INTRODUCTION
Communication is defined as an effective process that is used for passing the information
with an encode message from one individual to other. There are two ends exists in a
communication process which are sender and receiver. In simple terms, communication refers to
a process for transmitting information, ideas, facts etc. This report is written from perspective of
London underground or tube system that is used by general public and tourist to reach towards
different places in the London (Zerfass and et. al., 2018). Moreover, report highlight on barrier
and general theories of communication. In the last, strategies to solve communication barrier will
also include in the report.
MAIN BODY
Theories of communication
From the point view of Thomas Hanitzsch, 2013 communication theory plays an important
role as it is an intellectual inspiration that make certain of level to complete work with proper
communication method. This is generally used to review recommendations which boost
interesting contribution for providing better facilities through implementing communication
practice. The main role of a theory is to satisfy needs for all individuals that make aspect to
address better ideas that develop an excellent method for overcoming barriers. Some theories of
communication are mention as follow:
ANT- Actor network theory determine or suggest that both human and other such as non-
human factor both are essential for achieving better success. Moreover, technological innovation
and scientific knowledge creation both are implemented by London tube system with the support
of ANT theory through dividing organisational responsibility equally to all individuals (Ruben
and Gigliotti, 2017). The purpose to implement respective theory is to develop better
communication system between local Londoners and tourist.
Agenda setting theory- The term agenda setting theory defines or explain that mass
media play an important role in an organisation. This is used to decide that management must
attract numerous individuals according to the news story. Moreover, London tube system also
improves communication system through utilising mass media that transfer agenda for removing
barrier that generate issue or conflicts between individuals. Purpose to implement agenda setting
theory is to transfer message with general public.

Communication accommodation theory- According to communication accommodation
theory it is identified that there are various changes implemented by individuals to communicate
with professional and personal individuals. Like, at evening time professional persons use Tube
System to travel so if tourist makes noise then it is complex for them to complete project which
work as a barrier for individual to work (Rand, 2016). So ethics and values work as an important
aspect to generate better viewpoints which match action of individual according to decided place.
Communication barrier that generates conflicts and issue
Communication barrier between individuals generates complexity for completion of a
project. It refers that there are various challenges faced by persons to transfer knowledge, idea
and exchange meaning of words between local individual and visitor. Some of the major barrier
which is faced by management is mention as follow:
Language barrier- One of the major barrier that is faced by the individuals is the
change in language between local Londoners and persons who visit UK specifically
London. Due to change in the language it is complex for management of London tube
system to solve issue between visitor and London persons because Local individuals not
tolerant with different languages. Along with this due to change in language individuals
are not able to interact with each other which also work as a reason for conflict.
Example- due to change in language individual don’t understand meaning of others.
Noise barrier- Numerous challenges raised which is creating issue in the completion of
communication process but them major challenge raised due to noise that is generated
when individuals are inter-acting with each other. Example- Some people prefer to listen
music at time of travel as it formulate challenge when this person play music at loud
system which create disturbance for other individuals also (Motschnig and Nykl, 2014).
In the last, another challenge which faced is that visitor communicates with each other
with high voice due to which organisation face challenges. Noise barrier generate
challenge for visitor and London individual both.
Emotional barrier- The major emotional barrier relates with communication that is
used to face lack in emotional change, awareness and control. It is also refer that
emotional intelligence impacting on work that is impacting on communication level.
This refers emotional intelligence make challenge because inner level of emotion for
each individual is different. In context of the London tube system it is used by local

Londoners and tourist both and they are at different emotional state of mind which create
barrier. This refer visitor enjoy journey in an underground tube system but for local
persons it is a regular term which demonstrates changes in individual mind.
Strategies to overcome from communication barrier
This is important for London tube system to implement right strategy that leads individuals
to overcome from different barriers that are related with communication. It is an effective
process which works challenge to retain awareness among individuals which is used in making
better perspective to generate transparent communication channel between persons. Some
effective strategy that is implemented to overcome from barriers is mention as follow:
Avoid slang- The strategy of Avoid slag leads management to overcome from causal or
informal language that is used at time of travel. One of the major barrier which is faced
by individuals relates with noise is overcome through the strategy of avoid slang. This
refers if individuals are interacting with each other then they must go with formal
meeting (Holtzhausen, 2015). This leads persons to improve oral communication process
by managing better communication with each other that generate different benefits like,
to understand culture of each other.
Remain aware about language- One of the major aspects to improve communication is
to generate modern workplace that work together for accomplishing of common goal.
There are various tools such as software exists which helps individuals to communicate
with each other easily. Moreover, the British English almost leads understand at global
level so it is used for solving problems that raise at time of interaction (Hiller, Guillemin
and Delany, 2015). Moreover, the another solution which is used to overcome from
language barrier is display of poster because it easy to understand symbol.
Formulation of communication map- This is used by management for generating better
message in the form of text as it is one of the effective way that is used to connect with
other individuals in an organised manner. Within design of better communication
specifically in virtual communication, map works as an effective tool that simplify
message, keep conservation systematic and organised. London tube system trained its
employee for utilise and formulate communication map properly to overcome from the
barrier of emotional state of mind.

London tube system is a large place that leads individuals to travel from one place to another in
an organised manner. Physical and over-crowd are some other barrier that is generating
communication issue for travellers (Harris and et. al., 2016). Therefore, to overcome from all
communication challenge management of Tube system implement poster that leads to transfer
knowledge in an appropriate manner which all motivate individual to adopt transparent
communication policy.
CONCLUSION
With the all above information it is concluded that communication work as an effective
tool which is leading individuals to complete work in a proper manner. This governs that
individual and organisation both implement right communication policy for generating better
interaction with each other. There are numerous barrier faced by individuals such as Noise,
language and emotional which create challenge to communication. In the last, communication
strategy to overcome from barrier is also included in this report.
