INTRODUCTION The following project is based upon a case study of TESCO which is a British multinational corporation enjoying market leadership within the confines of UK. The case study reflects that the management of this organisation has recently announced the opening of new discount stores named “Jack”. The project consists of overview of motivation along with its importanceforstaffwithinnewstores.Also,itconsistsofdiscussionover2effective motivational theories. Motivation Motivation is a driving force that enables individuals to carry out a particular task to ensure attainment of goal. It is considered as an important factor for every company that operates within the economy for attainment of organisational goals as well as objectives. Importance of Motivation It leads to increment in productivity levels of employees. In this regard, it is seen that the individuals who are motivated tend to put in excessive efforts for the accomplishment of corporate goals within due course of time. Motivated staff possess extensive dedication and commitment towards the organisation and exhibit keen interest in carrying out business practices in an effective manner. Thus, it can be acknowledged that motivation plays a key role in encouraging the employees to work as per the organisational requirements. Theories of Motivation The management of TESCO has proposed to come up with Jack discount stores at market place. Such strategic course of action is being undertaken in order to establish a strong position against the biggest rivals of the respective retailer, namely, LIDL and ALDI. The new stores would adopt competitive pricing model and have culture as well as values similar to the other outlets of TESCO. The management wants to make sure that the staff in these stores stay motivated at all times and for this purpose, it centres its due focus upon the use and application of motivational theories. In this regard, the management of respective retail corporation has decided to implement Herzberg and Maslow's Motivation theory.
Maslow's Need Hierarchy Theory This is a widely used motivational theory which consists of needs of individuals in the form of apyramid where the requirement is to fulfil the lower needs first. This theory is being used to make sure that the needs of staff in Jack stores are effectively met so that they work efficiently for the attainment of corporate goals. Physiological Needs:This consists of need for food, shelter and clothing.In relation to Jack stores, the needs of employees would be met by rendering salary and other lucrative rewards. Safety and Security Needs:This consists of need for safety and security at workplace. With respect to Jack stores, the management of TESCO would fulfil this level of needs by covering them under life insurance and providing them with medical facilities. Social Needs:This constitutes need for love and belongingness. To motivate the staff of Jack Stores, management of TESCO would arrange get-together and social events at regular intervals. Esteem Needs:This comprises of need for self-respect. TESCO would meet this level of need by awarding efficient employees and recognising them in front of all. Self-Actualisation Needs:This consists of need for availing opportunities to facilitate self development. This need would be met by providing training to employees operating within the confines of Jack stores. Herzberg's Two Factor Theory As per according to Herzberg's Two Factor theory, it has been identified that in every organisation there are some factors that tend towards motivating individuals as to perform their roles and responsibilities with full competence and potential. All these factors are termed as motivational factors. In addition to this, other factors also prevails that cause dissatisfaction to employees. There factors are consider as hygiene factors. Mentioned below both of these are being defined in relation with TESCO:- Hygiene factors:It include motivational needs of individuals that aid organisation to motivate conduct their work effectively. In relation with TESCO, HR manager of entity effectively motivate employees by fulfilling their need in order to improve organisational performance. Responsibility: In this HR manager of TESCO is required to delegate new staff with formative roles and responsibilities as to encourage their working zeal and confidence as to perform their role in well defined manner. Rewards and recognition: In order to retain employees for long period of time and ensure ultimate success of Jack stores HR manager of TESCO is required to offer recognition and rewards to them on regular basis. In addition to this, with the help of monetary and non-monetary incentives organisation can effectively able to motivate their employees in best effective manner while ensuring overall success. CONCLUSION As per the above mentioned report it has been concluded that, motivation play key essential role in motivating employees towards effective accomplishment of entity objectives. In this, HR manager of company hold key essential responsibility as to fulfil needs and demand of employeesastoofferthemsatisfaction.Thisfurtherleadtowardsaccomplishmentof organisational goals and objectives in best effective manner. Further with the help of Maslow and herzberg theory of motivation company can motivate employees by fulfilling their various needs. This ensure high productivity and profitability.
