Improving East and West Care Home Services

This assignment provides a comprehensive review of health and social care management practices, with a focus on improving the services offered by East and West care home. INTRODUCTION
It is very important for the health care institute to take care of every aspect of the patient
who are staying there. It is mandatory for them to follow all the policies, legislation, codes of
practice etc. in order to work properly and can contribute to the society in development and
implementation of health and social care policy. According to HSC, their main motto is to help
and treat the patients very carefully. For this they have to maintain their management system
which ensures that every staff member is working good. This report will focus on different
principles of East and West care home which has to followed by them properly. It will also
explain their duties and responsibilities in the institute. Different theories that should be
implemented in the care home is also explained in it.
PART 1
1.1 Principles of support to ensure individuals are cared for in health and social care practice
Principle support plays very important role in the care home as it helps them to take care
of their patient who are living in their organization for the treatment. This can be very useful to
understand the personal needs and preferences of their patients so that the can provide them the
best quality of service which can help them in their treatment as well.It is very important for the
organization to provide the best quality of services to their patients which has come from
different religions and ethnic background. It becomes mandatory for them to take care of all the
responsibilities related to them in effective manner. According to the given scenario of East and
West Care Home, it is not maintained properly and do not follow all the rules and regulations
which is mandatory for them. T^hey are not able to provide proper treatment to their patient.
According to Care Quality commission (CQC) they have not maintained the records of their
patients. It has to be maintained properly to ensure that every patient is given proper treatment as
per their requirement. Principle of support is very necessary to adopt by the care home because
by this way, members of care home will be able to understand procedure to maintain privacy in
the workplace (Aveyard, 2014).
1.2 Procedure for protecting clients, patients, and colleagues in East and West Care Home
It is mandatory for care home to take proper care of their patient and help them to protect
from every harm. The main aim of East and west care home is to satisfy their patients and
resolve their issues and problems quickly. There are various ways in which they can protect their
patients in the care home, by implementing following steps, which is explained below,

 Proper Management: It is very important to have a proper and well managed management
in the organization which can help them to work properly. This will also ensure that
every patient is given sufficient time for treating them.
 Meeting the cultural and spiritual needs: It is very important to understand the cultural
and spiritual needs of their patient. It should be considered very important aspect by the
care house employees. This process will give them satisfaction.
 Recruiting Skilled employees: It is very important for staff members to work with expert
as it can help them to gain knowledge related to their work which is very useful for them
in fulfilling their responsibilities in the care home. It will also help in managing any
situation which can arise in the East and West care home.
It is very important for the care home to protect it from activities like abuse in the
organization. There are various types of abuse which can occur in the firm if the management
team is not taking it seriously, for example,
1. Emotional abuse aka Psychological abuse : In this type of abuse, it consists of behavior
designed to hurt another person mentally. It can include yelling, threats, shaming,
humiliation and shaming, among other tactics.
2. Physical abuse : This is the most type of abuse found in any organization. In this, any
physical act or threat of a physical act designed to harm another person physically. This
type of abuse includes actions like slapping, punching, hair-pulling and kicking.
3. Sexual abuse : This type of abuse is usually happens with girl or women although men
can be victims of sexual abuse too. Sexual abuse includes any unwanted sexual act forced
on the victim.
4. Verbal abuse : This type of abuse is generally done verbally. This can include abusive
words or body language.
5. Elder abuse : This type of abuse happens between an elder and another person, typically
younger, such as the elder’s child. Elder abuse consists of other forms of abuse
perpetrated against an elder.
Safeguard policies are used to protect all their patients from being abused in the care
home. For this they have to implement some policies into their system to have proper
functioning, for example,
 They can personally talk to the patient to minimize this problem in the care home.

 There are various local system which can be implemented in the care home to protect
their patients, such as, Safeguarding Adults Boards, Safeguarding policies and procedures
for vulnerable adults, etc.
 Apart from this, there are various national policies as well which can be used by the
organization, for example, Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006, the Vetting and
Barring Scheme and Human Rights Act 1998.
1.3 Benefits of using a person centred approach in East and West Care Home
Personal centered approach is a process which is used by the employees of the care home
to ensuring someone with a disability is at the center of decisions which relate to their life. A
person centered process involves listening, thinking together, coaching, sharing ideas, and
seeking feedback. This can be very useful for the organization to make their patient feel safe and
secure in the care home. For care home it becomes mandatory to give attention to all their
patients who are staying in their institute. They have to understand their patients needs and
preferences to make them feel comfortable. These approach will help in developing effectual
listening, sharing ideas and information. It will also ensure to analyze the complaints received
from their patients and their family member which can help them in improving their services
(Glasby, 2017). Following are the benefits of person centered approach which is explained
below:
 Rights of the users: It is compulsory for the firm to provide effective and proper services
which can support the needs and preferences of their patients. They have to understand
the requirements and needs of their patients to provide the best service according to their
treatment.
 Requirements of users: East and West care home should support and provide the rights of
their service users and give them proper facility to use in the care home. It is very
essential for them to fulfill all the requirements of their patients.
 Maintaining their privacy and dignity: Managing their privacy is also an important aspect
which has to done properly by the care home to maintain their dignity (Greene, 2017).
1.4 Ethical dilemmas and conflict in health and social care services
The differences between users and providers which can arise in any situation give rise to
ethical dilemma in the organization. To resolve these issues it is very essential to have a clear

discussion which can help in minimizing the chances of conflicts. Following are the ethical
dilemmas which can take place in East and West care home, which are as follows:
 Right of individual: It is very important for HSC worker and staff members to give their
best services, for example, giving food to them, taking care, changing their clothes,
helping them in several activities like walking, bathing, etc. As all these are the rights of
the patients who are staying in the care home. So it has to be properly managed by them.
They have to fulfill all the requirements of their patients.

4.1 Own role, responsibilities, accountability and duties in health and social care workplace
According to the guidelines of Care Quality Commission (CQC), there are various
policies which has to be enforced in the East and West care home. Working as a manager in East
and West care home, it is my responsibility to analyze all the procedures and processes in the
company to make it more effective. For this I have worked on many factors, such as,

 Management: This was the most important task to accomplish in the organization as it
was lacking in many aspects. It is important to make it work properly (Cameron and
et.al., 2014).
 Maintenance: Maintaining the hygiene factors of the patient and of the organization as
well should be done carefully.
 Giving proper training to their staff members for handling the elderly to be given to all
the care givers can help them to work effectively and make them feel satisfy in the care
home.
 There are some policies which should be introduced in the East and West care home to
deal with the staff that offends the policies at the care home. It should be follwed strictly
in the care home.
4.2 Own contribution to the development and implementation of health and social care
organizational policy
Working as a manager in the organization it becomes very important for me to take my
duties very seriously. According to the scenario, company is not doing well and is not following
the rules and regulation as per CQC report (Liebler and McConnell, 2016). Several changes has
been implemented in the system to work properly.
 There should be proper implementation of hierarchy to check all the processes and
policies which is being adopted at the care center to make them work efficiently.
 Proper supply of medicines and regular counseling of patients is maintained in East and
West care home.
 Giving training to the staff employees to make them understand their work more
precisely and correctly.
 Better understanding of patients needs and preferences has been taken care of.
There are various policies related to safeguarding in the organization. This can be
achieved by implementing several changes in the firm which can help them to improve their
services, for example,
 It will help in safeguard children, young people and Adults at Risk in practice, by
defining abuse and informing us what to do.
 Being clear what roles and responsibilities they have in safeguarding.
 What staff can expect from the organisation to help them work effectively.

4.3 Recommendations for East and West care home
There are some recommendation and suggestion according to my opinion which can be
beneficiary for the East and West care home, which they can adapt in their management system
to improve their services. This will also them in enhancing their services as well.
 Organization should recruit skilled employees for the post.
 They should focus on complaints and feedback received from the patients and from their
relatives as well. This can help them to make improvement in their services.
 They should maintain the standard and reputation of the organization as there are so
many chases of abuse (Green and Thorogood, 2018).
 They should provide proper training to their staff members.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it can be concluded that it is very necessary to properly manage
the work in health and social care centers. For East and West care home it is very important to
follow all the rules and regulations related to health and safety in order to work properly. And
thus provide best working facilities to care providers in order to enhance their efficiency. It is
very important to follow all the rules and regulations which is compulsory for East and West care
home to work effectively. This report also reflects some suggestion which can be very helpful for
them to implement in their management system to improve their services.
