Migration Crisis in Mexico: United States Political Problems

This report examines the migration crisis in Mexico and its implications for the United States. It compares two international relation theories, postcolonialism and feminism, to understand the reasons behind this political problem. INTRODUCTION
International relation theories (IR) is the study of international relations from the
theoretical point of view and it is attempts to provide conceptual framework which helps to
determine how the problem is minimized. In the same way, current study helps to understand
International Relation Theory such as (social constructivism, postmodernism, post colonialism,
green perspectives and feminism) which helps to analyse why migration crisis in Mexico become
a United State political problems. Therefore, report will comparing two IR theories i.e. Post
colonialism Theory and Feminism theory in order to justify the migration crisis in Mexico.
MAIN BODY
Describing why the migration crisis in Mexico become United state political problems
As per the view of Benmayor and Skotnes (2017) migration become one of the political
issue in many countries and it is mostly because when people move from one state to another
they bring culture with them and as a result, it also influence in country's culture and that is why,
most of the country restricted migration. But as per the research it has been analysed that around
more than million US citizen are living in Mexico and that is why, it is consider the largest
source of immigrants, while on the other side, illegal migration with illegal trade in drugs is
cause of difference between two government, as a result, it become a major political issue for
US. In 2005, more than lacs of people deported in Mexico and it has strict laws which are
pertaining to both illegal as well as legal migrants but government restrict to take participate in
political affairs. The reason of leaving the country is due to high competition, social services,
negative environment impact, increase crime rates and sudden change in traditional identities.
As Post colonialism as a international relation theory, examines how the societies,
government and people in inhabited regions experience international relations. Thus the theory
is not only help to understand the world but also concern with disparities at global power. Thus,
the theory also helps to understand reason of leaving one country and shift towards another and
analysed that job availability in US is consider the main reason of short- term immigration and
as a result, it increased the number of population and on the other side, this theory also relies on
economic factor which force people of Mexico to leave and shift in US ( Smith, 2017). While on
contrary, it is critically analysed through Feminism theory of International relation which
challenged women's absence from traditional IR theory. The theory also suggest that there is a
need to adopt radical changes which are necessary to respond the problem. Further, the economic

condition of the Mexico is not strong and unemployment is also low that is why, most of the
people leave Mexico and shit in US. Earlier the unemployment rate of the country is good but
when people start migrating and leave Mexico, as a result, it decrease the wages and also affect
the overall country economic condition as well (O’Reilly and Benson, 2015). Feminist theory
also involves looking at how the international politics would affect both men and women in
negative way especially in war and security purpose.
Earlier Feminist theory majorly focus on traditional IR but many scholars who are related
to this theory only focus on how the gender shapes the current global political economy and that
is why, the theory is working in the area of international political economy. While on the other
side, Post colonialism Theory has limited scope especially in state centric modelling and do not
attempt to form an overarching theory. While the theory also helps to provide greater
possibilities in normative work such that identify the issue for specific problem, culture,
methodology and different issues which emerged. Such that the theory also describe the reason
why migration crisis in Mexico become a major political issue for United States such that in
Mexico it is a concerning trend where the Mexican government mainly focus on one of border
rather than humanitarian protection. Like, custody of immigrants raise up to 71 percent in 2014
(Migration crisis, 2018). while on the other side, in 2015, it is deported to more than lacs. In the
same time, Mexican government also reported and only 24 percent of application is approved.
Thus, Post colonialism theory of International relation helps to understand that not focusing on
humanitarian protection, this cause a major political issue in US.
As on contrary, feminist theory helps to determine the human rights which are based
upon the traditional flaws and they are also built on typical male life experience but in the
current scenario, there are many women who did not feel comfortable in their house and on the
other side, there are some political and economic rights which provide no justice. Therefore,
theory introduce gender as an essential tool that helps to make interaction between states at
international framework (Segarra and Prasad, 2019). In the context of migration crisis which is
become a major political issue from 1990 onwards and that is why, US made new policy that
describe freedom to end all and as a result, it has no long lasting impact upon illegal immigrants.
While on the other side, Post colonialism International relation theory demonstrate how
Western views highlights the issue of migration within the country which creates negative
impact upon it (Gonzalez, 2015). Such that in 2007, when there is a recession in US which also

leads t increase unemployment in Mexico and that is why, most of the people also shift towards
US. After recession, the economy of Mexico also degrade and there is a rise in unemployment. It
is so because actual performance of unemployment level is depend upon how sluggishly the
economy is perform due to of less hiring jobs. Thus, it is clearly stated that impact of higher
unemployment which leads to migration is not clear because US economic growth is also
appears to dominate the supply- push efforts of Mexican unemployment . In addition to this, it is
further analysed that due to having recession, the actual condition of Mexico fall such that as
measure, Mexico's main deficiencies is illiterate, malnutrition, scarcity of physicians, high
income inequality which are consider the reason of migration.
As per the view of Skotnes, (2017) post colonialism theory of International relation
theory reflect that American union law requires government to let refugees to apply for asylum
but the politics of migration demand for some sort of limit and the only way is to resolve that
contradiction in order to prevent people from migration. Thus, the problem is becoming so major
and as a result, president of US state that people must simply stopped to cross border and they
cannot come in US illegally and in the same way, Post Colonialism theory justifies that due to
cultural barriers, it creates negative impact upon country and as a result, there is a need to stop
such migration because it may lead to affect overall culture of US as well (Teichman, 2019).
Thus, colonialism fostered a long process which is a continue domination of West over a world
in which cultural, politics and economic domination is still characterized as a global politics and
that is why, this theory justifies as a global politics for the country.
On the other side, feminist theory of international relation theory states the women's
absence from decision making because when the policy is made, there is no involvement of
women (Carrillo, 2018). Moreover, traditional perspective also ignore gender and not only look
the contribution of women and its impact of global politics. Further theory also states that if
women will outside the domain then their experience and contribution is also not relevant, as a
result, it affect the progress in opposite way. The same occurred in migration crisis in Mexico
and that is why, it became a major political problem of US.
CONCLUSION
By summing up above report it has been concluded that the migration crisis in Mexico is consider a
biggest problem in United States because it affect the overall world economy. The report also concluded
two theories such that Post colonialism International theory which also highlights the issue of migration. In

this theory, it is concluded that global class relations emerge and also maintained in order to address the
problem such that the problem highlights people in Mexico shifts in US though it is a legal migration but
people bring drugs and different culture which affect others as well. On contrary, it is also concluded by
Feminist theory of Intentional relation theory which clearly reflect that for some people, the antipathy is
racial and many people are not adjust with other culture. Therefore, changes in social hierarchies and
demographies change may produce the same effect and as a result, it affect and consider the major political
problem for US.
