element
Paragraph number
in the career
episode(s) where the
element is addressed
PE1 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL BASE
PE1.1
Comprehensive,
theory-based
understanding of the
underpinning
natural and physical
sciences and the
engineering
fundamentals
applicable to the
engineering
discipline
I proposed the idea of a system that can be helpful in
providing regulation against the input power supply
I utilized the basic principle of the LDR that will
allow the flow of electricity whenever the light is not
detected however; the connection will be cut - out
whenever, light is detected
I identified that the street lights are consuming much
electricity than its application and lots of electricity
can be saved through proposing an effective solution
for the electricity consumptions

PE1.2 Conceptual
understanding of the
mathematics,
numerical analysis,
statistics and
computer and
information sciences
which underpin the
engineering
discipline
I aimed at developing a product that can enhance the
effort of the individuals through introducing the
project that can be utilized for controlling the
electrical appliance such as fans and lights using the
TV remote
I tried to manage the working of the street lights only
during the night and they will not be working when it
is dark
Career Episode 1: CE

I developed the following block diagram for laying
the path on how to develop the project and implement
the necessary elements
Career Episode 3: CE
3.3.2
PE1.3 In-depth
understanding of
specialist bodies of
knowledge within
the engineering
discipline
I used the theory of triac circuit theory and electrical
components for developing the system that will allow
the users to control the electrical appliances using TV
remote
I refreshed all the wiring with proper procedures of
the soldering and assured that none of the connections
are loose and the entire circuit is closed for the
accomplishment of the electricity savings
I used the concepts of biasing in the semi – conductors
and information exchanged by the sensors for
developing an automated system that will allow the
power to the LEDs of the street light only of the
vehicle approaches towards it on the road

PE1.4 Discernment
of knowledge
development and
research directions
within the
engineering
discipline
I was appointed as a team member and assigned with
the responsibilities other than design and circuit that
was to monitor the appliances being utilized is capable
of handling the necessary actions
I attempted to develop the system that will
automatically turn on and off the street lights
considering the intensity of the light in the
environment
I had successfully proposed the model of a project that
can be utilized for saving the electricity being
consumed by the street lights through limiting the
usage of power by those lights

Career Episode 3: CE
3.3.2, CE 3.3.3 and
CE 3.4.1
PE1.5 Knowledge of
contextual factors
I had to assure that the developed design will allow
the users to control the intensity and speed without
Career Episode 1: CE

impacting the
engineering
discipline
any problems and issues
I proposed this project as a solution for saving the
electricity and operating the street lights automatically
I was chosen as the team leader for the progress of the
project and hence, my primary job was to manage
other team member’s roles and responsibilities and
assure that the project is being executed without any
conflict

Understanding of
the scope, principles,
norms,
accountabilities and
bounds of
contemporary
engineering practice
in the specific
discipline
I communicated with every team member in manner
to analyse the current situation and the modifications
those are necessary for developing an efficient output
I connected the MOSFET with two resistors with a
voltage difference of 5 V and the third resistor is
connected LDR with same voltage difference
I used the concepts of biasing in the semi – conductors
and information exchanged by the sensors for
developing an automated system that will allow the
power to the LEDs of the street light only of the
vehicle approaches towards it on the road
