INTRODUCTION
People management refers to the subset of human resource management which mainly
deals with different types of financial, strategic and policy issues. People are considered as one
of the most valuable part for each and every firm as they manage entire work of company and
perform their task in a perfect manner. Along with this, people plays significant role within the
every department of firm through developing best suitable alternatives for firm in order to
achieve successful growth of their business. Present report is based on National Health Service
which was founded in 1948 and headquartered in England, UK. This is generally works for
providing best healthcare services to people and other residents of UK. Moreover, discussion
will be based on leadership & management along with training and development of firm.
Furthermore, talent management of company will get discussed (Banfield, Kay and Royles,
2018).
Human resource plays significant role within the any kind of business and firm. In
relation with NHS, HRM carried out different types of organizational functions and develop best
ways to achieve targeted goals towards giving best health care services to their customers. Along
with this, HRM ensures selection, recruitment, motivation and training of employees within the
workplace. In order to run business of National health services, human resource management
hiring skilled and knowledgeable employees through conducting better recruiting activities at
work place. Therefore, recruitment plays crucial role as it is one of the best way to select or
identify candidate’s value for firm. Thus, respected firm mainly follows Equality act for their
employees as well as workforce in order to get more applicants in their firm. With the help of
this they can more focus on their people talent and skills and give them particular job role within
the workplace (Armstrong and Taylor, 2020).
MAIN BODY
Human resource management refers to the activity of administrating, organizing,
controlling and managing entire working process of business as well as employees of firm. In
regards with NHS it has been found that there are so many functions conducted by HRM
department such as appraisal, staff development and training, implementing and underpinning
the welfare and employee legislation or more. By executing on these sorts of functions HR

department of NHS is able to select and recruit highly skilled employees and run this health care
firm successfully. On the behalf of this NHS would be able to manage its employees in a perfect
way or gain competitive advantages effectively. Therefore, human resource management plays
crucial role as it is the representative of developing best suitable plans for firm so that they run
business successfully and manage everything in regards with people in management (Ashdown,
2018).
1. Leadership and Management
It is the activity or directing and managing people in order to fulfill objectives and goals
within the specific time frame. Leadership is the process of motivating employees or people to
act among achievement of common goals and objectives. Along with it direct workers with the
specific stratify to meet entire needs of firm while management is all about developing and
managing overall activities or functions of firm in a perfect manner. With the help of adoption
several styles of leadership like democratic, participative etc., management of NHS is able to
manage, motivate and direct its team members or employees and achieve their targeted services
goals on time.
Management and Leadership theories -
There are different types of management and leadership theories like contingency, trait,
systematic, behavioral theories and so many can be easily implements on the administration of
NHS. Some of the important theories are mentioned below:
Contingency theory of management: This theory as well as leadership style can be easily
applied on firm as it depends on the leaders that show an individual is task oriented or
relationship oriented in environment. In regards with NHS, this theory is applicable when the
business needs to enhance efficiency of workforce and management needs to formulate better
working environment at workplace. With the help of this they can easily maintain strong
relations with their employees and able to achieve desired goals and objective appropriately
(Hislop, Bosua and Helms, 2018).
Situational leadership theory: This theory was given by Paul Hersey Blanchard for
working management and firm’s behaviour. This theory mainly used by the leaders in order to
adopt leadership style according to any situation and extent development of their team members.
