1INFORMATION SYSTEM PROJECT MANAGEMENT
1. Project Introduction, Aim and Expectation
Baippari Furnitures assembles and sells sofas, beds and other furniture to the customers.
From its modest beginning in 1988, the company has come a long way and has established itself
as one of the most popular furniture businesses in the area. In order to keep pace with the
progressive technology that has revolutionized the business sector, the company has decided to
design and implement an information system for business that will also solve a number of
problems and issues.
The main aim of this project is to develop an online based information system for
Baippari Furnitures.
It is expected from the project that the information system as proposed will be able to
solve some of the problems faced by the company that will be discussed later in this report.
2. Comprehensive Business Scenario and Client Information
In spite of being a very successful in terms of business, the company has been facing
some issues for some time now that are listed as follows.
Manual Operations – In the retail store, after selling a particular piece of furniture, the
sales record is updated manually in paper. The sales record includes the number of product in
catalogue, the payment made and the change returned. Due to the manual paper based system,
there are often errors during updating the records that have negative impact on the business of
the company.

2INFORMATION SYSTEM PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Market Competition – In the last few years, the trend of online marketing has grown
significantly and many new companies have grown up that provide online market services to the
customers. The online market (or ecommerce) provides products at reasonable prices, high
amount of discounts and the customers do not have to travel to the store to purchase the product
as they are delivered to his address within a few days. The gaining popularity of online market in
the area has negatively impacted the business of Baippari Furnitures as many regular customers
of the company now prefer online market for purchasing furniture.
Manpower and Customer Service – In the current system, since all the sales processes are
performed manually in the retail store, the staffs are not able attend the customer queries very
often. As a result, the customer service is not up to the mark and requires some changes.
Moreover, the excessive amount of manpower required to handle the sales results in high amount
of monthly expenses for the company.
The proposed information system that is to solve the above mentioned problems will
have the following system functionalities.
Online market portal for the company where the customers can create their own
profile using Google, Facebook or Email ID and view and purchase furniture
products from the company online
Online order placement system in which the customers can place an order for a
selected product by viewing every details of the products including the prices
Online payment system through which the customer can pay for his ordered
product through credit and debit cards

3INFORMATION SYSTEM PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Online customer service including chat system through which the customers can
place their queries and complaints in the form of text messages that in turn can be
viewed and addressed by a customer care agent of the company
Cloud database in which all the relevant data including company business data,
customer personal information, purchase records and others will be stored
Accounting system that will help in recording sales and payments in the physical
retail stores
A proposed data flow diagram (DFD) of the system is as follows.
