1INTRODUCTION TO MANAGEMENT
Trait Theory
1. The trait theory of leadership is mainly based on the attributes of several leaders who
have achieved success and who have not.
Honesty and integrity, cognitive ability and self-confidence are the three important traits
which I feel possess. High integrity has helped me to generate trust in the ones around me.
Cognitive ability in leadership shows the competence to stimulate, challenge and stimulate
others to continually follow distinctive problems and successfully devise innovative
resolutions. The trait of self-confidence facilitate effective leaders develop feeling of
reassurance that efforts to influence are suitable and accurate (Nawaz & Khan, 2016). Thus,
this trait necessitates constructive self-image. An example of self-confidence is I enjoy the
process of my efforts in every aspect of my life. My passion does not make me fear of the
results of my efforts.
I try to ask my professor to explain honesty policies particularly in his class for thorough
clarification.
In any college debates I try to dig down in the issue and identify the real cause by
understanding if there is a need of immediate or long term resolution.
2. Teamwork is the characteristic to work collaboratively with others. This skill will help in
ensuring that team morale remain high which will help leaders to gain effectiveness (Hoch et
al., 2018).
3. The aforementioned attributes are fundamental for becoming not only a competent but an
effective leader. Since, I possess all these skills and they positively influence my actions I
believe I can successfully develop as an effective leader.

Situational, Transformational, and Servant Leadership
1. The situational theory of leadership proposes that no particular leadership style can
produce complete effectiveness. Situational theory claims that most operational leaders show
great ability to adapt their approach to any scenario and consider cues related to factors which
might add in bringing the best resolution (Meier, 2016).
As per Ken Blanchard’s model for succeeding illustrations leaders will show propensity of
employing style of leadership to newly recruited staffs as they are still new in understanding
their roles. Nonetheless, same leader may assign the task to their most experienced and highly
enthused team associate.
Transformational leadership theory underlines the importance of leading in a varied way
which is often essential for any thriving organization. With transformational leadership
philosophy, leaders obtain insight into the fact asserting that change and novel understanding
will in due course produce additional value. However, Mathew and Gupta (2015) have
argued that tools to assess transformational leadership and its outcomes on organizational
performance fail to attain the standards as per validity.
According to philosophy of servant leadership, leaders must act as a servant resulting from
a particular desire with an aim of serving efficiently to others and not to attain further
supremacy.
2. To my understanding, transformational leadership is the most effective as it exhibits
utmost charisma and power with high standards of excellence. Leaders using transformational
leadership strategies mainly set examples, show will and determination and take utmost
suitable risks which exhibit assurance to a cause and create collective purpose. These skills
have led transformational leaders to have more satisfied followers than any other forms of
leadership. In my opinion, transformational leaders not only establish incredible organization

which establishes each and every year, but stimulates the followers to constantly innovate and
attain their full potential (Meirovich & Gu, 2015).
3. My former boss during my internship period had distinct vision on ways in which she
envisioned to expand her company. She clearly illustrated tasks and objectives to attain final
aim. In such a process, her leadership and liberation facilitated me to levels of personal as
well as professional development which I hardly imagined of achieving so quickly. She
provided me to take lead on projects which I clearly aligned with and ways to cooperate with
others in order to obtain results essential to advance the idea.
I believe this leadership style is most relevant for my leadership objectives as
transformational leaders primarily increase understanding and knowledge of followers
regarding what is correct, moral and important.
Identify a Leader – Power
Mary Kay owner of Mary Kay cosmetics has used coercive power by not including the ones
who did not place an order from taking personal or vocational leaves. The burden to ordering
Mary Kay cosmetics is seen as a form of leadership coercive power, which created negative
impression in the workplace (Lynch, 2016).
In my view, Mary Kay penalized the “non-order” staffs and offered special treatment to the
“ordering” ones. The position power which she had had been employed to force to effect
change.
Amazon CEO, Jeff Bezos used to bring an empty chair in meetings indicating participants
regarding crucial people who did not have seat at the table which are the customers.
However, he soon replaced the vacant position with Amazon staffs with job title ‘Customer
Experience Bar Raisers.’

Such expert power is suggested during restricted decision making procedures. CEO Bezos
used this technique as the situation needed rapid decisions and since there were many
inexperienced staffs.
Leadership Scenarios
1. Participating style must be applied at this scenario. This will help inexperienced member
of the group to facilitate the take more active role and come up with ideas and make effective
decisions. The employee will be at Medium Maturity (M3) level (Yasir & Mohamad, 2016).
2. Achievement-oriented leadership style is most effective for this scenario. To encourage
depressed employees, the leader through this style can involve them in decision-making
process and show personal concern for their welfare and needs.
3. Achievement-oriented leadership style will be most suitable for this scenario. Here,
leader will give challenging goals to her and will stimulate her in attaining their peak
performance similar to goal-setting theory (Gandolfi & Stone, 2017).
4. Participating style will allow the retired in place employee share his ideas and get
involved in decision making. It is appropriate as it will help him to reach S4 level by
reengagement in a practice bigger than him by taking new joiners under him and train them.
He will be at medium maturity level.
5. Delegating style is appropriate for this style. Such approach in this scenario will focus on
hands-off approach. Since their motivation is high, group members will make most of the
judgements and accountability (Hiatt, 2015). They will be positioned at High Maturity (M4)
level .

Personal Leadership/ Management Profile
1. As a future leader, I should possess emotional intelligence traits to efficiently perceive,
comprehend and manage emotions of my subordinates.
By using trait theories, I will be able to exhibit honesty, emotional ability, robust
enthusiasm and strong determination. According to Farhan (2018) trait theory sheds light on
difference between leaders and followers. Trait theory will provide constructive information
regarding leadership which shows high complexities.
As a future leader, I believe core values of authenticity, truthfulness, curiosity and
most importantly accountability will help me to reach my objective and help me to align with
my subordinates in critical decision making processes.
Leadership assignment has offered me good overview of the way I can consider
leadership and its transformation from focus on heroic leaders to more progressive ideas
regarding leveraging the context in which leadership primarily occurs and its distribution in
the organization and personal context.
These new ideas will certainly lead to professional practice. These learning have
enabled me to understand that support is most critical while working with diverse range of
managers or making the alteration from managing individuals to managing diverse groups
(Meirovich & Gu, 2015). Meanwhile, through transformational leadership styles, my future
professional path will be resilient as it will help me to acknowledge mistakes of my
subordinates and set up an environment in which errors are not penalized when taken the
accountability and rather focus on teachable moments.
2. By delving into insights gathered from leadership assignment, I have gained the
understanding that leaders’ learning tend to include abilities and perspectives. Additionally,
reflective learning which underlines learning, acting methods and approaches and most

importantly sharing leadership and aligning to external settings will nurture the aim of leaders
to understand ways in which organization will perform. To my understanding, in order to
develop as an effective leader as well as sustain the leadership position, it is important for
leaders to treat others in the way in which they will acknowledge. As a result, leaders must
circumvent particular words and expressions which might create hindrance in the way of his
or her leadership. The idea of positivity and resilience will always help leaders to progress
and pursue the factors and efficiently mitigate any types of negativity and accomplish utmost
loyalty (Hoch et al., 2018). Leadership theories tend to delve into managers’ ability to explain
the role and communicate feedback to others in the team and consequently reduce hindrances
which might arise while promoting success of the organization. Furthermore, while using
these theories leaders should be encouraged in assessing own behavioural patterns for
determining if they resist any novel concepts and fail to develop the competencies of team
members.
Furthermore, effective leaders must surpass the position level for accomplishing
relationship as well as evolution to agreement level which is known as the initial step toward
effective leadership (Ghasabeh, Soosay & Reaiche, 2015). In this level leader involves others
in decision making as well as exhibits considerate approach thereby attaining loyalty as well
as power. It is important to note that since individuals are understood as the most appreciated
possessions, leaders must gain the competence of nurturing them by dedicating considerable
time, dynamism, change, and knowledgeable capability into developing others as leaders.
Hence, contemporary leaders must develop positive behavioural patterns and distinctive
aspects to inspire team members.
