Introduction
I have recently made an assignment on leadership skills where I have reflected upon
what according to me leadership is. This essay is going to deal with what different leadership
skills that I already possess. I have previously mentioned them in the assignment 1. The essay
is primarily going to focus on what different leadership qualities I have then it goes on
explaining how these skills can be helpful in order to make me an efficient nurse. These skills
are explained thoroughly through the course of the essay and how they can be implanted
upon me. I have also tried to show the detailed analysis of very skill that I have and from
what aspect they are satisfying the need of meeting my target as a skilled nurse. The essay is
segregated into different segments. The first part describes what are the basic leadership skills
I have. The second part deals with the analysis that why these leadership skills are helpful in
my profession and the third stage shows how with the implementation of these skills and
brushing them up I can bring about some changes into my attitude. The problems that I have
are already addressed and therefore with the help of these skills the probable solution is also
suggested.
The essay is to reflect on how I have acquired three different leadership skills like
self-management, self-awareness and emotional intelligence which I have learnt through the
course of my life where I have taught myself to balance my personal and professional life.
The motive of the essay is to find out how these leadership capabilities are acting as my
investment of shining brighter in the field of nursing. Leadership is the quality that is
vigorously needed in my profession hence working on my existing leadership skills I have
prepared how I can move forward with it in future.

As I have previously pointed out that my strengths are self-management and self-
awareness whereas my weakness is lack of emotional intelligence at the professional sphere.
I, being a mother of three kids maintain my personal life with emotional intelligence while I
lack that emotional indulgence at my workplace. Here the problem is I need to be more
emotionally involved because my profession demands a compassionate yet professional
attitude towards the patients. I am good at my work and do not really let my emotions surface
but that also troubles me in expressing myself clearly. That is why I have this contradictory
attitude within me which on one hand makes me balance my emotional quotient and work in
a more pragmatic manner on the other it makes me more introverted and less expressive. The
problem that I have is I cannot make my emotion very prominent in my face because my
attitude gives a vibe that I am very strong, indifferent and unaffected. This makes me highly
professional but in my profession there is a dire need of affection and politeness which
sometimes I might not be in a state to offer. Emotional intelligence is a quality that I really
need to make stronger because my position in the hospital depends on that. It is also
important to understand that his weakness must be avoided with emergency because
leadership skill needs to be polished in order to develop my overall condition as a
professional nurse.
The stronger leadership skill that I have is self-management. Self-management is the
capacity of managing oneself by controlling the other aspects of life. The best blessing of
self-management is to control different emotion such as anger, fatigue, frustration, sadness or
even happiness. It is helpful in letting the emotions subdued and that inevitably brings
professionalism. Self-management is basically managing oneself which implies that when I
strongly possess it, I have the ability to control my emotions and I can very easily channelize
my thoughts into some other direction to make my mind diverted. This is not just a quality of
controlling oneself and managing different things happening simultaneously in life but also it
