1- Things that included in being a successful leader
Leader is a person who help themselves and other people as well in order to do
appropriate things. They help individual in form of providing right directions, building inspiring
and clear vision & creating something new for them (Kouzes and Posner, 2018). There are many
things included in being successful leader, it includes the way of things and decision making
competence. By using range of leadership theories, it could be easy to understand this concept as
each concept allow to gain depth understanding about it and describe elements that contribute in
process of being successful leader.
Big Five personality theory-
It is one of the best trait theories that many leaders could use to become a successful
leader because it contributes at high level in context of leadership development among person
(Wu and et.al., 2020). Gordon Allport is the creator of this theory, who describe five personality
characteristics that person should adopt when he or she wants to become excellent leader in a
company.
Openness-
According to this trait, person need to be imaginative and tend to have a wider range of
interests. They should show his or her curiosity in context of other people and whole world as
well.
Conscientiousness-
Standards characteristics of this element include high degrees of goal directed nature,
thoughtfulness and effective impulse control. All these features a person could adopt which
enable them to become a successful leader.
Extraversion-
It characterized by sociability, talkativeness, excitability, assertiveness etc. which make
person able to become a successful leader which is quite essential to be.
Agreeableness-
An individual with affection, kindness and other prosocial nature could play his or her
role in form of successful leader.
Neuroticism-

Emotional instability affects nature of person which foster them to become a leader.
Situational approach-
This form of leadership is quite beneficial for individual as it enables them to become a
successful leader who could lead a team of skilled and talented workers. This approach helps
individual by addressing supportive and directive dimension of leadership. It emphasizes role of
contextual elements and how person either affect leadership nature directly. It allows leader to
take better decision and actions after analyzing overall situation which is beneficial in several
terms such as directing workers, enhancing their performance and leading a group (Pirrie and
Rafanell, 2020). By understanding overall situation and applicant issues, leader could become a
successful leader as it makes them able to encourage workers and motivate for longer period of
time which is actually very essential in term of increasing productivity and obtaining success for
an organization. It allows person to consider need to flexibility and support creating comfortable
atmosphere for everyone. With situational leadership approach, leader could make employees
enable to work even better and together at same workplace. This style help boosting training
ways and increase awareness of leadership styles. This method is quite beneficial in varied forms
and provide benefits.
Transformational leadership-
It is one of the most common theories of leadership where leaders act with groups to
determine required change, developing clear vision to direct a change through executing
modification and motivating people which is essential to do as it help encouraging individual to
accept change. With this concept, leader could feel high encouragement themselves in regards to
inspire other to create a new things and make some innovation which is beneficial for success
and excellent progress of any brand (Faupel and Süß, 2019). The key four factors of this style
allow a person to become successful leader and gain benefits by keeping at same position. Each
element could help leader to work even better at workplace which bring benefits in varied terms.
With this style, leader can be a successful motivator as it permits them to transform ineffective
team into effective one and make them capable to work excellently and productively, which
every employer need and find among their candidates. With all above elements, individual obtain
more in form of loyal people who want to work with successful leader for longer and contribute
in his or her plans by working in team.

Leadership is an art and competence of building a team, encouraging people, inspiring
them to work hard and systematically and motivation individual to achieve common goals as
well as objectives in effective manner. In a team building, leadership could mean guiding
employee and other people with an effective plan & tactic to meet business needs, management
expectations etc. A person could develop leadership among themselves in effective and ethical
manner, which is actually very essential to develop because it allow leader to lead team and
strengthen abilities of each employee. There is different method, approaches, techniques, tools
and ways are available in corporate world that a leader or person could use as it permits them to
develop leadership style (9 Ways to Develop Your Leadership Skills, 2017). For example,
discipline is the key element that motivate leader to develop above form. Developing this style in
professional as well as personal life is important as it enable to be successful leader who provide
benefits to companies by building talented, experience and knowledgeable groups at workplace
who could contribute in gaining competitive advantages.
Leader could develop his or her leadership creating situational awareness which is
considered as the main component of this trait. The best thing of effective and successful leader
is a person who can consider bigger image and anticipate issues before it occurs at workplace
that could put negative impact on performance and productivity of employees and then
performance of a venture.
Furthermore, leader stay keep learning varied things which enable them to develop their
leadership. The best way to create this component is to always keep learning and understanding
different topics, subjects and especially situation that occur at workplace in suddenly.
Leaders can develop leadership by applying many theories on their practices. The most
important theories are listed below-
Kurt Lewin's Leadership styles: In this type of of leadership theories there are different types
of leaders which are as follows:
Firstly comes the authoritarian leadership in which leaders are autocratic they make
decisions on their own without asking to any one and they think that they have sole
authority within the company (Adler and Laasch, 2020). They provide clear expectations
to their followers that what needs to be done, when it to be done and how should it done.
This type of leadership style is best applied in the situation where there is shortage of

time and fast decision making is required. But at the same time if businesses continuously
follow this type of leadership then it creates dissatisfaction among their followers.
Hence, by applying this leadership style a person can become effective leader and can
develop leadership (Best, 2020). This is particularly because of the reason that when the
person will be able to control the other people then they will be in position to lead the
other people in proper and correct manner.
The another type of leadership style is Participate leadership which is most effective
leadership style used by any organizations. These are the those leaders who encourage
their group members and actively participate in all the activities. Final decision making
always remains in hands of leader but decision taken by leader is always in favor of
team mates. In this type of leadership styles group members are working with full of
satisfaction and they are always motivates towards their work in the organization. Hence,
if a person will make the use of the participative style of leadership then this assist them
in leading the people in effective and efficient manner.
Situational approach Theory: This theory suggest that no single type of leadership is best and
effective. Instead of this it depends on situations which means in what situation you are working
and at that time which strategies are best suited for completion of task. According to this theory,
the most successful leaders are those who adapt their style on the basis of prevailing situation
and by viewing the type of task, his team, level of risk in that task and other environmental
factors. These leaders are more flexible as compared to others and also their group members
would also be very effective.
Transformation Theory: In this type of theory leaders work with their team and point out the
needed changes and help them to adapt those changes. As per this theory both leaders and their
followers raise one another to highest level of motivation and morality. This type of leaders are
generally self motivated and self managed they don't need much directions from others. In this
type of leadership style leaders focus on the transforming others and support each other as they
are working all with one single team (Delanoy and Kasztelnik, 2020). These leaders are more
energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate on their work as compared to others. With help of this
style of leadership a person can develop as a good leader. The reason underlying this fact is that
whenever there will be any change intended in company then transformation leader can
effectively assist in adaption of these changes by employees in effective and proper way.

3. Difference between leadership and management
The management is defined as the process through which company tries to plan, organize
and lead the work in such a manner that the work is being done by others in efficient and
effective manner. For the business to be successful the most essential thing for the company is to
effectively manage the work in proper and effective manner so that the objective of the business
can be achieved (Hallinger and Kovačević, 2021). There are many different types of the
resources within the business and it is the duty of the manager to allocate all the work in such a
manner that the resources are optimally being used and utilized.
On the other side the leadership is being defined as the art of influencing and stimulating
the people in order to follow the instructions of the leader. The leadership assist the company in
providing better direction to the company and employees so that the objective and aim of the
business can be attained in proper and effective manner. The leadership involves the inspiring of
the subordinates so that they can clearly understand the work which they need to perform and as
a result of this the work is being performed in same and effective manner.
Both the concept of leadership and management are difference form one another. The major
reason underlying this fact is that both the concept has different work and reason behind their
execution is also different. The major differences between both of these concept are as follows-
Management Leadership
The management is the art of getting things
done from others in effective and efficient
manner.
On the other side the leadership is being
defined as the practice of giving direction to
the employees so that they can attain the
objective of the business.
The major focus of management is on
managing the work and getting it completed in
successful manner.
In against of this the major focus of leadership
is over the leading of the people so that they
are on right direction of attaining the objectives
of the business.
Another major difference is that the major
outcome of the management is to focus on the
result which is being attained from managing
the work.
On the flip side the major outcome of the
effective leadership within the business is the

strategies and methods and diverse policies for
effectively distributing the work among the

On the contradictory side the major approach
for the leadership to be successful the major
task is the look at the problem and analyses it
and try to devise new and creative solution to
the problems.
There are different function which the
management need to perform like the planning,
organizing, directing, staffing, controlling and
coordinating,
In against of this under leadership there are
different types of style which a leader of the
company can use like autocratic, democratic,
transformation, transactional and other types of
styles of leadership.
The major focus of management of the
company is over bringing of the stability
within the company. This is the major aim of
the business as this assist the company in
managing all the activities of the business and
try to maker it a profitable business.
On the other side the major focus of leadership
is on encouraging the changes within the
business. This is majorly pertaining to the fact
that when the leader will propagate the change
then only the manager will implement the
changes within the business for the betterment
and growth of business.
In the end it can be concluded that management and leadership both are essential for the
company to be successful. Thus, for this it is important for the company to have a balance
between the leadership and the management within the business.
4 Personal learning about leadership from this course.
Leadership is nothing but an individual's quality and ability which helps in influencing
people towards their work and perform better for completion of overall goal of the organization.
Effective leaders have the quality to communicate with all and motivate their team, handle their
problems, delegate responsibilities to them, and more focus on feedback of the employees. The
leaders are always straight forward about their decisions, principles, and morale values (Marques
and Gomes, 2020). Some leaders have charismatic personality, so everyone would follow them

from starting to end. At any point of time if need of leader is arises then leader does not hesitate
to do work. From the leadership theories and this course it was evaluated that a leaders firstly
learn how to change yourself first only after that they learn about the people and identify their
needs and apply this knowledge on helping people. Leaders have to pay more attention on what
others say and by solving their problems leader can gain trust of their group member's. Leaders
provide direction to their team mates and guide them towards achievement of overall goal of the
organization. All the power lies in the hands of leader so the leader can use that power to serve
the people. A leader can evaluate every team mates strengths and weakness and then helps them
flourish by focusing on their strengths and improving their weakness.
From the above leadership styles i have learned many things which can be reflected here
from an example: When i was manger in a reputed firm at that time i was managing a team of
more than 50 employees. There is always some issues arises and i solved them with the help of
good leadership styles. Once there was a huge conflict aroused between two employees in my
organization but i solved their conflicts in very polite manner. Firstly i talk to one employee and
listen that employees problem after that i talk with another one. By analyzing the situation of
both the employees i opted an theory based on situational approach for decision making. This
theory was explained that a effective leader always changes his strategies by seeing the
situation. It means in every situation a leader will react differently and solve the problem by
those strategies which are suitable at that point of time (Rwafa-Madzvamutse and et.al 2020).
Further from another situation where I had to implement a new technology within the
company and there also leadership was very assistive. The major reason for this is that because
of new technology many employees of company were resisting the implementation of the
change. This was particularly because of the reason that when the company will implement
change then this will reduce the efficiency of the employees. In this situation many of the
employees resisted adaption to new technology but with good and effective leadership style I
managed to make the employees agree. This is particularly because of the reason that with help
of good leadership style I explained employees that if they will adapt the technology then this
will improve the efficiency of the employees to a great extent. Hence, with my good and
effective leadership style I was able to convenience the employees and then they agreed to adapt
and work on the new technology in better and effective manner.

Furthermore, with the help of the effective leadership style I was able to coordinate all
the activities of the business in much effective manner. The leadership also assist the people in
influencing the behavior of the employees in both positive and negative manner. So this totally
depends over the style of leadership which is being used by the leader. The style of leadership is
totally dependent on the situation which is currently going. For instance if there need to take
decision frequently then leader will go for autocratic style of leadership. The major reason for
this is that under this style leader does not consult any person or subordinate rather takes quick
decision. In against of this if the situation is not so fast and the decision can be taken with great
research then they might make use of democratic or laissez faire leadership style.
In the end from the above whole assessment it can be stated that leadership is of utmost
importance as this assist the person in influencing other people to do work. Further it was also
evaluated that the leaders can be developed with help of application of different types of the
theories like situational leadership, transformational leadership and many others theories. Further
it was analyzed that the leader and manager are both different and has varied role within the
management of business. Also, it was evaluated that the use of leadership within the business is
of importance as this provides guidance to the employees as how they have to work.
