Client-Server Model and Mainframe Technology

Introduction:
Local area network (LAN) is a collection of autonomous computers and the related devices that allocate
a common connections line or wireless link to a server [2]. Typically, a LAN encompasses the
autonomous system and peripherals device to a server within the different zones like an office or a
commercial establishment. As per scenario one a local area network requires to support windows
server and client environment, it is healthier to establish client server architecture. Various applications
work in a client and server environment, it mainly relates to the fact that various client computer comes
in contact with a server, usually a very authoritative computer in terms of input as well as output, which
gives work performance as output to the client system. These services are the programmes which can
give data such as the time, files, a connection, and etcetera.
To run a program in the client computer, the different services that are used by the client program is
used by send and receive the data. The server sends the data and the client receives the data.
The hardware, software, and each domain network information controller and file server in the
network, have the responsibility to process the request and to respond with the information [4]:
 As per the need of speed of various microprocessor the RAM need to be installed.
 Windows cluster service or network load balancing service is enabled with disk and array
controller.
 Naming conventions needs to be maintained.
 User has to specify the Primary domain controllers and backup domain controllers for
controlling the data transfer rate.
 Terminal Services has to be maintained where the Servers are running.
 Each version of operating system has a specific language.
 The system has lots of scope to DHCP servers and IP addressing
 WINS servers and DNS server is used for naming convention.
 The different software applications and antivirus are located on servers.
 The different third-party network servers are used for better services like: Novell NetWare.
Configuration setup:
A Computer network is consisting of more than two computers.
The client and server network has many advantages like centralized backup, Intranet capability, Internet
monitoring, etc. All these services can be maintained in a single server for a small network.

Client Operating Systems
A new operating system (OS) installation is appropriate if:
 There is a system without any operating system.
 There is a computer with an operating system but the user does not to rewrite it.
 There is a computer with an operating system but not supporting a development of OS.
 To install a new operating system:
a. Switch on the system. If a system without operating system is being used, "Strike F1 to retry
boot, F2 for setup utility".
b. Starting the drive of DVD.
c. DVD must be in the drive which the OS that is operating system.
d. The system must be restarted.
e. Any key must be pressed for booting form CD to DVD. Press any key to continue. Otherwise:
f. After that installation will start copying of different files.

Press the next button which indicates the ready state of installation
Suppose the OS is already available at the same time the next screen will indicate you to upgrade it into new installation.

Perform the partion process by clicking the next button.
Once the partion is done upgrade the system and protect it via anti-virus.
Procedure for installing the server operating system:
In a network of client server connection, a system can be named as a client, if it provides all the
resources to other computers or hosts. At the same time a server is a system that can share in a
client or network of server to hold all the resources and products that other system may require to
perform their task.

As per the name the server is used to provide service. For this work, the server must have
accumulated with a Microsoft windows server which is an operating system. That's the one which we
will use.
We need to upgrade the system if you have a system which has an operating system with a lower
version. Sometime you may have the computer system which cannot be upgraded either into server
2008 or server 2008R2. If the OS is already available then it is must to upgrade the computer system.
For getting an operating system as per the requirement:
 You can purchase a computer which is already having an operating system, you can directly
install an server OS by just upgrading the current OS.
Install Microsoft Windows Server 2008:
a. After switching on the system the DVD drive must be open.
b. Putting the disk in the drive and thereby closing it.
c. Restarting of the computer and Press Any Key to Boot from CD or DVD
d. The machine has already a computer system then start it after that DVD drive must be opened
and DVD is put into it and after that the drive is closed. If the OS is not upgradable then a
message box will be displayed and it will inform the user and let it know.
e. At a time, a window will be displayed which will ask for selection of language. After that
selection of language that is English is done.

g. Click Install Now tab
h. The next screen will make a prompt with the software model of the operating system need to
get install. For example, we click Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Enterprise with Service Pack 1
i. For continuation with the installation process, press on Next tab
j. The very next screen will deliver the Microsoft Software License Terms. Read it. As it will take a
long time, to direct up and down, you can press Page Up or Page Down button. After verifying
it, if you accept the terms of the license, click on I Accept The License Terms

k. Press on the Next tab.
l. The forthcoming screen will guide an individual for upgradation or installation for new
installation.
m. In most of the cases, the partitions are created. For example, if an individual has one part and
on the contrary it is too large then an individual needs to create different parts. Then, click New.
A spin button will get display, the spin button will allow you to decrease or manage the size(s) of
the partition(s). When you achieve the required size, click Apply. You can also format a partition
which is necessary. If you do, make sure you use NTFS

n. Perform the part you need to allocate for the operating system.
o. Press on the Next tab to continue.

p. The installation process will start copying different files and this can take a considerable amount
of time. The system will reboot after the installation process has completed copying different
files.
q. When the system reboots, it may display a message in which instruction to Press Any Key to
Boot from CD or DVD. Don't press any key.
The installation will perform new operations about Completing Installation.
When it has finished Completing Installation, the computer may reboot.
The next screen asks you to set the administrator's password:

Press the OK button
r. Type the password you need to give.
s. After that Tab button is pressed and then the password is typed.
t. The right point button can be pressed or enter button can be pressed.
u. After that a message is displayed which will indicate that the password has been changed.

After that ok button it clicked.
v. When the system ask to login then an individual must press Ctrl+ALT+DELETE
w. After that password button it entered and enter button is clicked.

Configuration for DHCP Server:
There are five different steps to configure DHCP server.
Step1: Install the operating system and configure the TCP/IP on DHCP
Step2: Install the active directory and the domain name for DHCP server.
Step3: Create an account for domain administrator.
Step4: Create a scope for DHCP server on DHCP1.
Conclusion:
Client-server model is one of the most important designs for distributed computing. The mainframe
technology is the key feature for client-server model [1]. The architectural representation of both client
ser model and mainframe technologies has given us a lot of opportunities for future development.
There are many researches and development work has been conducted to get better and enhanced
solution for the verities of user. It has become the most important issue and challenge for the network
system to check the correct using of client and server model for achieving the success.
