or society culture that protects the disable person from the discrimination and provide the equal
rights to them. The care workers should take the corrective action in case of abusive case and
should go the police or any other higher authority that can provide justice to the victim.
