INTRODUCTION
Individual reflection refers to the response to a specific stimulus. An individual often
written reflection in order to explore personal feelings, experiences and events. It is an
opportunity for a person to reconsider thoughts, feelings and events from the new or fresh
perspective. Often, the personal reflection is required to written in an academic context. Personal
response of an individual is required in order to write the reflection successfully (Barker, 2014).
This response will influenced by experiences, beliefs and opinions of an individual along with
similarities or differences to their own life. The emotional state of an individual at that moment
and the empathy or sympathy with characters are also influence the personal response. This
project is based on a written reflection of an individual regarding the experience they get
throughout the module. It also includes the discussion about skills and competencies that an
individual is able to develop at the time of performing academic work or the class room activities
involved in the module. The reflection on effective management of individual and their
academic work, referencing, strategies to avoid plagiarism, academic integrity etc. is included.
In order to present reflection on learning and experience of individual, Kolb's reflective
model is used that helps in providing the reflection in structured way (Curtis, Booth, Frankland
and Harris, 2018). This model includes four stages and is based on own experience of individual
which is then review, analyse and evaluate systematically or structured manner in three stages.
The main reason behind selecting this particular model of reflection is that it can help an
individual to learn more effectively and efficiently by determination of their less preferred styles
of learning and strengthening those by execution of experimental learning cycle. It helps in
developing the activities in such a manner that draw on capabilities from each phase of
experimental learning cycle as well as take individuals through the entire process in systematic
way.
REFLECTION
The academic work includes pursuit of knowledge as well as its dissemination and
implementation by activities involving, but not constricted to scholarly activity and research,
conference communications, teaching, publications, public lectures, professional practice etc.
(Duke and et. al., 2015) Performing academic work helps people in developing and maintaining
academic effectiveness and competence and enables them to perform their academic roles and

duties appropriately and in an effective manner. The academic skills like power point,
referencing, presentation, team working, research and many other skills helps individuals in their
future career growth. All these skills helps an individual in getting a good job (Jackson, 2015).
Thus, this module administered me with numerous opportunities to improve my management
skills as well as academic work. In this module, I went through numerous activities which are
conducted in class room. These bring several challenges or difficulties to me. But, apart from all
the challenges, this module helped me in learning new things and enhancing my capabilities for
attaining a better pathway in career. Numerous class room activities were conducted throughout
the module like group presentations, discussions, tests, debates etc. which assisted me in
developing academic skills including team work, research, presentation, power point etc. in an
effective way. All these helped me in performing excellently in class room. Thus, this academic
module brings up distinct kinds of experiences to me which helps in my personal development
and will proves to be beneficial for my career too. For reflecting my experience of throughout
the module, Kolb's reflective cycle is use by me to reflect on my academic work, integrity and
strategies to eliminate plagiarism and referencing.
Concrete experience: When this module was started, I was very nervous as I did not have
much knowledge about it. All the topics are new to me and I do not know what kind of
performance my tutors expect to me. Apart from this, I was not much familiar with my class
mates as well as my team members that was assigned to me for performing group activities. But
later on, we started working together and became able to understand each other's skills and
capabilities. I also learnt to manage my work that helps in developing my management and team
working skills. I haven't any knowledge about what is academic integrity, how to avoid
plagiarism, how to do referencing and manage the academic work. But later on, I am able to
develop various skills and capabilities that helps me in my career growth. At the initiation of this
module, I am assigned with the project on my understanding regarding academic integrity,
referencing, plagiarism etc. in which I need to perform in group of three or four people. My
teacher also assigned me with the work of writing an individual academic report on some topics.
Each member of my group was assigned with different topics and we all required to give a group
presentation on those topics (Zacharopoulou, Giles and Condell, 2015). At that time my
presentation and power point skills was not good and I felt that I am not able to perform group
presentation. I lacked confidence at that time, but after that my team members and my teacher

motivated and insisted me to give the presentation over topic. This helped me a lot in learning
new things about how to avoid plagiarism, do referencing and maintaining academic integrity. It
also helped in developing my presentation and power point skills as well as enables me to
understand that in which direction I need to work.
Reflective observation: At the time, when I started this module, I did not have much
knowledge regarding academic work, but as the time passes, I came to know regarding numerous
new things. When I was assigned with a task to write an academic report, I did not know how to
search appropriate literature sources and referencing the content. But, after doing it practically, I
observed that there are many sources over internet which are not authenticated. I felt that all the
informations available on internet is not always right (Travers, Morisano and Locke, 2015).
Apart from this, I also haven't any knowledge regarding referencing. But, during this module, I
observed that I learnt many new things which I never know before. I learnt about different types
of referencing styles and the way to referencing the content appropriately. I learnt many things
by watching and observing others.
In the module, my teacher thought me about how to maintain academic integrity while
writing and performing my job. I learnt that at the time of writing, I need to ensure that I make
use of authentic sources while writing content. This helps in improving my research skills and
enables me to search content on different topics in an appropriate manner. During this module, I
learnt about which source of literature is authenticate or unauthenticated and which types of
sources I need to use while writing academic journals (Maurer and Mawdsley, 2014. This
module helps in improving my knowledge regarding how to avoid plagiarism from the content. I
was able to know that copying the content from online source is not allowed in academic writing
as this increases the chances of plagiarism. Apart from this, by giving the presentation over the
topics that my tutor assigned to me, I am able to develop in-depth knowledge about those topics.
This also helps me in improving my presentation skills and builds my confidence level to stand
in front of others and present any information on the topic effectively. During this module, I also
learn to manage my work by prioritizing them as per their significance and managing the time
effectively which enables me to complete my all the work on time.
Abstract conceptualisation: Initially, when I joined the module, I lack knowledge
regarding how to work academically. My communication, research, power point, presentation
and team working skills was not good (Lestander, Lehto and Engström, 2016). But, as the a time

passes and I gained experience, I get to know about may things. Initially, I did not have any
knowledge about how to search content over a topic in different ways, but now, I am able to
search on a topic in many ways. In addition to this, earlier I was not able to identify which source
of literature is authenticated or which is not, but now, I have sufficient knowledge regarding
authenticated and unauthenticated sources. I learnt may new things from this module which I
never know before. But, apart from all these learnings, still I feel that there are some areas in
which I need to make improvements such as I need to work more on my presentation skills so
that I am able to present things in more better way.
Active experimentation: From this module, I have learn many new things which helps
me in my personal development as well as in my career development too. I am now able to apply
all the learnings from module in my practical life too (Khusainova, Chirkina and
Gabdrakhmanova, 2015). To work throughout the module was a good experience for me. My
classmates, tutor and team members supported me each time when I felt demotivated. While
working with the team, I came to know the various ways through which I can manage my work
and time. Apart from this, I am able to develop my team working skills. During this module, I
faced some issues also due to my inappropriateness in identifying the authentic sources. But,
with the guidance of my tutor and team members, I am able to write the academic content
effectively and understand the importance of academic integrity during the module.
CONCLUSION AND FUTURE ACTIONS
As per the above discussion, it has been concluded that personal reflection is written by an
individual in order to explore personal events, experiences and feelings. Kolb's reflectuve model
includes 4 stages that helps an individual in providing reflection in systematic manner on their
own experience. The module helps me in learning many new things which further helps me in
my personal and professional development. By this module, I learn the way to search authentic
literatures and include authentic content for academic writing. By reflecting on my own
experience, I get to know about my strengths and weaknesses. Reflection helps me in knowing
about my strong areas and supports me in determine my weak areas. This further helps me in
taking corrective actions to improve the weak areas.
There are some future actions that required to be taken by me in order to enhance my skills
and competencies. I need to work on my presentation skills and for this, i should attain training
sessions so that I am able to improve my presentation skills. I should ensure that i use authentic

source from the internet. This helps me in collecting authentic information from the purpose of
academic and reflecting writing. By performing the reflection on my own experience, i enable to
get the opportunity to improve my skills and other weak areas by taking appropriate initiatives.
In order to improve my researh skills, i should set the schedule to mitigate the deadlines. Before
doing any search over topic, i must know the appropriate sources as this helps me in improving
my research skills.
