Introduction
The following paper attempts to put forth a critical evaluation of the article entitled “Hate
Cannot be Tolerated”. The article was composed by a professor of law in the University of
Pittsburgh, Richard Delgado. The author in this article attempts to shed light on the impact of the
violent and verbal attacks on the students who tend to face the offensive slurs and attacks on the
discriminative basis of their race. The following essay opens with the summarization of the
article in discussion and nears a conclusion with the discussion on the arguments that are
presented within the article.
Argument summary
Delgado in the article entitled “Hate Cannot Be Tolerated” attempts a discussion on the
ways to arrest the verbal attacks that are faced by a certain section of the students of the several
educational institutions on the basis of their racial backgrounds (Goshgarian, 2009). The article
attempts a major discussion on the issues that have been resulting from the bullying activities.
The author states that these violent incidents that are presented by a certain section of the
students tend to leave a huge impact on the mental aspects of the concerned student. The author
further argues on the fact that the students who have been pursuing their academic careers at the
multitude of colleges have been receiving unsigned mails in their lockers that state that the
recipients do not belong to the concerned area. The students, as reported by the author have also
been receiving physical threats on their way to their residence at night on the basis of the racial
discrimination (Goshgarian, 2009). The author majorly discusses the issues that are faced by the
students and the steps that might be undertaken by the concerned authorities of the educational
institutions in order to avoid such situations within the college. The concerned authorities of the
college as well as the other educational institutions should also be taking measures in order to

ensure the safety of the dark-skinned students of the institution. The author states that the
concerned institution should implement the policies that are required to prevent the hate speeches
and the other such incidents that might prove to be hazardous and threatening for the students of
the institution who are discriminated against on the basis of their dark skin color. The author
further states that the hate-speeches have been declared to be unconstitutional by the courts of
the area (Goshgarian, 2009). The other factor that might be presented within the article is the
cowardice that is expressed by the concerned person through the delivery of the threat mails and
the attempted assaults on the concerned students. The author concludes the article with the
discussion on the fact that the concerned authorities of the given educational institutions should
be more active in the promotion of the diversity within the given institution in order to arrest the
various activities that are related to the threatening of the concerned dark-skinned students by
their fair-skinned counterparts (Goshgarian, 2009). The author further state that the concerned
authorities should implement strict measures in order to deal with the issues presented due to the
unsigned threat mails.

The argument that is presented by the author in this article might be referred to be a
sound argument within the given organization. This is due to the fact that the premised within the
given argument tend to be true enough. The argument that is presented within the given article is
considered to be valid enough. The argument that is presented within the given article is valid in
the deductive manner. The author draws on the various factors that are presented within the
given organization in order to deduce a logical and valid argument from the premises (Bassham,
2011). The implementation of the strict measures is extremely necessary in order to deal with the
issues that are presented within the given educational institutions that are dealing with the racial

discrimination as is demonstrated by the concerned dark-skinned students. The author is
observed to have presented the claims in a clear and logical fashion. The composition of the
article reveals the fact that the concerned author has undertaken a great deal of the evidences in
the composition of the premises that are required for the conclusion of the argument (Bassham,
2011). The author of the article has also demonstrated a fairness in dealing with the various
issues that are presented within the given article. The author considers the opinion of the
opposition as well during the construction of the given argument.
Conclusion
In lieu of the above argument, it might be safely stated that the implementation of the
stricter policies within the educational institutions might help in the development of the diversity
among the students of the concerned institution. This in turn would help the students to develop
the inter-cultural communication skills that would prove to be helpful to them in their future
lives as professionals.
