social issues affected to running business in negative and positive manner. This has discussed by
the importance of intranet and internet in business. LAN and PAN both has network technology
which has used by company to collect information of company. The system development cycle

INTRODUCTION
Information technology is defined as process of managing data as well as information by
using computer system and software. It is the process of collecting, storing, processing and
distribution of information in form of text, voice, numerical and picture information. Information
technology is essential requirement to survive and success. The present report is based on “Aviva
insurance” which is the one leading general insurance and pensions provider company. The
report will identify the role of IT in success or failure of organization. The present study is
identified ethical and social issues. it will show difference between networking technologies.
This is discussed the values of internet and intranet for a company. It will also explain the
different stage of SDLC.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Theme 1: Identifying role of IT in success and failure.
Information technology is used to store, manipulate, create and distribute information to
others. The role of IT in Aviva insurance is to design, support organization's infrastructure. It
allows leveraging both information as well as technology in an efficient, productive and secure
manner. According to the Thomas, George and Rose, (2016), role of IT is to keep records and
manage data in proper manner for success of company. Insurance company operates many
branches in the specific areas, but use of information technology to centralize all information on
all these branches. That makes it easier for running and access information and knowledge both
by the insurance company employees and its customers.
On the other side Crisp, Taggart and Nora, (2015), stated that, lack of technical
knowledge is the reason of failure and this lead to commitment of more cybercrime in market.
Most of the time, new workers are not aware with central software and computer systems which
is used by company. Through that important information have a chance of getting leaked which
is not good for company and its customers. This can be a reason for company’s failure, because
due to this customer and insurance company face various problems which are created by hackers.
Theme 2: Issues pertain ethical and social for running business.
More complex issues are accommodating diversity, compliance, governance consistent
and decision-making. The nature of business is linked with trust between the insurer or insured.
Wood and Logsdon, (2017), said when the businesses behaves ethically other business associated

with it, are convinced to behave ethically as well. It is responsibility of company for their
customers, employees and suppliers of a company that they are dealt with care. The main issue
which is face by company which is premium collection. These issues create by failure to identify
needs of customer. This recommend products and services that meet their needs.
Wood and Logsdon, (2017) cited by Yawar and Seuring, (2017), said the poor
management is the issue for running business in market place. The number of professional and
departments managing by the insurance company both the top management and lower level
management. Poor management creates the various problems for business like premium
collection and problem solving. Poor connection between management structure is not provided
proper information of premium and customers services. This is also the ethical issues which will
be faced by company manager for running business.
Theme 3: Difference between of networking technologies
A network connected with different computers. This linked for the effective purpose in
order to communicating or sharing resources. This connection can either be wired or wireless by
using cable, satellites, telephone lines and other. According to the Kumar, (2017), LAN (Local
area network) is the basic and common network type, this connected with the groups of device in
the local area usually within the building. This is the best network types and it uses Wi-Fi to
make wireless by using wireless router. This provides a proper and fast network to people for
addressing their work on time. This connects ample number of system and devices at the same
time.
On the other side Mian, Lamine and Fayolle, (2016), stated that the PAN is a personal
area network within a PAN is generally not higher than 10yards (ca. 9 m) apart. This device is
connected by Bluetooth technology which is the part of PAN. This device is connected with
multiple devices on one time but not more than 5 devices. Its speed is slow when various device
connected same time. File or information is bigger than that is take time to store in phone.
Theme 4: The importance of intranet and internet and internet in business.
An intranet comprises a limited computer network. That is control and reserved for
single and independent organization like the corporation's private network. The internet is the
global system of interconnected computer network that use the internet protocol suite to link
devices worldwide. As per the view of Ronchi, (2018), intranet is helps automate operation and
daily work to enable better decision-making. He stated that, this provides the better internal

communication hubs for staff. Here, manager can store corporate information are memos, staff
important news and any important announcement. This also help to improve customers services
getting accurate information by staff.
In contras Laudon and Traver, (2016), said that, internet helps the business to connect
more customer communication, channel and build a strong network. This help to get new
customers and retain existing customers. This creates best and strong relationship with customer
at market place. Through, these customers are able to check and solve their any queries with
company.
Theme 5: Explaining the stages of system development cycle.
The system life cycle is refers an application development life cycle is a process for
planning, creating and testing an information system. There are five stages of system
development cycle analysis, development or testing, documentation, implementation and
evaluation. According to Wolpert, Tickle and Arias, (2015), Analysis and design are the stages
of SDLC. Both are very important process for further to the next step. Analyse the performance
of the software at various stages and make notes on the further requirement. With the analysis,
organization is able to aware about their software work and uses. Design is the blueprint of the
software that company want before work.
On the other side Hák, Janoušková and Moldan, (2016), said that, development and
implementation are the main stages of system development cycle. The developing software is the
actual stage. Here, company is develop software for work as per requirement. Another side, the
implementation of software in company for work. In this stage, company need to implement
design into source code through coding and it is very longest phases. As per the view of Dennis
Wixom and Roth, (2018), documentation and evaluation is important for the business. After,
implementation of software documentation and evaluation of result is very important.
ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
Identifying role of IT in success and failure.
Information technology plays an important role in success as well as failure. IT is the
effective tools which is provides right people with right information at the right time. IT is not
only the solution to every thing, for IT work, also it is very important to learn how and developed
knowledge and skills. The analysis of role of Information Technology in effective success and

In success: Centralized information system plays an effective and important role in
success of company because through that company manager is able to share all information to
customers and employees of different branches. That is the particular and customized
information system which is generally used by company in order to keep records or share
important records. For example: Aviva insurance company have more than 20 branches in
different areas (Rajaraman, 2018). Manager is responsible for central system technology to
provide all information to every branch by saving time. This helps the company in its growth and
success. Through this company share all information to other branch operators.
In failure: The failures caused are primarily by errors on the part of, either lack of
technology information or the entity that are using such system. This creates the problem for
Aviva insurance because employees do not have knowledge to use this software for sharing
information to other branches. This creates faults like providing incorrect information, entering
inaccurate data or leaking of data (Rees, 2016). Due to h this data gets leaked and misused by
hackers in the presence time of cyber crime. In this case, manager have to provide proper
training to employees. Otherwise, it can become a reason of company failure.
Issues ethical and social to running business.
The nature of insurance business is to trust between company and client. Below are
mentioned some of challenging issues found in insurance sector:
Premium collection is the main issue which is face by Aviva insurance in running their
business at marketplace. It has been reported to insurance brokers are responsible for collection
of premium funds from insured and not remitting to insurance companies. Manager of Aviva
insurance is able to handle this ethical issues in company by creating proper trust between client
and company as well with its employees (Bawden and Robinson, 2015). Company have
maintained a good relationship between employer and employee and their insurers. This
effectively helps to collect premium form customers because they do not hide any information
from client which are important for customer about their insurance policy.
Poor management in company is another challenge which is faced company in running
business in proper manner. This creates problem for manager like premium collection and
miscommunication between people. This has done a great harm to Aviva insurance company
because of with employees not get the proper detail and information of insurance number, policy

system, policy ID of customer. This is the issues which is faced by Aviva at the time of running
business ethically.
Difference between of networking technologies.
Used every thing from accessing internet or printing a document in order to downloading
an files from Email, in this network is the backbone of the Aviva insurance company. Manager
of Aviva insurance is use the local area network through connecting Wi-Fi in same building
(Different types of network, 2018). This is the effective and valuable for company in order to
reach out the information which is required company at the time insurance policy.
The main advantage of computer network is flies are stored on a central node or this is
solved any problem very fast. With the help of this data can easily be transferred over network
computers. This is effective and valuable for company and its growth. On the other side, the
disadvantage is the expenses of executing the system including cabling and equipment can be
expensive.
Explaining the importance of internet and intranet.
Intranet is more beneficial for Aviva insurance company in order to collect proper
information within the company. The advantage of intranet for Aviva is delivering information
and business news as directories and document publish. Integrating intranet content with email
services through that information should be distributed in proper manner and effectively. The
disadvantage is intranet is information security risk, this technology is allergic to being hacked or
damaged. On the other side with, intranet is providing the digitization at workplace, there is
decrease in face to face interactions that the workers have working mainly on computers (Smith
and Wong, 2016).
Internet is also beneficial for Aviva because this provides an all kind of information is
present and even the communication process is possible using the internet. The main advantage
of internet is powerful search engines which is provided specific related to topic. It is the
platform for product SKYPE, which is allowed for holding the video conference with anyone
across the world. On the other side, here is easier to waste time on the internet in case of finding
information, it is the disadvantage of internet that is face by Aviva insurance company.
Explaining stages of SDLC
SDLC plays an important role in Aviva insurance company in software and product
development. This help of development cycle company is able to develop best and effective

product and software for work. There are various advantages of business is to software will
generate fast at the time of software cycle. It is created flexibility and lesser expensive to change
demand and scope (Elmasri and Navathe, 2017). With the help of this company is highly able to
develop best and effective software for Aviva insurance.
The disadvantage of development cycle is, here is required a good planning for work in
proper manner. Here is main difficulty to rectifying a problem in one unit requires correction in
all the units and customers a lot of the time.
CONCLUSION
From the report discussion it had been concluded the IT had been important for business
and its growth. Most of the time, that helped to get success in market place but that had been a
main reason of failure. It had been also concluded that the collection of premium has the main
reason of ethical issue which faced by company. This ethical issue created by lack of trust
between client and customer. Report had been discussed by the different networking
technologies like LAN and PAN which had been used by company for reaching their
information. Intranet and internet had been very important for business in order to collect proper
information of customer requirement. Analysis, design, development, implementation and
evaluation had been important and bes stage of SDC. That had been helped to develop effective
software for company.
