The number of international visitors increased by 11 percent compared to the figure in 2017. The average spending of international visitors in Tasmania is $1779. The visitors come in Tasmania for different purposes such as spending holiday, visit friends and relative, business purpose, education, employment and other reasons. Among the various purpose of international visitors, holidays account the highest share. The top five source of international visitors in Tasmania include China, United States of America, United Kingdom, Hong Kong and New Zealand. Among these China constitutes the highest share (tourismtasmania.com.au 2019). Visitors also come from Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, India and other Asian countries, Germany, France, Scandinavia, Italy, Netherland and other European countries. This amount alone accounts 10.4 percent of Gross State Product of Tasmania. The direct and indirect contribution together constitute the highest share of GSP in the country. The direct contribution of tourism in GSP of Tasmania is $1.44 billion which means 4.9 percent of Gross State Product of Tasmania. The indirect contribution of Tourism in Tasmania’s GSP is 1.58 billion accounting 5.4 percent of GSP. Apart of GSP, tourism has significant contribution in generating employment in Tasmania.
