INTRODUCTION
Leadership and management are one of the most important components of businesses
success within specific sector. Leadership means about obtaining people to believe and
understand vision set by the leaders for organizations and to work with them on achieving their
aims, while management is more about managing and making sure daily activities are occurrence
as they should. The current study is based on Premier Inn which falls under categories of leading
hotels in UK hospitality industry. This report will explain varied classical management theories
in context to industry, leaders role, varied leadership styles & specific management leadership
form in firm.
This assignment will contrast & compare leadership and management styles and justify
talent management as contemporary management & leadership model. Furthermore, it will
justify external and internal factors that impact talent management styles, critical analysis on
particular changes in management styles utilizing talent management strategies and also clarify
hard and soft current management & leadership skills. This study will discuss role of talent
management, its importance and leadership skills needed in service sector. Moreover,
comparison between management systems also discussed at the end of this study.

Several CM theories in relation to hospitality industry
There are three different types of classical management theories available in business
world that can be used by any company while operating and managing business activities within
hospitality industry (Stone and Rosopa, 2017).
Scientific management theory by Taylor-
This concept is made up of four important principles that plays vital role within company
when manager follow it in effective manner.
 According to the first principles of above theory, manager do not stuck in set plan or
routine with old methods of completing work, they should be constantly experimented
something new that can increase productivity and make work easier do to.
 Harmony is the second principle of this theory, which stated that management within
sector must create inclusive environment at workplace. It enhances motivation and
performance level of existing staff working under chosen industry.

 Third principles named cooperative, that means all activities in work place done by
varied people can be carried on with a spirit of common cooperative. Manager in
hospitality industry work with their employees to determine standards
 Development of every person to their greatest prosperity and efficiency is the last
principles of this theory, which stated that efficiency of workers should be taken care of
right from their selection, manager must arrange training programme for everyone.
Administrative theory by henry Fayol-
Along with the above classical management theory, Fayol administrative concept is also
quite beneficial in context of hospitality industry (Chahine, 2020). 14 principles of this theory
listed below-
 Division of work-manager by following this principle while managing work hospitality
industry divide each task equally to specific person according to their abilities and skill as
well.
 Accountability and authority- management is right to give command and have power to
get obedience, they should be capable to give orders.
 Discipline- accordant to this principle, management and employees must respect an
follows rules that govern company as it make them able to work effectively.
 Unity of direction- with this principle hospitality companies move their employees
towards a common objective in same direction.
 Unity of command- only one leader or manager should lead a team that prevent people
from misunderstanding.

Along with above two classical management theories, it also relates to hospitality
industry and its management practices. According to this concept bureaucracy is basis for
systematic and appropriate formation of companies operating under chosen sector and it is
designed to assure economic effectiveness and efficiency. It is one of the best models for
hospitality management and its activities in term of bringing businesses power structure into
focus. It constitutes most effective and rational manner in which human action can be managed

and that systematically processes to maintain order and eliminate favouritism by using
appropriate methods.
Role of leader and leadership styles using in firm
Coach-
Leader in hotel play vital role as coach, they have an accountability to develop team to
succeed in their roles and prepare them for future roles by appropriate coaching (Mesdaghinia,
Rawat and Nadavulakere, 2019).
Motivator-
Role of leader in Premier inn according to which they motivate staff by applying different
techniques or methods to perform even better. Leader in workplace by playing role as motivator,
drives applicants towards achieving common aims and business objectives.
Provide clear vision-
Leader cater clear vision to employees which make them able to accomplish their task
and work according to roles. They always set clear vision in front of staff through which
employee work in way to achieve or fulfil it.
Forms of leadership-
In context of Premier Inn hotel, leader use the most common leadership style that is
democratic and coaching style. According to democratic leadership style, leaders take opinions
from employees which makes them feel a part of business (Miloloža, 2018). They share
important information with applicants about anything that affect work accountabilities and
enhance morale. Furthermore, with coaching leadership form leader in hotel seeks to unlock all
workers potential.
Review a particular leadership and management styles in company
Democratic leadership style and visionary management style can be use in Premier Inn
hotel that is quite beneficial for its business growth & success. With democratic leadership style
leader brings more viewpoints from employees which make work effective (Goonetileke and
Samarasinghe, 2019). This form allow leader for more efficient problem solving. Furthermore,
visionary management style also work effectively, it helps manager to communicates specific
purpose and allow them to guide that workers believe in, that convinces applicants to work hard
to execute management vision.

Compare management and leadership styles in firm and their relative demerits & merits
It can be said that demonstrate leadership form is much better than visionary management
style can be use in Premier Inn hotel. Here, the comparison between both forms is based on their
comparative advantages and disadvantages.
It can be said that, democratic is one of the best leadership styles it helps to increase
motivational level of staff and enhance job satisfaction among existing workers. The merits of
this form include encouraging innovation and innovative solutions to hotel. On the other hand,
visionary management style helps employees see aims and stay concentrated on it which makes
them capable to achieve it on timely manner.
Merit and demerit of leadership style-
Democratic form builds team based connections, the best advantages of leadership style
is that it improves relevant knowledge of group (Rao, 2017). But, it can cause disharmony when
it is misapplied by leader in Premier Inn hotel.
Merit & demerit of management style-
It cater clear idea of whole aims that workers is working towards. But it only focusses on
what happening in future it less focused on current needs or situations that is not effective at all.
Evaluating current management and leadership styles at organisation
It can be said that democratic leadership style in hotel gives workers a look at bigger
image. In workplace, it makes work become easier or simpler for everyone because leader
provide common group which make applicants able to move towards same thing which is quite
beneficial for Hotel in term of increasing profit margin even better. Furthermore, by using
visionary management style manager within Premier in hotel can help collect troops and remind
workers of why they are here, what their accountabilities and roles in the future of business is
and how good it can feel one they have attained aim as a group.
Talent management as contemporary leadership and management model
Talent management is defined as methodically managed, strategic procedure of obtaining
right talent onboard and supporting them increase to their optimal competencies keeping
business objectives in mind (Kram and et.al., 2020). It can be considered as contemporary
management and leadership model because it generally categorized into five key areas like
planning, attracting, retaining, developing and transitioning.

All these activities are related to management and leadership activities. For example,
according to management model manager role is to create an effective plan in context of
business as well as employees growth. Management creates strategies and leadership act
accordingly to provide positive outcomes.

marketing tools they can advertise vacancy and hire knowledgeable applicants which in return
help to change overall structure of business and make it in form of hierarchical. Premier inn is
able to gain attention of new consumers as they have strong workforce which is one of its
strength.
Managing diverse talent- it is another external factor that put high pressure on human
resource management and managers. It requires a lot of efforts and consumer time as well that
affect further activities. It influences existing organizational structure in positive manner as it aid
to allow workers perform productively and effectively.
Critical view on changes in management styles using talent management tactics

hotel that can be use by manager in order to obtain many benefits such as they can build strong
workforce. The best strategy is giving employee rewards and recognition that is quite beneficial
for firm. By using this tactic manager can change their management style in effective and
positive manner. Before using it, management did not pay much attention to work of employees,
but after using this strategy they gain many benefits in term of retaining talented people and
increasing their motivational level rather than before.

Hard skills-
Within hospitality industry legal and planning as hard skills needed for management job
role. For example, to manage legal matters of companies a person with legal skills require who is

in sector

industry (Chung and D’Annunzio-Green, 2018). It helps to create a motivated and inspired
workforce who will stay with hotel in long run and always ready to do their best.
Talent development is set of integrated organizational human resource procedures
designed to develop, retain, attract and motivate employees. It will be utilized in employees
retention and developing training in sector. For example, work from home is one of the best
options or talent development strategy, from which manager can retain skilled applicant for
longer period. They will also identify further and current needs of workers which make them
able to develop effective training plan for all applicants.
Evaluation of present and further leadership as well as management skills
Problem solving as leadership skill and planning skills as management skills are
important for hospitality industry talent management. Leadership skill help leader to enhance
performance of workers by solving their issues at workplace. Planning skills is also beneficial

essential assets of companies that is people or workers. That is why Premier inn should make
attempts to effectively manage applicants to aid them develop their abilities and skill in order to
retain them.
Leadership skills are also very necessary in same sector as it help firm to motivate and
inspire their employees as well as help to build their morale.
It can be achieved by using taking part in training and development session where
experience person teach various things that is quite beneficial for a person to become effective
leader.

By providing training and development opportunities manager effectively and systematically

been summarized that talent management play important role in hospitality industry as it help to
retain people for long and permit them to make a good commitment with company in term of
enhancing their productivity.
