CE 3.1 Project Information Name of the project:Indoor Wireless Communication using Visible Light (LI FI) Location of the project:Mumbai Project Duration:[2013 - 2014] Organization:University of Mumbai Role and Designation during the time:Team Leader CE 3.2 Project Background CE 3.2.1 Characteristics of the project Wireless technology are the most trending sector in the current digital world and every individual wants to utilize operations wirelessly. I had developed a project that will be helpful in eliminating the wired connection between the indoor appliances and automate the actions through utilizing the Li-Fi technology. I had used this technology as an alternative of the wired communication between the indoor electrical appliances that will be using LED’s for the communication for executing the operations. I had chosen the Li-Fi technology over the Wi-Fi in manner to allow the components and apparatus for dealing with the ever-changing conditions. CE 3.2.2 Objectives developed for the project I was interested in this project and wanted to accomplish the overall activities of the project in an effective and efficient manner for which, I had developed the following objectives:
To provide a wireless communication system for the indoor appliances at higher speed To Keep the security at optimum level To provide higher bandwidth CE 3.2.3 My area of work My primary job was to assign roles and responsibilities to each involved members in this project in manner to accomplish the activities involved in this project. I had used the codes and Matlab for the development of this system that will allow users to login in the network and operate the appliances wirelessly. I had used several algorithms for the efficient and effective development of this project. Thereafter I had solely designed the transmitting section for the established network. Transmitting section includes the power supply that will be responsible for providing power to the whole setup and used then following components for it: Figure 1: Power Supply, Component Diagram, and Layout Following is the layout of the circuit diagram:
Figure 2: Circuit Diagram I used transformer, rectifier, and filter in manner to restrict the high voltage supply and manage the flow of the power that can be handled by the components without being destroyed. I had also used the ‘Regulator and Microcontroller’ for the collection of the transmitted data and process it accordingly for performing the actions.I also utilized the USN to TTL converter for the establishment of this wireless network. Thereafter, I had also used the LED for this transmission section.

CE 3.2.4 Project Group CE 3.2.5 My responsibilities throughout the project I was responsible for auditing the overall development of the project executed by the individuals of the project. I had also contributed in the MATLAB coding that has played a major role in the execution of the project successfully. I had also contributed in the testing of the established product in manner to detect if there is any fault with the programming or circuit instalment. I was also responsible for the PCB designing in the project and soldering each component at the board. I had kept the soldering very clear and for the evaluation process, developed the following test cases: DelaySpeed of TransmitterReceptionError 1 msecMoreYesNo
0.01 msecLessYesNo 0.001 msecVery LessNoYes CE 3.3 Distinctive Activity CE 3.3.1 Comprehending the theory of the project I had considered the advantages of the Light Fidelity (Li Fi) over other wireless technology and utilized for the development of the project as it is based on VLC technology that is helpful in fast exchange of data. “The main components of this communication system are 1) a high brightness white LED, Which acts as a communication source and 2) a silicon photodiode which shows good response to visible wavelength region serving as the receiving element? LED can be switched on and off to generate digital strings of 1s and 0s.” CE 3.3.2 Engineering knowledge and skills applied in the project The whole setup of the project needs highly qualification skills in the electronics engineering as it needs perfect programming and establishment of the electronic components in an effective manner. I applied my knowledge gathered during my electronics engineering academics and delivered the objectives and goals of the project. It was necessary to embed proper programming for the exchange of the information between the transmission and receiving section.
CE 3.3.3 Accomplishment and task performed I had firstly assigned the jobs to the team members according to their interest as everyone was already well aware with the project that we were about to deliver. I had done the management and PCB designing within the project along with the auditing and monitoring of the development of the project. The project was subdivided for each involved member and I had to take care of the development of the project. I had used various algorithms and coding for the establishment of this wireless network in which a user can login and operate the appliances wirelessly. This project is an alternative solution for operating the appliances using cables. I had toaccomplishtheactivitiesinthetransmissionandreceivingsectionthroughproper establishment of the electrical components on the circuit board. CE 3.3.4 Identified issues and their solutions 3.3.4.1 Issues I had identified that power supply needs to be restricted at the very low level as the general power supply being used in India is 220 V. I had used the electrical components of very low rating those will be destroyed or burnt if high voltage is passed through them. Managing the team as a whole was another concerning topic for me as this was the first time when I was leading a team for real job. 3.3.4.2 Solutions I had used the Transformer, Rectifier, and Regulator for the conversion of A.C voltage supply to D.C voltage supply and managed the linear power supply for the electrical appliances. This will be helpful in protecting them from getting damage due to high voltage. I had used my leadership techniques for communicating with each team members and tried to motivate them towards accomplishing the objectives of the project.

CE 3.3.5 Plan to produce creative and innovative work Wired indoor appliances are being utilized since the development of the electricity and wireless technology is what, current population wants to be relied upon. I had contributed in developing the project that will be helpful in operating these appliances using Li – Fi technology that is based upon VLC technology that is much faster and more reliable than any other wireless technology. I contributed in this project to operate the house hold activities through LED transmission through proper and accurate programming installed with the microcontroller. CE 3.3.6 Collaborative work This was a vast project and at that time, it was complete to impossible for me to execute the project. My team members and I had contributed in the successful development of this project that will allow the user to be connected within the network and utilize the indoor appliances wirelessly. Every team member was responsible for the successful delivery of this project to be operated wirelessly. I lead the team towards accomplishing the constraints of the project within the schedule as planned in the very early stage of the execution of the project. I had tried to keep the development of the project on track through motivating and supporting each team member towards delivering the project in an effective and efficient manner. CE 3.4 Project Review CE 3.4.1 Project Overview I had used the‘coding’ and ‘decoding’withinthe microcontrollerfor the execution of the exchange of data between the transmitter and receiver and thus, execute the required operation. Our attempt was to boost up the speed of the signal transmission between the
transmitter and receiver. I had used white LED in combination with the OFDM transmission that has resulted in positive manner for enhancing the switching of the transmitter and receiver. This project was an attempt to present a solution for accessing the indoor apparatus wirelessly and eliminate the need of cabling. CE 3.4.2 My contribution to work I had contributed in the PCB designing, Testing, and soldering of the electronic and electrical components of this project. I had done soldering on the electric boards as shown in the following figures: Figure 4: Transmission Board Figure 5: Receiving Section
Figure 6: The Whole Project I had contributed in scheduling the project and evaluating the functionality of the project in manner to keep the quality of the project at the highest level. I had contributed in managing the roles of each individual and provided needful guidance to them to accomplish their area of work in an effective and efficient manner. I had to take care of the conflicts and executed the whole project without any conflict between the team members.
