1 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ETHICS Introduction The particular field of ethics is responsible for resolving all types of questions related to human morality by providing proper definition of the ideas like good or bad, virtue or vice, correct or wrong as well as justice or crime. The principles and theories are required to understand the ethical behaviour of that particular person (Moor, 2017). Any situation or any individual could be judged on the basis of the morality. However, there is yet another effective method to judge the situation that whether it is ethical or not. Any situation could be easily judged with the help of ACS or Australian Computer Society Code of Professional Conduct. This essay describes about the ethical dilemma scenario of “Early Launch”. Proper analysis as well as recommendation will also be provided in the essay. Discussion Identification of Ethical Issue in the Case Study The project manager Gregg is going through major ethical dilemma when the program director has mentioned about the early launch of project even before encryption (Scenario 3: Early Launch. 2018). The CIA of the organization wants them to deliver this particular project a month early than the deadline for getting more projects from the client. Due to the higher value of this Willis project, the CEO is pressurizing each of them. However, Gregg is not ready for it and wants to complete the encryption. The major ethical issue for the above mentioned scenario is that Willis project will be launched even before encryption (Lacan, 2013). The respective client would be undergoing a main issue for this reason and the entire project will crash.
2 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ETHICS AnalysisofEthicalIssueinRespecttoAustralianComputerSocietyCodeof Professional Conduct ACS Code of Professional Conduct comprises of six distinctive and specified ethical codes that are important and should be followed by each and every professional (Dewey, 2016). These six distinctive codes of conduct would be professionalism, the primacy of the public interest, honesty, competence, the enhancement of quality of life and professional development. This specific ethical scenario of Early Launch could be easily judged on the basis of these six professional codes of conduct. The description of this analysis is given below: i)The Primacy of the Public Interest: The first code is the primacy of the public interest, which refers to the factor any specific person must place the interests of the public above the interests of the business, sectional and personal reasons. However, in the case study of Early Launch, the organizational CEO as well as the program director has considered their business and personal profits or interests on top priorities and thus they could be termed as unethical. ii)The Enhancement of Quality of Life:This is the second distinct code amongst the six codes of professional conduct (Critchley, 2014). This code states that the person must strive for the proper enhancement of the life quality for everyone, who are being affected by the work. As per this scenario, the persons who are affected by the project are the respective clients of Willis project. iii)Honesty: The third Australian Computer Society Code of Professional Conduct states that the specific person must be enough honest while his significant representation of services, products, knowledge and skills. If that particular individual is not being honest, he is termed as unethical in nature (Gatens, 2013). As per this case study, the CIA, program
3 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ETHICS director and the CEO are dishonest as they are launching the Willisproject without encryption. iv)Competence:This is the next significant Australian Computer Society Code of Professional Conduct, which refers to the fact that the person must workdiligently and competently for these stakeholders. In this case study, the affected stakeholders are clients, project manager and senior and junior project developers. However, they are unable to go against their seniors by providing them a complete project after proper encryption or testing (Noddings, 2013). Hence, the senior authorities are unethical. v)Professional Development:As per professional development, any person must enhance and increase his professional development as well as for the other colleagues and staffs. However, the respective program director would be going against his professional development and is wanting the entire Willis project team for being unethical and illegal and launch the project earlier. vi)Professionalism: This is the final code of the ACS code of professional conduct that states that any specific person will increase the overall integrity of society and respect from the organizational members (Peters,2015). However, in the provided scenario, the respective program director would lose both integrity as well as respect from every other organizational member. Suitable Recommendation with Proper Justification The most suitable and appropriate recommendation for this particular case study of Early Launch for Gregg and his project team is to hold a meeting with the respective program director and CEO and make them understand the efficiency of testing and encryption for the Willis project. With this type of meeting and discussion, the senior authority would be able to know the problem and will not force the team to launch the project early. Moreover, the

4 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ETHICS encryption after launching would be dangerous for the project as it would be incomplete and the client would be unhappy and would avoid any further contract with the organization, which would be destructive for the business. Conclusion Therefore, from this above discussion, conclusion could be drawn that ethics solely refers to subsequent morality of human behaviour. The specified methodology that is extremely effective and efficient for the proper ethical judgement of a situation is by the ACS Code of Professional Conduct. Six distinctive codes of professional conduct are present that aretheprofessionalism, theprimacyofthepublicinterest, honesty, competence, the enhancement of quality of life and professional development. All of the six above mentioned professional conduct codes are responsible for efficiently and effectively determining the significant morality of any situation without any issue or problem. The above provided essay has clearly outlined the case scenario of Early Launch, in which the Willis project would be launched before encryption and analysis is done with the help of ACS Code of Professional Conduct.
