Islamic Art in Modern Society:
Introduction
The Islamic religion involves five main tenets of profession of faith (shahada), the
prayer to Allah (salat), offering alms or charity to the people in need (Zakat), fasting one
month during their month of Ramadan (Sawn) and going on a pilgrimage once in a lifetime
(Hajj) to Kaaba. Every follower of Islam religion is expected to abide by these five pillars or
rules. In accordance with this the Muslims do have six main religious concepts upon which
they have their faith. In addition to the belief in one God, the Muslims do have faith in
prophets and angels.
Body
The Islamic art dates back to the seventh century to the birth of the culture. According
to Bozdogan and Akcan (2013), the art includes the visual representation of the culture of
Islam and had been produced by the people who used to live in the Islamic territories. The
Islamic art also included the creative themes of calligraphy, which used to be considered to
be the prime forms of the Islamic culture. It represents the true soul of the Arabic language
and promoted the uniqueness of the religion to the world (Knysh 2016).
The Islamic art in the modern society is not only limited to the architectures and
monuments but also has reached the other modern spheres of the human life which include
the media and the politics (MacEoin and Al-Shahi 2013). It is not only restricted to the
Islamic origin and the tradition but has influenced positively the social and the cultural
growth of the Islamic world. It is the source of uniqueness, and the art represents the Islamic
cultural unity and the originality. The Islamic tradition and the creative art has not faded
away today, but there hare numerous burgeoning centres that try to bring back the focus in
the Islamic culture and the artistic works. As stated by Gruber and Haugbolle (2013), the
