Susan Mendus is an academic from the country of Welsh in the United Kingdom who
specializes in the field of political philosophy. She is a Professor of Political Philosophy at
the University of York. Apart from that she has also been a Vice President of the British
Academy in between the year of 2008 and 2012. A Fellow of the British Academy in the year
2004, she was also a founding Fellow of the Leaned Society of Welsh launched in the year
2010.
The purpose of this essay is to determine and understand the statement made by
Susan Mendus related to the democratic theory as well as the gender bias in the case of
women.
When one tries to analyse the statement made by Susan Mendus, it is found that the
politician is talking about the democratic right and how this same right leads to the system of
gender bias in the society which is faced by the women. The academic is o f the opinion that
the democratic theory, in spite of speaking about a democratic system does not pay much
attention to the cause of the women (Cohen et al. 10). This is because the women and their
problems have never been understood by the democratic theory and the democratic system of
the government of a particular country. The academician states that the women lacks the
social and economic power in the society which is one of the reasons why many feminists are
losing their faith in the democratic theory and the democratic system of the Government of
the country (Blaug 1).
When one tries to analyse the meaning of the statement of Susan Mendus, it becomes
clear that the academician has talked about the problems that women still faces in spite of
having a democratic country and a democratic system of government in the country. From the

exists in then society as a very serious and important issue that causers problem to the women
