MAIN BODY
Reflective learning
While studying in the university, I learnt about reflective learning for the first time. I
found out that it is a very important part of the curriculum. In it, there is a requirement to
interpret the required matter in your own words and then do the required analysis effectively
(Loewenstein and Mueller, 2016). This is a very creative skill which I learned while in college
which has helped me a lot in interpreting and analyzing various topics.
Hometown
In University, I learnt about writing an essay. I was told by my lecturer to write an essay
on my home town. Since Bucharest is my hometown I wrote an essay on it. I covered a lot of
information on it using internet and journals. By doing so, I was able to interpret the information
in my own words and write a detailed essay on my hometown.
Research skills
Research skills help a lot in finding more about the subject matter concerned (Research
Skills: Definition and Examples, 2020). I learnt about research skills while in college. As I was
given various assignments to be completed by my lecturer I used these skills to my advantage
and covered various topics. I was also told the importance of referencing in my work and citing
these references properly using the right techniques. Therefore I was able to use my skills in a
right manner to ensure that the assignments are completed well in time.

Mind Mapping
Mind Mapping can be done in order to visualize the required information. In college, I
learnt about its techniques which can be used. I also learnt how to use it so that I can create
different diagrams about the topics which were given to me by my lecturer. It is an interesting
skill which requires high-level of creativity for usage. Depth about the topic can be easily gained
by properly using this technique.
Referencing and avoiding plagiarism
Plagiarism means similarities which are found out with someone else’s work. While
doing academic writing at the university level, I learnt about it. My lecturer told me to reduce
plagiarism so that I don’t face academic misconduct. For avoiding it, the right references are
required to be used. With accurate in-text citations, it can be made sure that the plagiarism is
avoided in the work.
Sentence construction
In college, while doing assignments my lecturer told me the importance of sentence
construction. It is important because it helps a lot in getting good marks. Proper arrangement of
sentences should be practiced so that the right meaning can be conveyed effectively to the reader
(Muñoz-Pascual and Galende, 2017). It is an important skill which our teacher told us about. By
using it, one can convey whatever he wants to say.
Capital Letters
In my opinion, good grammar is essential for getting higher marks. Our lecturer told us
the importance of using the right techniques of grammar in academic writing. One of them is
using capital letters at appropriate places. They have to be used at the beginning of each sentence

using capital letters at appropriate places. They have to be used at the beginning of each sentence
and also for Names, Cities, States and Countries. By using the grammatical techniques in the
right manner we can make sure to get good marks in our assignments at the university level.
Reading
I was also told about the importance of reading skills in the university. These skills are
quite essential in my opinion because by properly reading what is required to be produced one
can do good work (Nowacki and Bachnik, 2016). Thus, it becomes important for an individual to
read the matter first and get a deep understanding on it. Thereafter, analysis and interpretation
can be performed in own words for getting good marks in projects. Following the advice of my
lecturer I have worked a lot on improving these skills.
Presentation
Our course at the university not just required us to create projects but also to present them
in front of the other students. I learnt that it is an entirely different thing to present a project in
front of others. This requires the right body posture, confidence and correct attitude. While
initially I felt a little nervous while presenting the assignment but thereafter I gained the
confidence and now I am successfully able to present the projects.
Critical thinking
In many projects at the university, I noticed that a lot of critical thinking is required. It is
not just important to just collect the data from different sources and interpret them in your own
words but it is equally necessary to put your own views through the application of critical
thinking techniques. By doing so, we can make sure that we are able to put the right techniques
into usage and therefore analyze the matter effectively.

Academic keywords
In University, our lecturer told us about the importance of using the academic keywords
appropriately. I think that by using the right academic keywords appropriately in the assignments
one can get good marks. Also, it allows more efficiency and effectiveness in doing the work. The
phrases have to be used in the right manner in academic writing which will allow developing
proper answer to the questions which are asked. I have developed this ability to use these
keywords at the right places.
Tenses
The knowledge of tenses is quite important because it is necessary to use the right
English Grammar (Shahzad and et.al., 2016). Our English Teacher at the university told us about
its importance and therefore I have been able to work on this aspect to get good marks in my
assignments without any problems and issues.
CONCLUSION
The conclusion from this portfolio is that knowledge and creativity has to be gained for
success at the university level. There are many aspects about academics which as student is able
to learn while being a part of the university.
