Japan's ritualized andunique business culture is considered to be a huge obstacle for the foreign organizations such asModak ltd which are planning to expand their business in Japanese market(Hofstede,2015). Thereason behind it lies in the Japanese protocol and highly value etiquette during any kind ofbusiness meetings. But this need not demotivate the investors for investing in the Japanesemarket as the people in japan accepts every culture and trend with respect. The Japanese marketis highly profitable and can help a business to develop and grow easily. The economy of Japanis a one of the leading economy in the world. Most of the western organizations target Japanesemarket to expand their business. The Modak ltd needs to focus on understanding japan culturefor successful establishment of their business in Japanese market. The company needs to

identify the differences between Bulgaria and Japan culture, trends and values. In order tounderstand the culture of Japan, Hofstede develops a 6-D model which is as described below - Power Distance – The Power Distance dimension deals with the reality that each and everyindividual in a society are not same or equal. It shows the attitude of the culture towards theinequalities in the people. The Power distance can be described as the extent to which not sopowerful members of organizations or companies within a nation accept and expect the power isnot distributed equally. Japan is a marginal hierarchical society, the people or businesses in japanare very conscious regarding their hierarchical position in any type of social setting and actaccording to it. Still, it is not as hierarchical as compared to the other Asian cultures. Someforeign individuals and businesses feels Japan is strongly hierarchical due to the slow decisionmaking process within business environment. Each and every decisions may be confirmed byvarious hierarchical layer and by the top management in Tokyo lastly. There is a strong beliefwithin the Japanese education system which states that every individual is born equal andeveryone can achieve success by hard-work(Alves and Lovelace,2016).Individualism – The major issue identified by the Individualism dimension is the degree ofinterdependence a society manages or hold among its members. It is related to the concept thatwhether an individual's self image is described in terms of “we” or “I”. In the Individualistsociety people are expected to take care of themselves and their family. Within the collectivistsociety people are connected in groups and look after each other in exchange of loyalty. Japanesesociety consist many of the features of a collectivistic society for example people have anextreme sense of shame and maintaining harmony of group without putting on individualperception or opinion. But Japan is not that much collectivistic as compare to the other Asiancountries, the most common example for this is that Japanese society does not consist extendedfamily system which is a base for many collectivistic societies such as Korea and China. Japansupposed to have a paternalistic society in which the family name and assets was forwarded tothe eldest son by his father. The younger kids had to leave home and live on their own with theirown families(Bonnici,2016). However, the Japanese are very loyal to the companies ororganizations they are working with whereas the Chinese switch their jobs easily. The Japanesesociety can be defined as Individualist according to Asian standards and collectivistic accordingto the Western standards. The Japanese are more reserved and private as compared to the Asians.
