INTRODUCTION
Academic and employability skills are essential in overall development of an individual
during a course of entire life. Academic skills or school skills are the approaches which are
applied to the learning and are essential in gaining success at a higher level of education, getting
an employment and further useful throughout the one's life. Academic skills consist of a core
skills such as, academic writings, presentation skills, and referencing which contribute towards
innovation, creativity, effective communication, analytical skills and problem skills (Pouratashi,
2019). On the other hand employability skills are the soft skills which help an individual in
getting employment. These skills are developed by an individual from school or college and are
useful during the entire life such as communication skills, team work, interpersonal skills,
problem solving and decision making. The report covers an analysis of skills required by a
restaurant manager so as to perform well through SWOT analysis, PDP and time management
tools.

Reflective report
Self assessment or reflection is conducted by an individual with the aim of identifying
reviewing and analysing their work and making reflection of the learning outcomes. It is the
process of enhancing the learning potential of an individual along with the implementation of
tools and strategies required to conduct effective self-assessment or self-reflective task. Self
assessment helps an individual in many aspects such as, evaluate the work against set criteria,
identifying strengths and weakness with regards to set of skills and knowledge, reflection on
style of learning and processes, and the impact of their performance over others (Sin, Tavares
and Amaral, 2019). With the help of Gibbs reflective cycle model, which was developed by
Graham Gibbs in the year 1988, an individual review the experiences through series of six steps
and find out the learning outcomes. The six step reflective cycle is consists of description,
feelings, evaluation, Analysis, conclusion, and action plan, which offers a deep insight of the
information related with an incident or a situation.

Below mentioned are the stages of Gibbs model so as to make a reflection on few of the
skills :
Descriptive : As the name suggests, this involves the detailed description of any event or
situation which is supported by few of the questions such as what have happened?, what
did I do? What other did? Team management skills are essential in order to have a right
thing at a right time. With my strong time management skills I have effectively managed
my personal and professional life. Time management have enabled me to address each
important aspect of business activities based on a priority level. An organised and
positive behaviour are the results of a good time management skills which foster healthy
working environment at workplace (Turner, Amirnuddin and Singh, 2019).
Public speaking and presentation skills have contributed towards my overall personality
development. These skills are essential to survive in a competitive environment and have
developed my confidence and satisfaction level to a high extent. Public speaking skills have
helped me in delivering motivational speech or conducting learning, training and development
programmes for the employees in an organisation which plays a significant role in having a
positive impact over employees and their overall development. Presentation skills are used by me
in an organisation to make a business presentation and developing effective training programmes
for the employees.
Academic writing skills are effective in creating and developing clear, concise, structured
and focus texts, messages and e-mail trough which intercommunication takes place in an
organisation. Academic writing are expressed and written in a formal and clear tone so that the
message is understood by the receiver. I have been moderate in these skills and needs some sort
of improvement so as to communicate with the top level of management which is usually done in
a formal and structured way (Suleman and Laranjeiro, 2018). Academic writing skills will help
me in increasing employee engagement at work place that will contribute in achieving
organisational and personal goal.
Feelings: Time management have always contributed towards effectively management
of business operational activities. I feel positive and confident with these skills as I can
easily manage the people and work at my fingertips. Superiors and subordinates at work
place appraise and appreciate my skills and help them in managing things with ease and

comfort. Employees with effective time management skills are less likely to absent from
work and feel confident and satisfied with the work done.
Public speaking and presentation skills have a significant impact on the behaviour of an
employee. With my strong, positive and influencing speech subordinates feels motivated,
confident and full of energy that can be clearly seen in their performance level (Fearon and et.
al., 2020). Good presentation skills have always helped me delivering quality of work at top level
of management and better explain the plans and strategies that will contribute towards overall
progress and survival of business.
Academic writings are essential in expressing views, ideas, opinions or beliefs openly
and clearly to the team work force. Academic writing helps me in becoming a critical thinker as
the main purpose of academic writing is to communicate effectively in way that makes a
meaningful sense to the receiver. Employees, me and other team members gets a sense of
professionalism through academic writings as theses skills strongly focus on style and
techniques. Creating a formal letters, letter of approval, research reports, formal speech for
special occasions, offer letter are the key essential of my academic writing skills that creates a
structured organisational structure.
Evaluation: Time management skills have allowed me to consider various activities that
were on priority list and with strong time management tactics I have managed work and
people to a greater extent (Sisodia and Agrawal, 2019). Employees with these skills were
attempting and delivering work on time which directly contributed towards enhancing the
employee’s productivity. Without proper time management skills I would not be able to
produce better work and that too on time which could result in high degree of stress.
Employees don't feel motivated, confident and satisfied with the work and results of
which can be absenteeism and poor quality of work. Success and growth of an individual
and an organisation completely depends on the way time is managed and how productive
results can be delivered within a stipulated period of time.
Public speaking and presentation skills have helped me in overall personality development that
open a wide career opportunities in future (Pouratashi, 2019). Leaning these skills I have learned
to be good presenter and an effective communicator with the purpose of making strong impact
on the lives of others and staff working for an organisation. In order to be good speaker it is
necessary to be a god listener. Listening to the employees through regular meeting, seminars or

appraisal programmes I have understood the needs of a work force and how they can be fulfilled.
These skills have opened me a new path towards success and growth along with the employees
which gets motivated or influenced the way I think, act, and behave.
Academic writing skills were essential for me to effectively convey a message with a
meaningful context. There are numerous ways through which an communication takes place and
one which is through academic writings which is a best method to express opinions, beliefs,
ideas or values of an individual (Bates and et. al., 2019). For me, it was difficult to communicate
with the top level of management and my subordinates in a formal and professional way, that
result in shaping a bad reputation within an organisation. Apart from this, research constitute a
essential function of an organisation which act as a foundation of any strategic planning, my
inabilities to write and present well have hindered the research and development process.
Acquiring these skills has developed my critical thinking and an ability to clearly express ideas
and thoughts in a meaningful manner.
Analysis: With my strong and effective time management skills, employees of an
organisation were able to complete their respective task with desired quality within a
stipulated period of time. Employees with these skills were able to know the deadlines of
the work and have managed the pace and speed accordingly (Fraser and et. al., 2019).
Time management skill improves the performance level of the workforce in terms of
productivity and efficiency. With the continuous assessment of my learning I have
revealed that these skills contribute directly towards shaping the behaviour of individual.
Employees with these skills work with integrity, dedication, honesty and reflect a positive
attitude towards work (Olivares and et. al., 2019).
Public speaking and presentation skills have helped me getting more attention and
active participation of an employee which have contributed towards the overall personality
development of an employee. Through their active participation I was able to identify the
strengths and weaknesses of each employee and have helped me to work closely with them with
so to address and resolve issue as soon as possible. Employees get motivated and consider
themselves as a part of family when addressed in an effective manner. Additionally, by learning
presentation skills employees were able to communicate well with the other team members and
learned a new tactics so to present their ideas, opinions or belief in a clear and concise way.

Academic writings learning have developed a set of skills which have helped me to
sustain and survive in a competitive world. Right and appropriate use of words, sentences, voice
tone, pitch of the voice, has helped in developing a strong communication network with the
peers, superiors and subordinates. Good and strong academic writing skills brings the sense of
professionalism in an organisational culture (Ayodele, Oladokun, and Kajimo-Shakantu, 2020).
Communication within an organisational context flows in an organised and structured manner
which avoids the communication gap and work is done in an efficient and effective manner.
Conclusion : On the basis of reflection or self assessment it is evident that for the growth
and prosperity of an individual or an organisation it is necessary to have a good
management of time. Management of time means handling and dealing with every aspect
of business activity in an efficient manner so as to deliver a work on time with desired
quality. I have been able to manage the work with my strong time management skills
which help me in achieving what, how and when I want. Overall it enhances my abilities
to produce more result within a given period of time.
Presentation and public speaking skills, with the learning of skills I have enable to make
a significant and positive impact on the lives of an employee (Abd Majid and et. al., 2020). In an
organisation employees deals with many issue, handles lots of stress and get involved in minor
conflict that result in declining their level of performance. My strong and impressive public
addressing skills have made the significant shift in the behaviour of employees at workplace.
They tend to perform well, feel motivated, represent positive attitude towards work, build
healthy relationship and remain as a loyal employee of an organisation.
With the learning of academic writing skills an effective and strong method of
communication is constructed which is based on formal and structured format. It represents the
unique style of communicating within an organisational structure. Academic writing skills help
in clearly addressing the issues and represent the information in a clear and concise manner.
Action plans: This steps represents the future actions needed to be taken so as to improve
the performance level or to act differently so that the present hurdles can be avoided
(Tejan and Sabil, 2019). Based on the self assessment I will take necessary steps so that
my academic writing skills are improved and a sense of professionalism is developed
within me and an organisation.
