Introduction
The primary purpose of this task is to discuss and outline information about the issues and
challenges which are being encountered by the public due to flood. The paper outlines the
various types of health problems that were predicted in the case study. It also highlights that how
people can go beyond the first phase to analyze and measure the actual public health problems.
At the end, some recommendations have been discussed in the task that helps in minimizing the
public health issues. The paper gives the answers of the questions on the basis of the case study.
Case study background
On the night of 15th January a freak and terrible event occurred in Oldport. The melted snow
inland had raised the high water levels in the river olden. Due to flood, Oldport had to suffer
relatively higher damage than neighboring areas. Although, there was a warning which helped
the people to overcome the situation but still some changes were needed there. The mines were
flooded and the external assistance was not quite enough for 36 hours because only helicopters
could reach the town due to the flooding. Second day, some assistance were given by the
government. There was an instant surge of assistance for oldport with the innovative agencies
and military to save the life of people. Emergency food was supplied and temporary shelter was
set up in the town. But the emergency relief was also stopped that time. Thus, various challenges
were faced by the people.
Types of public health problems
On the night of 15th January an incident occurred that hampered the life and health of the people
highly. Various people were caught in the flood water and some people were died. Flood is a

natural disaster which was occurred in Old port. It also affected various neighbor areas. Along
with this, it was harmful for life of people, animals, building, transports, economy,
accommodations, hospitals, schools and crops etc. In the given case study many health problems
raised due to the flood like infectious and surgery issues. There were approx 200 people killed
due to this event and many bodies could not recover. In addition, the automobile parts warehouse
distorted. There was very less social disorder and it was also influenced the life of people
adversely.
There are various public health problems raised in the given case study which is discussed
below.
Physical and emotional problems: The people encountered many physical and
emotional problems. Unfortunately spilt from family, meet with an accident, they faced
many losses like property, crops, business, home and family. All things affected the
health and well being of people adversely. The people had to face lot problems and issues
due to flood. The people got depress and mentally disorder. It also affected their thinking
power highly. Some persons fallen under debris and die, some became handicap and
disable (Kongstvedt, 2013).
Serious Facture: It was major issue which affects the health of the people. Due to flood
people got serious facture and suffered from various diseases that could not be emerged
in entire life. Along with that, the people entertained serious complications and many
bones broke and diagnosed from illness and infections. Then the affected part has to be
separated from its limb (Scheirer and Dearing, 2011).
Infectious diseases: Infectious diseases were caused by organism for example: bacteria,
virus and fangs etc. which is spread form one person to another. Infectious diseases are
