INTRODUCTION
Career planning and evaluating employability opportunities is a key aspect for the growth
of any individual and it is evident that regular reflection on the learning helps in critically
analysing oneself (Markham, Gentile and Graham, 2017). This report will involve a self
assessment where the skills that are currently possessed by an individual are compared in regards
to the skills that are actually required for the intended or chosen career path.
MAIN BODY
There are multiple activities in which I engaged for the development of recruitment and
selection skills in myself and there is a variety of learning that I was able to develop through
these activities.
First of all the use of social media has helped me a lot in developing wider networks and
keeping myself updated about the current trends regarding the skills that are sought amongst the
professionals by the companies which are hiring. Additionally, by using both social media
platforms and by using platforms like LinkedIn, I was able to represent a very strong point of
view before the public and potential recruiters who could understand the kind of ethics and
culture values that I purport (Kayumovich and Kamalovna, 2019). This helps me in self-
promotion where I was able to network with others more comprehensively and intricately and
chances of obtaining a better job can also be increased for me. LinkedIn can help me immensely
in searching and attracting better job opportunities that will help me in building up the career
opportunities which I want to engage in. It is therefore evident that the use of social media and
also LinkedIn contacts properly and prudently can help me in developing excellent networks in
the field so that most feasible and appropriate job opportunities can be obtained for me.
Additionally, I also engaged in the activity of completing skills audit questionnaire and
this activity was the key pointer for me in identifying the areas where I critically lack and should
be developed so that I can develop myself as a better professional. The skill audit questionnaire
helped me in identifying that my time management skills and critical thinking skills are
extremely weak and underdeveloped (Alkotdriyah, 2015). In contribution to this, I also identified
that even though I perceived my communication and analytical skills to be extremely well
developed yet it was identified that there exists a significant gap between the development of
these skills which I perceive to be and the actual development of control I have over these
selected skills. The undertaking of the skills audit questionnaire directly helped me in identifying

that how my perception towards my skills and their actual presence are different. It has also
assisted me in understanding that what are the different skills in which I need to develop myself
and increase my proficiency (Montgomery and et.al., 2017). I can successfully choose those skill
development courses etc. which can actually help me in meeting the areas where I am still
lacking such as time management skills, critically decision making skills, analytical skills etc.
When in engaged in an interview process with my employer, I was able to clearly identify
the vision that he had towards his company and the kind of workforce and work ethics which
were promoted and respected in his company (Pluchevckaya, Varlacheva and Andrienko, 2017).
It was clear that in the hospitality industry the main requirement is development of
communication and leadership skills and also critical decision making skills where the manager
can handle all the situations whether adverse or favourable by communicating and leading with
the presence of mind. Since, I intend to develop my career as the HR manager in the Hilton
Hotel, getting an interview with the HR Head of the hotel helps me in clearing my perspective
regarding what I am required to do in order to develop better career options.
In order to easily categorise my strengths and weaknesses more precisely, I can conduct a
SWOT Analysis for me which will directly help me in easily identifying my positive and
negative aspects.
Strengths
My strengths are:
I can effectively build up great teams and
increase or facilitate collaboration between
them so that the productivity increases
(Johnson, 2017).
I am extremely well versed with people
management skills where I easily understand
what mindset a person has and how can they be
influenced to work according to my wishes.
Weaknesses
The weaknesses are:
I am extremely weak in the time management
skills and I often tend to procrastinate my
deadline which ultimately affects my work
efficiency.
Another weakness is that I cannot take critical
decisions quickly and this is a very important
part of the entire job role of HR Manager.
Threats
The potential threats that I face are:
Since my leadership skills are not very
adequately developed, it can create a hindrance
Opportunities
The potential opportunities that I see for
myself are:
If I am able to develop leadership qualities in

in my career path.
My ICT skills are also not very well developed
and this is necessary to perform all the tasks
that are expected from a manager regularly.
myself extensively I will have the ability to
grab people’s attention and this will ultimately
lead to the improvement of my professional
personality (Nisar and Whitehead, 2016).
I can also improve my research or analytical
skills as it is very important to regularly
monitor the market trends and preferences and
incorporate that into decision making.
The SWOT Analysis clearly helps me in identifying that the career position that I have
selected i.e. to become HR manager requires a myriad of skills and some of them are extremely
well developed in me. The ability of people management and team building is a very good
quality that I have which will help me immensely in my career option. However, some of the key
skills that I need to develop extensively are critical decision making ability so that I can take
quick and firms decisions beneficial for the company in the situation of crisis. Another key skill
to be developed is time management because meeting deadlines is the primary requirement of
any job role.
CONCLUSION
The analysis helps in concluding that using social media and LinkedIn helps in developing
networks very fast and the skill audit was also used to identify the gaps. Lastly, a SWOT
Analysis was conducted to identify the key traits and then compare them with the required skills.
