INTRODUCTION
Information technology plays a vital role in the current competitive world. This will help
in increasing productivity and save more money that execute cost, reaching with desired people
wants that can lead towards business growth and development (Beynon-Davies, 2016). The
project is going to focus on ALDI which is a large supermarket chain with over 10,000 stores in
around 20 nations. In this assignment, discussion about the role of information technology in the
success and failure of an enterprise has been done. Along with this, understand the ethical and
social issues which might face by company due to the usage of ICT in order to run an
organization in smooth manner. Furthermore, various types of networking applications is also
going to outlined in this project.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Role of Information Technology (IT) in the success of ALDI
According to the view of Bloom, Sadun and Van Reenen, (2014); Information technology
is useful for businesses as it helps in storing, receiving, manipulating and transmitting required
data and information in proper manner. The role of information technology is depending upon
various factors such as systematic procedure of change, alterations in systems and management
support. It can be analysed that these organisation does spend any amount in the technologies
and also choose correct direction for conducting innovation. This will assist in increasing its
market share, financial data and overall competitiveness. In addition to this, information
technology plays essential role in business in providing opportunity for analysing data and plan
suitable organisation activities. Information technology provide complex tools which can be used
for resolving major issues and plan the scalability in the business. In current time period, it can
be analysed that IT is effective technique which can help in promoting products or services in the
international market. There are various organisation which are using information technology for

better communication with their workers, customers, suppliers and business partners. Different
ways that help in describing role of information technology in the success of ALDI are explained
as follows:

Effective way of communication – This factor directly influence the communication
process of an organization in most suitable manner. Along with this, it will assist in eliminating
major mistakes and errors at the time of interacting with an individual in all over the world.
ALDI need to update their systems and technology on daily basis because this will help in
developing business growth at global level by gaining attention of more customers.
Marketing and business growth – In current time period, businesses can gain success
by developing appropriate marketing strategies through which they can easily attract large
number of customers towards company products and services (Ricci, Rokach and Shapira, 2015).
In ALDI, the marketing covers sales, public relation, advertisement, promotion which directly
effect on business growth and development. With the assistance of information technology, they
are interacting with their buyers regarding promotion of products or services and satisfy their
needs in proper manner.
Decision making – The firm require to develop appropriate decision regarding speed and
accuracy of system. It is necessary for every organisation is to go through a comprehensive
market residences process which assist company administration in making appropriate decision.
ALDI using online techniques and methods that are not providing real time feedback to the
people but it is making sure about accuracy of information that reduces the risk of human error
or mistake.
Proper management of project – Information technology assist firm in managing and
controlling all data or information so this will directly effect on their business operations in
proper manner. In this, proper project administration provides appropriate maintenance of
budgets, managing inventories of different goods and services of the ALDI. They are using
information technology which assist them in storing and keeping records of all their stocks
effectively (Xiang, Magnini and Fesenmaier, 2015).
Development in sales – ALDI require to maintain and manage their selling operations
and functions in proper manner. If they are update their information technology so they can
easily analyse desired buyers who wish to buy products from the company. Sometime it will help
in reducing major issues and barriers while storing stocks within an organisation.
Ethical and social issues that pertain to running businesses
In ALDI organisation, there are several ethical and social issues arise in the business that
are described as follows:

Security – As per the view of Silverstone, (2017) it is one of the main issue that occurs
within an organisation due to poor safety and security systems. The data and information can be
easily hack by attackers and they use IP for hacking the computer information for gathering all
business related data for wrong intention. In e-commerce method, the hackers can easily
interrupt the system at the time when one person transfer its money and whole amount will be
transfer to their desired accounts which effect on bank security technique. ALDI require to
concentrate on their security issues which occurs due to damage of business management system
when this will hack by some person for the purpose of wrongful activity.
Software priacy – It is that term which can be used for discussing about the act of illegal
copying, distribution and using of software without any legal right. It is very risky for ALDI
because hackers can easily hack their software system for getting required data and information
by doing wrong actions. They steal legally secured software techniques and devices that will
create major impact on company functions and operations.
Social issues:
Using networking in advantages - It is one of the effective social issue for the firm
because it will play an essential role while smoothly running of business operations in proper
manner. If company require to gain success so they require to reduces the harmful impact on the
business (Gattorna, 2017). When poor networking system occurs in the ALDI so it will create
bad effect on maintaining their potential clients records and details. Networking assist company
in developing strong connection among buyers and customers in all over the world. If they are
able to maintain and manage these issues which can directly effect on customer daily transaction
and poor browsing facilities frustrate their buyers.
Job displacement – It can be defined as involuntary job losses due to this various
economic factors turns into downward and this will develop efforts for improving data across the
nations. In ALDI, losses of job will create huge impact on business growth because their
employees perform work to increasing income and profitability.

According to the Piotrowicz and Cuthbertson, (2014) networking and computer system
management are liable for regular business operation and function of the firm. They install,
support and manage company system which includes personal area networks (PAN), wireless

voltage device. Such networks are share information and resources in restricted areas.
LAN is managed and controlled by an organisation. By using routers, LAN can easily
connect with wide area network for rapid and accurate transfer of data.
 Wide area networks (WAN) – It will allow computers and low voltage devices for
easily connect with each other in which one huge network help in making communication
in an organisation. Internet is the appropriate instance of WAN network, that assist in

connecting all computers across the whole world. It is regulated and maintained by
multiple management or public.
 Wireless local area networks (WLAN) – It can be similar as device of LAN, such type
of network does not require that technology which rely on physical cables to connect
different systems (Eason, 2014).
 Metropolitan area network (MAN) – It is different from LAN network because it is the
group of computers and it is connected together in same building and MAN is huge
network that basically spans in the different buildings in the same city.
ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION
It can be analysed that there are potential benefits and drawbacks for ALDI at the time of
investing information technology for acquiring higher growth. The benefit of information
technology is that it is one of the effective tool that assist ALDI in storing and recording all
desired data and facts in better manner (Taylor, Fritsch and Liederbach, 2014). This will help in
interacting with their potential buyers in all over the world and provide availability of business in
performing appropriate function or activity.
On the other hand, the major disadvantage of IT is that sometime organisation struggle
for afford and expensive core method due to this they can lose their customers. Since ALDI store
their data and information on remote cloud server that can be access obtain with username and
password so risk occurs for loss of data by hackers.
FINDINGS
It can be concluded that information technology is a set of method which assist in
providing right person along with accurate information at right time. The success of business
depends on company decision making strategy if firm are develop appropriate decision so they
will acquire desired income or revenue in better way. Along with this, it can be analysed that
there are different ethical and social issues that assist in recognising business barriers and reason
for lose their buyers. When such issues are eliminating so ALDI can easily prevent their data and
information from wrong person. The company is developing good place in the huge market area
among various rivals. In addition to this, there are several types of networking technologies
which allow users to access the remote for maintaining business operation and functions
effectively. It can be examined that company does not invest capital in technology and choose

accurate path of innovation which increasing its market share, managing financial statement and
whole competitiveness.
CONCLUSION
From the above mentioned report, it can be concluded that information technology assist
in managing and maintaining company records in better manner. The role of IT help in analysing
success level of an organisation where they can acquire high income. Along with this,
information technology used for storing, receiving, manipulating and transmitting accurate data
or information in regard of business concern. For identify ethical and social issues, company can
examine its security system status which help in smoothly running of business operations.
